It seems clear Sen. Reid was talking about the annual cost of healthcare in the U.S. (which is actually more like $2.4 trillion). But this gets twisted into a statement about the cost of this legislation, even though Reid doesn't say anything like this. It's not true, but that won't keep it from being posted on a few thousand websites.

Maybe my math is different the his, isn't that 540 billion over 10 years, almost 2 times as much as scheduled cuts in Medicare reimbursement rates to providers that the Baucus plan intent to do. Oh and by the way Stabenow (D-MI) introduced a separate bill to increase those payments, which will cost more than $240 billion over the next ten years to replace the cuts Baucus plan, just so it keep his bill neutral. 15,000 doctors have since moved to Texas.

There is a moral issue with tort reform. It is just wrong to allow good doctors, who have done nothing wrong to be sued (forcing them to pay huge legal bills). If doctors follow established best practices they should be held harmless.
