I've run XP on a 266 Mhz Pentium with 96 Megs of ram. it was slow but it worked. The XO-1 has the advantage of a faster, newer processor and the SD card is an SSD, which is faster than most hard drives.
I've run XP on a 200mhz pentium mmx with 64 megs of ram. I win in that my computer loses more, i guess ;) It actually wasn't too bad till i put, well, programs on it.
if u guys want the olpc but want an actual laptop...i have an answer, Asus eee pc... its only between $200-$500... it comes with lynux but can run windows xp... A LOT BETTER THAN OLPC!!!!!!!!
Dell has 1 now too called the inspiron mini and it has a similar price range of $349-$499 I think. I like it better though, 512 mb-1gig of ram. 4-16 gb ssd, atom cpu.
yes, but it depends on what u use it for, netbooks as they r calles r made for the internet and Intel optomized the Atom for the internet and wireless conectivity so yeah.
I wouldnt be happy with programs taking bit less than half a minute to load up like Word. I think OLPC should have focused on Sugar... but I guess we should thank OLPC for bringing ultra mobile laptops to pop up like Asus's

I would have thought 2000 would be a better choice for something like this, I mean it's just as good as XP
