gun laws do nothing to stop criminals they use stolen or black market fire arms the stricter the laws the more people willing to break them and rebel against the system.
The laws are so strict people interested in getting into hunting just give up
If some one wants to commit a crime no laws, regulations and enforcement going to stop them from doing so it is a people problem not a gun problem.
@doomsword86 Think about this for a second. Who decides if a law is "stupid" or not. To use your pot laws as example. I know one friend right now who pretty much ruined his life with pot. This also affected others. Wife, daughter, parents, etc. He was told to stop it many times, and now lost pretty much everything. So why is it illegal? To try and protect people from themselves. The gun registry definitely needs a overhaul, but to say it is a bad law is opinion.
The problem with this debate is that those against gun control (registry), are arguing why it isn't perfect, and the ones for it are arguing why it is helpful. NO ONE ever claimed it would be perfect. But this is a tactic that is easily attacked by those against. They are also, similar to many debates, anomaly hunting. They find a little flaw, or anomaly, and attack it. Common tactic, but very transparent by anyone who is familiar with debate stunts.
@viper10011 Crimes were not created by the long gun registry. They were created by those who do not abide by the registry. Equivalent to the stupid "guns don't kill people" argument, the registry did not create criminals. It created a law. Criminals choose to defy the law.
@Teinnen The vast bulk of the "crimes" with registered firearms are in fact paper crimes. The facts prove that a PAL holders is some 2.5 times LESS likely to commit any crime what so ever than your average Canadian.
@EESASTORM If the RCMP come to your house there is about a 66 percent chance they will charge you with something. BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT YOU TO HAVE THEM. AND YOU DONT SHOOT BACK
You really need to learn more of the details. We BOTH want a safe Canada. However a Registry is NOT the way to achieve this. In fact it does the opposite.
@Teinnen right so if my gun was registered then it could never kill anyone. THE POLICE WANT TO KNOW WHERE THEY ALL ARE SO THEY CAN CONFISCATE THEM ALL. They are doing it already. REGISTRATION =S CONFISCATION.
@Teinnen It is easy, and it doesnt cost anything to buy 100 of them. They know you have them and will come in your house at any time they please, and then one day they will take them all away.
@Teinnen - Herein lies the proof that you never have had any intention of buying a gun. Nobody advocates paying more for something unless they have no intention of participating.
@Teinnen - Assuming you're not lying about being in the army (which I believe is more than likely the case), you were likely the water boy running around delivering water bottles to the heroes actually working for this country's freedom.
You sound a lot like the guy advocating harsher laws and then claiming to be a champion competition shooter ... who then claimed all this nonsense about a gun going off with finger off the trigger and half way through the draw. Anyone can claim to be anything.
@Teinnen - Are you serious? So an unregistered car is less likely to get into a car accident than a registered car? Since when does registering your car put up an invisible shield that stops all accidents? If you're going to compare cars to guns, you don't need a license to own a car, so I'm sure you'll be fine with a gun owner not having a license?
@Teinnen - Have you ever handled a gun? Have you ever seen a gun besides the Lieberals "this gun would be unregistered" scare tactic ads? Do you have a PAL? Where are you getting your "facts" from with regards to negligent discharges?
The very notion of making it ANY easier for a Lieberal to write their ideas on paper scares me a bit, as I have seen just how stupid and ignorant people can be with words.
@Teinnen - PAL proves that you've done a criminal background check along with safety courses and interviews with past and current "conjugal partners" to ensure that you are responsible enough to handle a firearm without supervision. Many people have only a PAL and no firearms, particularly in my line of work as an armed guard.
Registered weapons are uncommon in crime. Approximately 96% of guns used in crime are unregistered. Firearms crime has been on a steady decline since the 1970's.
@Teinnen Since when do unregistered firearms have a mind of their own? If you think that police will get all firearms in Canada then forget about it. There is an estimated 16-20 Million firearms in Canada and only 7.5 Million of those are registered. People arn't stupid enough to register them at this point.
