These were professional singers and actors. They did sing for real but not in the actual scenes because they had already recorded their vocals previously in the studio... that's usually how any movie musicals goes; everything is pre-recorded but they all do the singing. @ForeignSpices
@Penelope416 Dorothy didn't sing the Habanera section in the beginning of this movie, because she was not classically trained as an opera singer. They brought in a lady to record that part for her, and Dorothy lip synced it.
Wow. I'm not surprised on Dorthy's part, though she was a talented actress with a striking and memorable presence. It's still good to see this side of the black community in this light--- far from the average stereotype of how the media usually portrays us. @HornGoddess08
They need a real remake of this movie. Beyonce or Jordan Sparks would be nice in a serious role, not that hip opera stuff. Boris Khodjoe would be nice as Joe maybe even Shemar Moore.
@TheVamperilla I enjoyed Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. If they did a remake of Carmen Jones, I could see newcomer Katerina Graham playing Carmen. If not her, Sanaa Lathan or Nicole Ari Parker.
