"We're going to go the way that all Brit writers go [...] they come back with their tails between their legs and they're all ruined!" - it's a good point because series 5 was indeed the last very good series of the UK Red Dwarf.
Anticipating there'd be something to celebrate, the mad fool!

i think what Americans seem to do is spend alot of money on shows and make everybody very good looking. They spend that money because they have it.
But the reason i think British comedy works so well is because we've never really had a huge budget to work with. And it works to our advantage. Its funnier seeing a bunch of losers who arent the best looking guys in the world, wondering around space in a tin can, being all sarcastic and hopeless than a bunch of models having a great time.
Suits will never understand good humor and what separates a genuinely funny script from a cheap broad comedy cash grab. It's why they became suits instead of comedians. They spend their lives staring at excel spreadsheets, farting silently in meetings, jerking off on their secretary's blouse after lunch. They haven't got the taste for funny, just the taste for giant green stacks of greasy Benjamins, Dom Perignon, and BMWs. God, things in this world would be different if comedians ran things...
I think Rob (Kryten) sold out a bit because even tho he was advised to keep quiet about being offered the part he still made a decision to not tell his co stars and to happily go to the US where in the unlikely event of the show becoming a success he wouldve left the original UK cast in the lurch purely for his own financial benefit so I can understand Craig bieng miffed considering he and not Kryten was spose to be the heart of the show, Chris seemed more sanguine about it
What made the Americans copy British TV shows? It's not like we can copy StarTrek or StarWars based from US Directors. If they want to copy British shows they're just gonna have to buy the TV Series, not start all over again with different people and what like OrangeSodiePop said NCB just want to make their country laugh by stealing British Scripts and ideas. Red Dwarf was created first by a British director and the cast were British then later USA loved and laughed so much watching this show.
I think I saw like the first few minutes of Red Dwarf USA and at that point I was a new fan to Red Dwarf and even I was like "No way". If they did it this way, made a Red Dwarf that didn't have the American version of the main characters but flipped a certain way but lovable quarky characters of our own and set it up that they all came from the same red dwarf and actually could have popped in and out of each other's respective shows, to sort of reinforce that "Same universe different point"
Blimey, after watching that I'm pretty annoyed. I don’t know what the producers of Red Dwarf USA were thinking. They get a script that’s funnier than their original but throw it out just because they don’t like it?
“We’re going to be so rich” they said? These people seem to forget that TV is not just about making money, it’s more about quality programming.
Though I’m annoyed with how NBC treated Grant and Naylor and Red Dwarf, at the same time I’m also glad that RDUSA never came to be.
Those dirty stinkin' greedy NBC bastards!!...Thank God that piece of sh*t didn't work!!...I can't believe they tried to (literally) whitewash Red Dwarf!! That's just like America, (and I'm American) there always has to be a white main character, doesn't it? Racists!...That American Lister was godawful!!!...How dare them try to still Red Dwarf and it's characters...F**ckin' thieves!!...Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn 4 Life, BITCH!!!!!!!!
@PhillyGirl1 Yes, I'm aware that America has gotten some of their ideas from the UK and vice versa. But...NBC tried to STILL....the show by hiring Robert Llewellyn and Chris Barrie straight off the already established and popular UK version. (That didn't make any since!)...What if the UK tried to make their version of Star Trek and hired William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy? Americans would have been like WTF?!..And I don't like that they totally dissed Craig Charles and Danny John-Jules.
Around the 2 minute mark - that's Norman Lovett failing to come back for Back to Earth!

@OrangeSodiePop whoa. So many American sitcoms or shows, get their plots/characters from British shows.
and maybe a few vice versa.

@OrangeSodiePop Typo...I meant STEAL, not STILL...(What is wrong with my spelling lately?)
OrangeSodiePop 6 months ago
@OrangeSodiePop Yeah not having Danny and Craig would have made it sad no matter what script they had.
