  • For the people who dont understand what Stern is doing with his solos...all of you fuck off, I've seen live: Henderson, al dimeola, Mclaughlin, Morse, Vai, Petrucci, Satriani, Robert Fripp(Crimson), Howe (Yes), A. Lifeson (Rush) etc... and Mike Stern is the guy that actually is one of my favorite guitar players i`ve ever seen ...his music and his concerts are amazing...the man enjoy and transmits so much energy and hapiness

  • great groove by rythm section. A superfine, superior first-rate Mike!!

  • yeah- Its a matterof taste- all the guys mentioned are great , great players. LOve metheny..just saw him in NY

  • guitar hero!!!!

  • Awesome, immense

  • the best Mike solo

  • Excellent. Mike always does this. I love when he finally goes nuts and blows everyone out.

  • Oh, and at 0:10, 0:18 and 0:24. All variations on what I think of as "the Mike Stern Lick".

  • I love Stern's music but like him better as a writer than an improviser - he just doesn't have the vocabulary the players listed by stringskippa. I don't think I've heard a single Stern solo that doesn't include variations on the lick at 1:07 (and 1:55, and 2:19). To my ear Metheney and Henderson simply have more tools - they repeat themselves far less often. Holdworth is in a league of his own. More modern masters include Guthrie Govan and Greg Howe.

  • Great guitar & Nice Video!

    Thanks uploading!!!!

  • Why there is a Steve Morse picture in all the mike stern picture? lol

  • this kind of music controls my heart rate.

  • Does anyone here the drummer? Mike is killin but Dennis Chambers makes it all work at the end and he holds the groove. Double bass? Cymbal swells? Never loss the groove.

  • @beverdrae Dennis has a killer right foot; he plays single bass drum, but whit so many notes that seems double bass drum.

  • @eduardoritos Uff, or maybe I'm wrong. Wow.

  • jeez, so much feeling.

  • solo kinda reminds me of pat methiny but of course he plays a lot less with the dynamics

  • is he always on his same telecaster?

  • the photo at 3:35 is Steve Morse....

    Career solo here.....

So is the Jean Pierre solo on We Want Miles, but this one is just a SPLOOGE.....

  • What's the song's name?

  • i think it's called "song for barry"

but mike creats his own version of this song!...

    ...i love this version!

  • Wow this really the essence of Stern, and the groove is SO DRIVING!!

  • Hahaa at 3.18 he plays a line that's in the Chromazone one on Youtube.

I mean fair enough, but still funny.

  • exelent ,

    raf

  • This song changed my life,, great solo and majestuos harmonies in the 2'nd part, great musicians ,,what a concert !!! thanks

  • Wow, really beautiful.

  • Its ur language. im drtunk. Cheers!

  • sorry Mike u r the best in fact. just me. i know ur lines but u shore do all that shit musically

  • what is that ? playin a lot of notes

  • Its the same every time....thats no cool Mike....i use to be a fan of urs...im sorry i have to log out....a lot of notes ahhh

  • Utan skalan är han lost...

  • Ohh va han e tråkig....

  • Allan Holdsworth is THE guitarist - NUFF SAID!

  • Comment removed

  • awesome!! he's kinda cute.

  • i agree..

  • how does this suck???

  • The Greatest Living guitar player PERIOD - there is NOT close 2nd- STERN IS GOD! - He carries all other guitarist in his back pocket

  • He maybe tied with Pat Metheny. Pat has him on composition though.

  • He can't even touch Pat Metheny, Allan Holdsworth, or Scott Henderson..

  • stringskippa, each one of those guys is so different from the next that they aren't even remotely comparable. Your statement is highly questionable on all musical levels.

  • What I'm just trying to point out is that Mike Stern's not the best. There are lots of other guitarists who are just on another level. Mike's good, but he's definitely not the best. It may be just a matter of taste. I'd prefer to listen to Robben Ford or Pat Metheny. Maybe, it's just that I don't understand what Mike's doing.

  • @stringskippa I don't think you understand what Mike is doing. The Brecker brothers did.

  • @KABRIS1 this made me laugh. i was thinking the exact same thing

  • By the way, I'd listen to the Becker brothers all day, especially Michael B.. =)

  • @Jay435 - Don't forget Kurt Cobain too. Remotely incomparable...

  • @stringskippa its matter of taste with players on level of methenyand stern. in my opinion, holdsworth and henderson are NOT on same level as stern and metheny.. sorry just not, but, again.. taste?

  • @augfive - You're entitled to your opinion and so am I. I think Stern's licks would sound better if there was no one accompanying him. It really doesn't make sense to me. I can appreciate Becker, Metheny, Holdsworth. But Stern sounds too random for me. Stern is never on the same level as Metheny. Holdsworth is way ahead of Stern. Taste?

  • @stringskippa -- yeah taste-- they are all great

  • @augfive Hey Augfive. Not much of a Holdsworth fan, but I gotta say Henderson is in some ways beyond Mike. I love Mike Stern, def one of my fave players, but Henderson on a raw conceptual level, combined with his absurd technique, is alone. I know it's a matter of taste in regards to what we each like to hear, but watch Henderson vids objectively, and it becomes apparent; he is doing things, crazy things that would be impossible to duplicate. Up there with Lagrene in terms of mastery, IMHO.

  • I am a famous drummer but lots of users on youtube do not believe me.

  • If ya gotta say, then it is unlikely to be true.

  • Probably a great artist, but I am not really a fan...

  • Dennis Chambers on drums, yall know that, right? lol

  • impressionante! arrepiante!! acho que nunca ouvi solo tão perfeito!

  • fantástico! arrepia só de ouvir

  • Absolutely fabulous! It's from Song for Barry, right?

  • ooohhhh Fuck yeaahhh

ooh my god! This makes me cry shiiit :))))

  • wtf is steve morse doing in there at 3:35? :) anyway, great clip!

  • yeah, stern would have to work out a bit for those muscles:-)

  • Great solo!

  • excelente!

    mike stern un perfecto sonido!

  • Grande el solo, un verdadero maestro...

  • Oops. I ment to say that this is awesome

  • asdasjkldacnasasdasdklajsdkljacaksco

  • What a tight and great band!

I love the rhythm section, Genus and chambers are relly killers!

  • Super!! Saw Mike few weeks ago in 'De boerderij, Zoetermeer, Holland, still amazinnggggg, also with Randy B., Dave Weckl.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Lyzkid

  • heaven.

  • yeah!maybe the greatest moment of the whole concert.

  • Nice, I like the way he throws in some Beckisms too.

  • without a doubt. that is dennis chambers on drums. i know his sound lol SICK stuff

  • usually mike sterns playin gets on my nerve because of the useless rock hardcore bending or shredding he puts in it. which still can be cool mbut he uses them too often i think. but in this tune the essence of his playing find all its meaning and its great.

  • thank you for this great video...he is a monster

  • Mike Stern is just fantastic!!!Thanks for video!

  • great solo my favorite
