Ruth made more than 3 mistakes, she made about 5. I've listened to the songs so many times that I could hear the most subtle flaws. I don't know if she counts slowing down at points a mistake, but I do.
"Ruth made more than 3 mistakes, she made about 5. I've listened to the songs so many times that I could hear the most subtle flaws. I don't know if she counts slowing down at points a mistake, but I do."
She's been away 3 decades from music and you find 5 mistakes? You're dissing RUTH??? You Asperger UFO bastard, WTF is wrong with you? She's the angel of invention and you ... can't pick your own nose? Beam up and go home!
@CBurton Never, I could not match this woman. I just hear the wrong notes because I listen to this song a couple of times every day. Ruth is a god at her instrument. She said that she hasn't played this song in thirty years...I'm still impressed.
@G7flat5 Given Dweezil was suffering from cramp/over stretching in his fretting hand, I'd wage a bet that very few people could successfully play that part on guitar.
I NEED to save this, share it, remind myself to learn it and use it in my extremely primitive Apple GarageBand rock guitar (aka "guitarbage" outings). I revere Frank and I love Ruth.
I love Zappa music, but after just listening to Ruth explain the music I realize that as great as I thought Zappa's compositions were/are, I still didn't properly scope the true grandeur and majesty of his writing, until now (I' like to think). I miss Frank Zappa. He was a giant among giants and no matter what anyone says good, it still is not enough and it still is an understatement. Music is the best and Zappa music is the the best music and neckties are still neck ornaments.
Thank you Ruth, you're so kind, I've just saved a lot of time about getting the right notes for playing rollo
@PurplePlayer99: Some F. Zappa pieces are into the real books, also S. Vai has edited a guitar book, and there is a song book... I use to make my own scores for playing FZ in bands, zappa musicians are so accurate that it's relatively easy to transcribe but a knowledge of asymmetric rythms is needed
What I love most about Ruth is her shy smile after playing an incredibly difficult lick, like Rollo Interior... just check out all the vids available where she plays.
It's true . . . but the Beatles are still a fun pop group even if they can't compete with Frank . . . George Martin is somewhat of an unsung genius though, gotta admit at the least.
He's totally eclipsed by the songwriting team though when their success is equally do to his touch. I guess unsung isn't the word but "less-sung" maybe, lol . . . but yeah of course I fucking missed Beatlemania, I'm fucking 18 years old, it ended like 21 years before I was even born.
I have the DVD. It's a docu on Apostrophe and Overnight Sensation, with lots of interviews with band members and some really cool rare footage of the early days.
The whole Apostrophy album is available as sheet music. It also has guitar tabs under the standard notation. I personally prefer to ignore the tabs & work out the fingerings for myself.
This is such an insane piece of music. That fact that Ruthy can still even approach it after all these years is a testament to how good she is. The version on the ZPZ DVD is ridiculous, especially Dweezil.
Can't help but think of the quote from Amadeus: "You mean THESE....are ORIGINALS?"

No body makes the Beatles look stupid.
Posters that make stupid posts look stupid.
However, Ruth is wonderful as always and she plays the required parts so wonderfully that no body has ever replaced her.
Even Z plays Z has to go to the tapes of her and call it sampling.
And after 30 yrs she knows her 3 mistakes on Rollo Interior
That is Ruth of the Conservatory.

The Beatles have been my favorite band my entire life. Frank Zappa makes their stuff look like chlld's play
lugaroftherca 2 years ago 6
Don't just look at the technical side.
Zappa couldn't be a Beatle.
The Beatles produced sincere cool stuff.
Like the Beatles, Zappa is real and not like the fake crap of today.
Back then the artist really had most of the control and not M FUCKING TV.
