I am just fed up with people who keep invoking Inglorious Basterds with this tune. Most of you guys have not the least idea that there are actually movies that are at much higher level of depth and overall message than the movie you are now so uncritically admiring.
To add fuel to the fire: just because tarantino is better than, say, m night shamalayan, doesn't mean he is, himself, any good. Yeah, basterds is better than gi joe, and arnold schwarzenegger might be a better actor than jean claude van damme, that don't make his c*ck worth sucking
I heard about this legendary french movie about the independence war in THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS,but did not know this music was from this movie, great soundtrack for inglorious basterds, epic movie
Did someone on here actually compare Tarantino to Debussy and Monet? What's the world coming to when guys who make shallow movies are compared with actual artists?
When I was watching Basterds, and first heard this. My mind subconsciously KNEW that it was familiar! And now that I know it's from Battle of Algiers, it makes sense. GREAT film. Actually, both films are now classics. I'm sure Basterds is deserving of that honor.
The "Cat People" scene and the smoke wall in the theatre upon which Shoshana's face was projected was spectacular. Don't overanalyze it. Its like Debussy or Monet, its impressionistic: a wash of multi-culti, time-traveller inputs and influences. The photography alone was worth the price of admission.
he tried to get Morricone for this one. anyway, I think it's good that he takes great music from other movies, that way his movies always have sort of a "best of", music-wise. the best music for his great scenes. The music is an imporant part of his movies and Tarantino said if somebody would create music for one of his movies that would be giving that person to much power over his work.
Completely agree. Personally, I don't think Tarantino's movies would be as great as they are if his films contained original scores.
The finale of Kill Bill is so damn powerful, not only because of the performances from Uma and Carradine, but because of his inspired use of the Navajo Joe finale score for Bill's death.
This is one of the greatest films ever made. I think Brian DePalma used this as a temp track for The Untouchables. Listen to this and the title music. Very similarly orchestrated and tempi.
Battle of Algiers is not a french movie, its an Italian Algerian Movie, this movie was censored in france more than 35 years.

yeah just goes to prove how unoriginal Tarantino can be some times.

LOL, so now he's supposed to write his own music as well?
AustrianFilmGeek 2 years ago 8
no, but he could at least get someone to comopose some original music for him. instead of taking pieces from other films.

Watch Pulp Fiction and say he's unoriginal. Then watch the Mummy Returns and say he's not original.
