wow...this is right after floyd had enough of barrett's inability to function at live shows...and was replaced by his good friend dave...must have been a tough time for all....
Dave doesn't have the "twee" voice that Syd did, and while this doesn't sound bad (I love Dave's voice), you can certainly hear the transitional stage. Twee was better done by Syd, Dave's a better rocker. The combination on this version, though, is kinda interesting...
This is a classic Barrett piece of ingenious, albeit with Gilmour on vocals who, incidentally doesn't half sound like Barrett! I totally agree with delpiero37 however-if you think it's Barrett on vocals then you really should research this band a little more.
It is clearly Gilmour but I have to say he does sound a lot like Barrett on this song. It must have been shortly after Barrett was dropped from the band.
It is clearly Mr. Gilmour. I have a dvd featuring some footgage from this show. Syd had his hair permed. So get your shit straight tossers before you go out trying to ruin my belief in santa claus.
Please, can we have no more posts saying this is Syd Barrett singing, it is clearly David Gilmour and I am staggered by the ignorance of some supposed Pink Floyd fans.
for people who thinks this is syd in this video.i have some good advise for you .all i can say its .a few things will be helpful for you.its go to an occulist maybe he will give you some good optical lens so you can be able to look at mars closer.and if you can also get your ears unclogged from all dust and shit.this is david gilmour at sight and voice
But that is the brilliance of Syd Barrett. Whehter he wrote about Arnold Layne or a float in the sky, he did sound painting. You can closer you eyes he paints images for you.
David once said in an interview that he actually didn't like the early syd barrett era songs, it was too chilidish for him and he couldn't pull off what syd did on guitar in Interstellar Overdrive for example. Not technically but you know... it was Syd's kinda unique style that he didn't want to copy.
Yeah. Syd had so much more emotion in his voice while singing this song. I'm not knocking Gilmour though, I think he sings like an angel on Comfortably Numb
David is perfect!

I think Dave sounds really good, although he is definitely a GUEST. Fantastic job though, anyway... I enjoy this performance.

No it's not. It's David Gilmour singing on one of the songs from Syd Barrett's era.
