A highly effective albeit illegal way to get rid of raccoons is to inject large marshmallows with ethylene glycol (automotive antifreeze).Why? Raccoons will eat marshmallows while many pets will ignore it.Just putting out ethylene glycol in a bowl will probably just poison your pets as well as the raccoons.However some dogs will eat marshmallows so some caution is needed.Cats will likely ignore them though.

In many locations shooting this pest with a firearm might disturb or frighten neighbors.A suppressor requires a special federal license ,is hard to obtain and in some states illegal I think.

An arrow or a crossbow bolt with a hunting tip will make the kill quicker and lessen suffering of the animal.
