  • can i join?

  • Splendid performance....:-) Thank you. :-)

  • so double helix, rotating company front, diamond cutter, z-pull... Their show designer must've watched a lot of American drum corps before he wrote this.

  • @bobistrumpet

But this is a very exciting show, too bad the JMBA performance isn't posted up as they performed a lot better at the competition rather than the encore performance.

  • they have potenial to be world champs... but in comparsion to past years this performace was a flop for them.....However in the band world to every one else including Avon h.s this is consider beyond perfection....

  • omg they must be better then avon high. why are they not goi9ng to BOA? they would kill and win every year

  • OMG! THAT DRUMLINE!!

    JIZZ IN MY PANTS...

  • This was the best performance of Malaguena I've seen in a while.

  • They were not obviously robbed in '02.

  • And you know this because...........????? Where you there at the nationals??

  • Comment removed

  • Yes.

  • @herbs4mike

Although this is two years old, the responses, but the video does not portray them as performing at their best. If there is access to the entire show at the nationals, then it may change minds. I easily thought they did wonderful, this encore performance doesn't do them any justice really,

  • Who beat them that year? Just curious about whether or not they have some videos on youtube.

  • they are amazing great job on malaguna

  • They could never have an American audience haha because we would be cheering every 15 seconds.

  • The only thing I'd probably be good at in this band is timpani haha. I think they would drop me.

  • I feel exhausted just watching this band move.

    Need some air!

  • There is not way in hell i could be in this band. Id be passed out on the floor on the 20th set or something haha

  • i love the red flags symbolizing Malaguena. U dont see many guards symbolizing to the songs by using the right color of flags!

  • I tell you about their audience haha. No way i could be in there. I would be in there shouting and cheering and get thrown out. All they do is clap.

  • OMG 8:06 is the tightest thing ever OMG I so got to move there lol!

  • i like nishihara style...

  • on 08:06 the most amazing drill... never thinkin of it! love it

  • Anyways...

At 4:52, is it just me or is there... like a choir singing behind that godly awesome baritone solo? I can't tell where it's coming from!

  • I don't understand why everyone is tries to point out where Nishihara "stole" their drill and music and stuff from. So what? It's not a crime; marching bands everywhere do it all the time! It's not a big deal; just sit back and enjoy the show.

  • correct!

  • Good job, classical style Ernesto Lecuona stuff. None of that over done DCI stuff.

  • woot!

    malaguena!

  • cadets 2003?, this show is in 2003...cadets played malaguena in 2003, so did they...hurm.....gee...i love this show tho

  • haha.. i was wondering the same thing. 2003? i just figured they started their season after dci season was over

  • as an age out in the 96' cadets i would have to say this is probably one of the hardest and best performed shows i have seen in a long while. major kudos goes to their drumline and trumpets.

  • So I've determined that this show combines Madison '96, Cavies '96, Cadets '00, Cadets '03, and the general feel of the Blue Devils if they had the Michael Gaines writing the drill.

  • Only one word for this program and this unit-- YES! THIS is what and where we should be shooting for in terms of education sophisitcation, AND entertainment.

  • yeah... that closer has a very similar z-pull to the cadets show in 2000. but anyway, i really loved this version of malguena.

  • cadets show in 2000? not in 2003? I thought cadets played malaguena in 2003!?

  • i was talking about the z-pull in the 2000 show

  • yeah sorry. i realized that after i posted it. :p

  • wow! the DNA Helix is soooo Cavaliers 95, and the closer is a typical Cadets "Z-pull"

  • actually...nishihara played indoors becoz there is not much of a big fiels in okinawa, btw...ive seen nishihara in football field before..just as same as DCI and BOA bands...THEY WERE FREAKING AMAZING...hehe...

  • the Nishihara band does kick some major ass though.

  • BOA and DCI bands cannot be compared to the Nishihara band. BOA and DCI bands both have 100 yards on wich to march plus BOA and DCI do not always march in a dome. on the slipping while marching that is a disadvantage they may be able to have better direction changes because they stick to the floor better. also all of the high school bands are under UIL rules making there no more than eight hours of practice per week where as this band i wouldn't be surprized if they practiced twice that much.

