Hey Izabelle! Hope things with Sharubi are going good (the jumping side of things ;-) ) if your looking for a bit that is "different" but not "harsh" you should try a dr. bristol, we used one on my sisters pony who was built exactly like Rubi but was sensitive, it also works on bringing their head up! Give it a go maybe? The pelham is quite heavy and has quite a severe action
yeah Sharubi is doing great and I'm finally at the new barn so hopefully i'll start with some jump work, i just have to let her settle in. and i will definatly ask my new trainer about the dr. bristol. it sounds like it would help Sharubi.
well i switched to the kimberwick (i use on the curb ) because she would ignore my half halts and hang. it been working but she still runs a bit and I need something to lift her up. we are going to try the pelham using double reins and see how it works. I think she'll go really well in it.
oh lol. I watched some of ur vids beautiful mustang!!
well I bet thers tons of sites u could go on to learn about the different types and bits and there purposes. I think if you use bits u should know all ur possibilities. and also remember to always have a trainer(one that you trust) to help if u don't know what ur doing.
it really depends on the horse. for rubi changing her bit keeps her from getting hangy plus the change im about to make is because I don't think the kimberwick is working well for her.
also any bit can b a harsh bit depending on whose hands its in. But if u know how to use a bit then u shouldn't hve a problem
we use a different bit now. we use jointed kimberwick with a chain. but we r actually changing again, we are going to switch to a barrel pelham with a chain and use double reins. ya the other one is very standard
omg...shes BEAUTIFUL!! i would LOVE to see you guys jump higher! shes a beautiful jumper and i think you BOTH have potential to be competing and jumping higher!
i know i cant wait until we can jump higher we have been keeping it low because she had been out of work for year and it was her first summer jumping plus the barn that i ride at, the owner doesn't like to go higher then like 6 inches lol, so that suks.
hmm...jump higher in secret!! lol..if you were sure about how she was going to handle it you could do like a grid sequence eg. 1 stride bounce 2 stride 1 stride and have the last fence at say 2ft just 2 ease her in2 it so shes already in a nice rhythm?
as long as she loves it and you dont overface her too quickly (which it sounds like you wouldnt do anyway) thats all you need for success! do try it, and let me know how it goes! i reckon shes got a little champ of a jumper in her :-)
your spotted draft has wayyy more energy then mine.lol. i wish mine had that kind of energy. h'ed rather i just sit on him while people take pictures.
i would luv to do eventing!!!! do u really think we could go higher?? i think she can jump like 3'6 but i bought her and she had gotten a fever so i had to rehabilitate her so this is the first summer we have really don some goo training.

Why were you using a kimberwick and why are you switching to a pelham?
:o

Oh heck I don't know! Just trying to learn more about this whole BIT thing.

Thank you! Does your horse have a hard mouth or are you afraid she might get one?
Maishley 2 years ago
I don't want her to get one because shes so big and strong already that would just kill. Also switching her bits up always keeps her in check
horsegirl500 2 years ago
so a pelham isn't a harsh bit? You don't think changing bits gives a horse a hard mouth? I don't know. Again, just curious.

Why do you use that bit instead of another? Just curious. It seems that's standard?

i know i kinda have already but the jumps aren't set high in the ring and if she sees one set higher she gets suspicous.
and ill try that jump sequence, on my own, ill try and sneek in a 2 footer.
ya i wish i cld jump higher i think she wld do really well, shes luvs jumping