@Teinnen Seriously, apply for your PAL and see what a gun owner in Canada has to go through to "earn that priviledge" and then come back and comment about how onobtrusive it is or how "just wanting a gun" can qualify you. It shows in your comments you have no experience with the system. BTW I had millitary firearms training and it doesn't come anywhere close to the extra emphasis on safety tests, background checks and interviews with references and spouse for the PAL.
@Teinnen When one side has zero consideration and tolerance for another? That's a recipe for disaster. C68 and the Firearms Act was complete disregard for others and was a politically expedient tool for getting elected and siphoning off your tax dollars from you and your family. Solving nothing and creating division instead of cohesion. That's what's been wrecking this country for over 40 years. Try and get a Prohib license now? They no longer trust you because it's not "for them".
@Teinnen Yep. Tiennen APPROVES of creating underground economies by driving the parties away from the system. RevCan? You want to audit this fella?
Tiennen. Prohibition doesn't work. 1920's US tried it with Alcohol. FAIL. The Drug War is FAILING. A sign of insanity is repeating failures again and again hoping they work.
@Teinnen If the SWAT teams were doing what they were originally designed to do, they wouldn't be bothering responsible firearms owners. Put the Nintendo down and go see who's pulling the strings in the background. It's those who've warped your mind into violence and reliance on others to keep you safe. Or at least supposed to keep us safe from your frothing.
@Yeinnen: and we do comply with the law, despite it being misguided, wasteful, and ineffective. As a law-abiding Canadian gun owner I am, despite my (entirely registered) guns, two and a half times less likely to kill anybody than you are, as an unlicensed Canadian. So why should the government care about the exact contents of my gun safe when the contents of your kitchen knife drawer go unregistered?
Since when have the hunters, target shooters, collectors been responsible for crime? They are by nature the most law abiding people. Targeting them is not saving lives and preventing crime it is penalizing people who have owned firearms for years. When all the gang bangers in Toronto have theirs registered and confiscated you can have mine.
After Bill Blair has proven to the public that he will deceive them? His toys should be taken away for not playing nice. A time out is coming in the form of Rob Ford beecoming the next mayor.
With your penchant for violence-related outbursts? See above posting. I doubt you have any firearms and maybe YTube should be handing this garbage you're posting over to the cops for investigating you for being a threat to society.
@Teinnen - Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, are you? By previously having a PAL, they already HAVE proven to society that they are responsible gun owners. Registrations don't expire, so there's no such thing as "fail to re-register your gun". Nice try, though only the ignorant would follow along with your pointless yapping.
@Teinnen Well since a vehicle is a lethal weapon I would expect the same if a drivers licence expires. However, this is about registration not licences.
This is not a rural or urban issue it is about a uselees Lieberal knee jerk reaction policy that costs way too much. It does not serve Canadians in a meaningful way; and is a waste of money and resources.
Ok,.. and how many... Come on... 1 gun alone can kill someone many weapons make it easyer to find.. what a joke.. O wait there training is EVERY ONE CAN BE ARMED>. so 0-1 gun they all get treated the same..
Spliffer you obviously don't know the difference between licensing and registration. If you did you'd want to scrap the long gun registry also. Checking the registry tells the police NOTHING except that the person owns guns. Long guns and shotguns are unrestricted so they can be stored anywhere.
And if you really want to get off on "money wasted" wait till harper gets his way with bill s-10. That 2 billion over 10 years is gonna look pretty sweet compared to tens of billions we will have to spend at ONE TIME to build the extra prisons needed for nonviolent offenders. Not to mention the upkeep and incarceration costs associated with 15 new prisons. Fuck... Is everyone retarded, are they actually blinded by this reg shit? its chump change when you look at policy's trying to be brought in
@mgman71 Lets see. Making the growth of 5 plants, which are the safest drug on earth a mandatory jail sentence and locking up non violent extremely low end people, or keeping track of deadly weapons? HMM. 1 cost 2 billion over 10 years, the other will cost 50billion outright, plus $100k per year for every inmate, all so harper can get dumb on crime and increase their profits through the escalation of prohibitionist policy's. Hmm, yea about the same wastefulness... (sarcasm)
@Spliffer45 - The difference being that the money being spent on the registry does nothing while extra prisons will allow us to lock up more criminals for longer. I understand, though, that common sense isn't so common among Lieberals. It's all about the emotions and knee-jerk reactions.
