One, when did the popular definition of 'gay' evolve from meaning simply 'joy' and 'happiness' to 'homosexual'?
Two, Why is admiration or even non-sexual physical affection between men - or a more one sided admiration like in this case - today a sure case for homosexuality?
I suspect any mind that automatically goes to THAT is not secure with him/her self and/or is rather perverse, a similarly perverted misandrist way of thinking as writing off all men who love children as pedophiles.
While The death of Dan at the climax of the film was truly saddening, In think it can be argued that the execution of Charlie at the hands of Ben was just as bad if not worse. You could tell the Charlie truly cared about Ben, (homosexual allegations notwithstanding). To be killed by the man you admired, and aspired to be, I would imagine his emotional pain was rivaling his physical pain during his last moments. Great characters make great movies, which is why I find this one to be so good.

But I swear, the first 5 minutes of Ben and Charlie on the screen and I thought there was something between them. Personally, I think Charlie is infatuated with Wade, and Wade is aware but does not return the feeling (maybe using it to keep Charlie on the leash?).

Ben Wade certainly doesn't appear to be gay as he never reciprocates Charlie's fierce loyalty. The passive expression when Byron mocks his masculinity, followed by a calm controlled gunshot insinuates he's neither threatened nor surprised.
more body language cues with the extended pinky for support when clutching objects, holding the reins of his up close to his chest hands inward and fingers pointing inward, head tilts, etc.
more evidence that would support the probability of Charlie Prince being either gay or transgendered is inherent throughout the film.
