I'm a church organist, and while this arrangement wouldn't necessarily work in my congregation on Christmas Eve, I appreciated this. It is after all, a jazz ensemble, and I'd be delighted to have musicians with this kind of energy singing in my church. It doesn't look like a congregational hymn, more like a jubilant introit. If everyone was as resistant to new music in church, we'd still all be chanting in Latin. A blessed Christmas to you all.
Those who boasted here that the Catholic church wouldn't do such an arrangement are certainly unaware that a growing number of Catholic churches, sadly, are dumping their choirs and organs in favor of praise bands faster than you can say a Hail Mary. Unfortunately, I can prove that fact.
So, Merry Christmas, everyone....and peace on earth, regardless of our differences. It starts with us, and if we can't be bearers of peace, then who will?
To answer earlier comments, it appears this arrangement of this traditional carol [not categorically a "holy song" or "hymn"] because it is part of a larger presentation (thus the end cut in the middle of a segue).
Also, it's an age & race-blended group, so the arrangement reflects this particular community.
Bottom line is, the voices of all types of people---in all our diversity--are unified with the voices of Heaven in singing out songs of joyfulness at Christmastime.
Why were they applauding for the choir walking down the aisle at the beginning? Odd seeing the band members in such casual outfits and jeans as though they're playing a gig at college or something. Glad it is uplifting music though, obviously this church likes it this way, so good for them.
You people who are posting negative comments here should be ashamed. God does not look for perfection. I am Catholic and I would much rather see my church spend the Billions of dollars they spend on statues and perfection on the needy and the down trodden. If you are all so righteous you would know Jesus spent his time with the poor and needy. Not in the gold laden temples with the devil's work going on all around them.
Musical interpretation is subjective. Everyone is moved differently. Personally, to much distraction from the drums, bass guitar and horns being played to their own phrasing and alternate keys.
I think some things are perfection as written. Not much for happy clappy and like the simplicity and beauty of the original score of music. Obviously this doesn't do a thing for me.
Well if you like Rock 'n Roll verisons of Oh Come All Ye Faithful, this is for you. If you like traditional church organ and quieter verisons of Oh Come All Ye Faitfhul, this is not for you! The third verse is wrong sung incorrectly.
I never knew O Come all Ye Faithful was the theme of an 80''s sitcom.

Does that help?

I'd pefer to have a pipe organ playing this holy song, not a guitar and drums.

Wow, thats all I can say. Its good to be Episcopalian! I don't even think an organ is installed in that church.