The long gun registry doesnt target farmers or hunters anymore then our vehicle registry targets soccer moms. Get over yourselves, get over your deadly weapons. QQ bitches..
@Spliffer45 Oh Yea? Well when you forget to renew your drivers licence and a SWAT team comes to confiscate your vehicle, then you can compare the two.
@mgman71 I never said the criminal penalty's should continue.. But there hasnt been a case of someone being charged for not registering their weapon. Nor have i claimed the specific way it is working now is the best. I would assume someone with good technical knowledge could build a proper server database and drop costs considerably. All i said is we should have consistency, you register your vehicle then you should have to register your deadly weapons imo.
@Spliffer45 You want to make registering long guns like a vehicle? I think most gun owners could agree on that. We don't need a license to buy a car, and it doesn't need to be registered except when used on public roads. Lets apply that to long guns... All registries are not equal, when your car license expires they don't come and confiscate your car. They don't ban your sports car overnight because they think it can be converted to a race car and send you a letter telling you to hand it over.
Hey Spliff, why don't you just go ahead and shut your whore mouth?
"There hasn't been a case of someone being charged with not registering their weapon"??? Are you fucking joking? There have been HUNDREDS of people who have been charged with EXACTLY THAT.
You're not from Ontario, are you? Hey, how's that economy working out for you over there? Keep it up, you fucking mouth piece. Western Canada is going to split and we'll leave you with your welfare queens and gangbangers.
@stampederjomama Why dont you shut your mouth you butt hurt imbecile. Find a single case of someone being charged under the regulations of the gun registry. You do know currently, at this very moment, there is an amnesty period still going on... Are you really this dumb? Not to mention i humored you and spend a good 10 min trying to Google a case of someone being charged... NOTHING. Plus this farmer or whomever it would be, would be the conservatives poster boy for ending the reg... NOTHING
@Spliffer45 - How about the 400 guns that have been confiscated, via the Registry, for "paper crimes". The police have refused to press charges, but the people have certainly had their possessions stolen by police due to a minor oversight. Many times these guns are simply destroyed with no compensation. These aren't criminals, they're people who simply forgot a piece of paper. How many times have you forgotten to renew your car's registration? Was it immediately confiscated?
Motherfucker, have you ever heard of Bruce Montage? The RCMP CHARGED HIM with a bunch of shit because he refused to register his hunting guns....yeah, makes perfect sense to you, doesn't it?
Hey, how's about this! Why don't you go hang out on Jane & Finch for a couple of hours, by yourself, at night.....then come back and tell me that you are still opposed to carrying a gun for self-protection, you tool.
Take your Toronto elitist attitude somewhere else, bitch.
@stampederjomama EXACTALLY IT IS NOT EVEN LAW YOU HAVE TO REGISTRATION THEM RIGHT NOW. SAFE STORAGE MEANS IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAD TO USE IT TO PROTECTOR YOURSELF FROM ANYONE/ANYTHING YOU WOULD HAVE NO HOPE. LOOK AT IT THIS WAY EVERY FARMHOUSE WHERE I AM NEAR HAS SEVERAL, NOT JUST ONE AND FEW TO NONE ARE REGISTERED, WHY DO THEY HAVE THEM BECAUSE THEY CAN. THE RCMP ARE TIGHT WITH THE LIBERALS
@stampederjomama Bruce Montage was charged with "two counts of unauthorized possession of firearms, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, failure to use reasonable care with an explosive, and unlawful possession of an explosive(TNT). Cops later laid two additional charges: tampering with a serial number of a firearm and possession of a gun for the purpose of trafficking."
Not all reg offenses, but rather many gun offenses that would be indifferent whether there is a reg active or not.
@Spliffer45 Have you heard the RCMP are lieing to confiscate and charge as many people as they possibly can. When the RCMP come in your house with a search warrant you make sure you read it and let them go no place they arent suppose to, and you have a video camera present. And if they do you cant stop them beacuse they will beat you and lie about that.