  • The UIL 8-hour rule only applies to Texas bands; any other band in the country can practice just as many hours as Nishihara, but they just refuse to.

  • The top Texas bands will often opt out of UIL during years when they attend BOA Grand Nationals, so they have more time to rehearse, so restrictions aren't relevant.

  • Really. I didn't know that they could do that. That's clever.

  • Really? Wow, even I didn't know that.

  • The best Malaguena I have ever heard, and I've heard a lot of versions of it!

  • shit dude DCI has little on them!!!!!!!

  • OMG, these guys would easily kick LD Bell's ass and any other BOA band. You can't compare it.

  • shit dude, getting that high is hella hard

and double tounging that fast while moving

    wow

  • @awesomemicawesome you just suck and can't do it

  • kill me would ya..ive been in the band, and i forgotten how to play my instruments,T_T.....i luv their malaguena....hehe =D

  • Their playing Malaguena. We play that in Jazz Band. They are awesome to be 15/16 playing and moving that fast.

  • oh my!

I have my mouth open... I'm not really a bandie but wow!

hats off to the four trumpet players...

  • They don't have practice time rules.

they can practice all the time.

H.S. Bands in texas (most) have the UIL 8hour/week rule. I think that L.D. Bell and Marcus High in Texas could rape these guys. No problem.

  • I saw the LD Bell video from last year, and I wrote what I saw on the Nishihara '01 video forum.

  • the flat surface is easier to march on than the grass of a football feild and the sound is better indoors opposed to outdoors where the sound just spreads all around and is barely absorbed by the bleachers. Even though, this is still outstanding and I don't think most American bands can do this well.

  • In defense of marching indoors, consider the extra difficulty in pulling off some of the footwork when your shoes stick to the surface instead of slide. Let's not forget that no BOA band, at least that I've ever seen, gets pulled at 5 to 5 and 4 to 5 as much as this band. (That's 5 to 5 METERS not yards.)And even though they play indoors, (BOA regionals) They're unison double-tonguing everything WHILE MOVING at 5 to 5 for Pete's sake!

  • omg!!!!!!the 4 trumpet players were awesome!!!the last one even hit a double high E!!!!!OHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!making me crazy!!!

  • I've noticed (and sorry for being culturally insensitive) that these audiences are very polite applauders. If I was there, I'd be screaming my freaking head off!!

  • Japanese audiences lose their minds just like fans on this side of the Pacific. You just can't hear it...

  • It's funny to see how much stuff they still borrow from DCI even though I think they've got the talent and ingenuity to not have to do that.

  • The Head Instructor is a '96 Cav Horn Alumni.

  • Why is borrowing from DCI considered a lack of talent or ingenuity? Personally, I think they have diverged from DCI in regard to the music and gone after more raw emotion than what's currently en vogue in DCI. (Let's not forget Nishihara is not using any electronics or huge props either.) As far as marching goes, DCI corps don't march the way they do based on a purely stylistic approach. A lot is because it's what functions well while playing on the move.

  • You're right. They can't compete because they have WOODWINDS. They are a good Marching Band, but I don't think they could compete competitively with a Div I corp.

  • oh yeah and i almost forgot to mention, no one in DCI can compete with this, not even the Cavaliers... well maybe... theyd come real close to them...:)

  • i thought bands in america were good, but i have to say this IS the most amazing band i have ever seen! i swear on my life that i have seen no one better... they could easily sweep any competition they enter... the judges would be so confused cause its so fast... thats how good they are!

  • probably not. Their championship starts on 16th of december

  • Are they going to participate the Kuala Lumpur World Marching Band Competition in Malaysia tis year?

  • malaguena mah..haha

  • DAMN..............i really want to meet their band director........this aint suppose to be in marching band competition.....this suppose to be in drum corps international competition.........

  • Watch the intro on the LCD screen and you'll see some very young participants in DCI style marching. They start at elementry school here

  • Absolutely insane. Stuff like that would compete with some of the top DCI corps.

  • kol kol kol!!!

  • im so proud of you guys!!!! nishi hara always is the BEST!!!! i miss you guys!!!! ...nishihara OB. ganabareee!!!
