@DantesProphet No, what I meant was that had the film starred two other characters, it would have been well received, it was because it was Tom and Jerry being the talking stars of a musical which ticked so many people off.

But I don't understand why. As long as it's entertaining, that's what matters, and the same went for me with Space Jam. Both are among my favourite films.

@Visonu i concur with space jam but again for old school people who grew up watching those things during the 70s and 80s and so forth these movies were two of the biggest abominations in existence my mom grew up on the looney tunes and she absolutely hated space jam damn near tried to toss my copy away because of "what it did to her childhood memories"

Who here thinks this movie would've been more successful if Tom and Jerry weren't the main characters and the two main characters were someone else? I do because all the backlash seems to moreless be centred on them talking; I still liked it though, many, many; fond memories; never seen so many villains on screen at once either :) Aunt Figg, Captain Kiddy (Greed) and Dr Applecheek :D

@Damocles178 Finally, someone gets it! I love this movie. I saw this back at my friend's house back in '93 and loved it then as well. I don't care if Tom and Jerry talk. That's the only reason most people hate this film. Nobody sees the great story, likable characters, many great showtunes, fun chaos, really good drama, or the ever-famous chase scene. Why can't people look past one small thing and see all the good things? If it's not exactly on the dot, people don't want it.

They get together a ton of clips of cartoon villains talking and they play the song over it in an attempt to make it look like they are singing the song. Sadly, the lip syncing looks like crap and there is often a poor choice of villains that are either obscure, stupid, or not even villains. Thaey are all pretty terrible.