I know this from 2 people that have had them confiscated.
@stampederjomama Not to mention he had been tempting law enforcement to punish him. It is very much like the marc emery tale... And again i implore you to learn to read as i never said the reg is perf, not that its currently the most efficient it could be and that changes are needed, so way to argue someones opinion (when you do that, you always loose btw) . I stated only that we need consistency in out policy's and not make special exceptions for a bunch of lazy paranoid gun owners. Noob.
@Spliffer45 dude the reason they brought in the registry was to take away our guns I have no doubt so of course gun owners like myself are against it. Its stupied we have 30 gun deaths a year in canada 80 percent are suside 15 percent are murders who don't register there guns and 5 percent are accidents. Like tripping with a loaded firarm. So law abiding citizens don't accont for any of that. Seriusly if i wanted to kill myself you think a peace of paper will stop me good luck man.
@viper10011 Really? They brought it in to take away everyone's guns? Really working isnt it? Funny you say this because there is absolutely no legislative text related to the gun registry that could make one think its purpose was to "take our guns away". Good one! And the biggest thing it does it make gun owners responsible for the gun, its storage, AND ITS FUTURE, and safe disposal or w/e when they get rid of it. Love to see your stats backed up as well.
@EESASTORM I lost nothing. You "lost from the start" by not being able to comprehend my comments. First off they are MY OPTION so really you have nothing to argue. I specifically wrote my statements like that, so learn to read english. Second, so what if some guy said some shit, whats the reality? NOT THAT QUOTE NOW IS IT? Grow up. 3rd, what does "the law already confiscates 594k guns a year" even mean? Are you trying to claim there have been that many REGISTERED guns taken for no reason? Dolt!
@Spliffer45 1) fine .....you opinionis not based on fact and as such is not shocking that you are wroing.
2) Allan Rock is not "some guy" he is the author of the law and thus had a huge influence in the content. Therefore what he said is very important as it is reflected in the law.
3) I am not "claiming" that 584,000 guns are confiscated by C-68 It is a point of fact. Yes they are confisacted for no reason. Again if you knew anything about the law you would know this.
the gun registry can Not confirm the presence or absence of a firearm in a home regardless of the situation or weather or not their is a licenced owner at that address!!! .
"I'm not an expert on the firearms registry" And there it is straight from her ignorant mouth. She isn't an expert on firearms, the firearms registry, or self defense. She is however an expert in balls to justify 2 billion dollar price tag because "there have been cases where it helped" 2 times? 3 times? 30? 100? 1000? ridiculous.
The chief is finding out its hard to win a debate when your argument is based on lies, misconceptions and most of all keeping most canadians in the dark about how this system even operates.

Spliffer45 1 year ago
@Spliffer45 Oh Yea? Well when you forget to renew your drivers licence and a SWAT team comes to confiscate your vehicle, then you can compare the two.
mgman71 1 year ago 3
@mgman71 I never said the criminal penalty's should continue.. But there hasnt been a case of someone being charged for not registering their weapon. Nor have i claimed the specific way it is working now is the best. I would assume someone with good technical knowledge could build a proper server database and drop costs considerably. All i said is we should have consistency, you register your vehicle then you should have to register your deadly weapons imo.
Spliffer45 1 year ago
@Spliffer45 You want to make registering long guns like a vehicle? I think most gun owners could agree on that. We don't need a license to buy a car, and it doesn't need to be registered except when used on public roads. Lets apply that to long guns... All registries are not equal, when your car license expires they don't come and confiscate your car. They don't ban your sports car overnight because they think it can be converted to a race car and send you a letter telling you to hand it over.
Jeffgr2 1 year ago
@Jeffgr2 I never said it should be exactly like vehicles, im saying we need consistency in government policy. PERIOD. L2 READ.

