Mr. Romney's statement about the Canadian and British healthcare systems in relation to the U.S. is very misleading. The 2000 WHO report states identifies the U.S. has one of the most responsive healthcare systems on the planet. But on every other measure of health (infant mortality, disability-adjusted life expectancy, etc) , the U.S. is significantly inferior to the Canada and the U.K. not to mention just about every country in Europe. When you combine all measures, the U.S. ranks 37th.

The fundamental problem contemporary American conservatism faces and will continue to face is how to reconcile a platform of "Reagan principles" born of the 80s with the changing domestic and foreign conditions of the 21st century, especially a markedly different electorate.