@Spliffer45
Western Canada is going to split and we'll leave you with your welfare queens and gangbangers.
stampederjomama 1 year ago
@stampederjomama Why dont you shut your mouth you butt hurt imbecile. Find a single case of someone being charged under the regulations of the gun registry. You do know currently, at this very moment, there is an amnesty period still going on... Are you really this dumb? Not to mention i humored you and spend a good 10 min trying to Google a case of someone being charged... NOTHING. Plus this farmer or whomever it would be, would be the conservatives poster boy for ending the reg... NOTHING
Spliffer45 1 year ago
@Spliffer45 - How about the 400 guns that have been confiscated, via the Registry, for "paper crimes". The police have refused to press charges, but the people have certainly had their possessions stolen by police due to a minor oversight. Many times these guns are simply destroyed with no compensation. These aren't criminals, they're people who simply forgot a piece of paper. How many times have you forgotten to renew your car's registration? Was it immediately confiscated?
mtylerb 1 year ago
@Spliffer45
Take your Toronto elitist attitude somewhere else, bitch.
stampederjomama 1 year ago
THE RCMP ARE TIGHT WITH THE LIBERALS
ufloetz 1 year ago
@stampederjomama Bruce Montage was charged with "two counts of unauthorized possession of firearms, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, failure to use reasonable care with an explosive, and unlawful possession of an explosive(TNT). Cops later laid two additional charges: tampering with a serial number of a firearm and possession of a gun for the purpose of trafficking."
Not all reg offenses, but rather many gun offenses that would be indifferent whether there is a reg active or not.
Spliffer45 1 year ago
@Spliffer45 Have you heard the RCMP are lieing to confiscate and charge as many people as they possibly can. When the RCMP come in your house with a search warrant you make sure you read it and let them go no place they arent suppose to, and you have a video camera present. And if they do you cant stop them beacuse they will beat you and lie about that.
I know this from 2 people that have had them confiscated.
ufloetz 1 year ago

Seriusly if i wanted to kill myself you think a peace of paper will stop me good luck man.
viper10011 1 year ago
@viper10011 Really? They brought it in to take away everyone's guns? Really working isnt it? Funny you say this because there is absolutely no legislative text related to the gun registry that could make one think its purpose was to "take our guns away". Good one! And the biggest thing it does it make gun owners responsible for the gun, its storage, AND ITS FUTURE, and safe disposal or w/e when they get rid of it. Love to see your stats backed up as well.
Spliffer45 1 year ago
@Spliffer45 You need to read the actual law and do some history checking.
Like who said............."I came to Ottawa with the belief that only Police and the Military should have Firearms".
Answer........Allan Rock.......you know the man who WROTE THE LAW!
The law also already confiscates 584000 firearms.........so you are lost from the start.
EESASTORM 1 year ago
@EESASTORM I lost nothing. You "lost from the start" by not being able to comprehend my comments. First off they are MY OPTION so really you have nothing to argue. I specifically wrote my statements like that, so learn to read english. Second, so what if some guy said some shit, whats the reality? NOT THAT QUOTE NOW IS IT? Grow up. 3rd, what does "the law already confiscates 594k guns a year" even mean? Are you trying to claim there have been that many REGISTERED guns taken for no reason? Dolt!
Spliffer45 1 year ago
@Spliffer45 1) fine .....you opinionis not based on fact and as such is not shocking that you are wroing.
2) Allan Rock is not "some guy" he is the author of the law and thus had a huge influence in the content. Therefore what he said is very important as it is reflected in the law.
3) I am not "claiming" that 584,000 guns are confiscated by C-68 It is a point of fact. Yes they are confisacted for no reason. Again if you knew anything about the law you would know this.
EESASTORM 1 year ago
@EESASTORM Hitler was not "some guy" he was the author of Mein Kampf , and he was the law
He confiscated them from Jews so they could not protect themselves. After all the law knows best.
Oh did I mention the RCMP are getting full auto MP5s.

"I'm not an expert on the firearms registry" And there it is straight from her ignorant mouth. She isn't an expert on firearms, the firearms registry, or self defense. She is however an expert in balls to justify 2 billion dollar price tag because "there have been cases where it helped" 2 times? 3 times? 30? 100? 1000? ridiculous.
