They found New Money.OBAMA Health care Money that will be taken out of every working peoples Check,Just like Social Security ,They can Loot it Too,Go back to sleep every thing is Fine we are backed by Toxic derivatives & Toxic Obamacare
Gosh, thank goodness the private health care industry isnt taking anything out of your pockets. You must love your free private health care?
TANSTAAFL - you gotta pay somehow. Taxes or fees. Nobody said healthcare will be free, but costs can be shifted from one form of payment to another and cost savings can occur by reforming the current system.
Obamacare Imagine lying in some government-run hospital, or nursing home stealing $
Imagine unattended for days in soiled sheets, suffering from hunger and thirst, covered with bed sores, your flesh aboil with untreated infections.
Imagine living in fear of resentful, underpaid health aides who take out their anger on you and abuse you.
And imagine spending your final moments on earth in the company of a government health care worker with a syringe, who injects you with a lethal cocktail.
Um, we are talking about the same bills being proposed in congress? None talk about government *run* healthcare. No government hospitals, no government doctors or nurses. They address health insurance reform! You still get care from private doctors, private hospitals, etc.
Imagine addressing reality before your imagination goes wild.
The anti-war movement went back to their parents smoke filled basement with a bag of Cheetos and is currently watching Comedy Central. Now that Chairman O is office the war suddenly a good and just war. Any war that has a D in front of it is a good war so it doesnt need to be protested.Lets elect a Republican again, so we can go back to hating the war and torture.. Then we can elect a Democrat so we can feel good about all that killing and torturing..
I always thouht the war in Afganistan was justified. Just the opposite for the war in Iraq. We were lied to about that one. As far as torture goes, we should stop it, and we have, although we still detain terrorists. Do you think we should not? In addition, I think we should prosecute anyone involved in torturing, past or present. That's the American thing to do.
For healthcare *insurance*, yes. Not neccesarily *providing* healthcare, although that is done in most of the industrialized world and by the most loved US government agency: the Defense Department.
With the government you get the accountabilityof a named bureaucrat and a public policy. With insurance companies, a nameless bureaucrat and secret policies to deny healthcare to max their profit.
Bill Gates consistently gives more to Democrats than republicans. Warren Buffet, the second richest man in the world and an avowed Democrat, gave $37 bn (with a B) to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Those guys can definately ride in limos if they want to and they put their money where their mouth is. Which limo liberals, specifically, are you speaking of?
I guess paranoid people don't have jobs? Or they're spending their vacation days? These idiots need to spend their vacations in rubber rooms- if their insurance will cover it.
Oh, golly, thanks for that informative post on socialism.
Obamacare seems to be a name made up by conservatives, because there is no plan by that name. Then, you ascribe all sorts of horrible attributes to the plan, apparently to scare children. Care to explain which plan you are speaking of?
It's a joke, because that is not what the bill says.
Sec 141: The commissioner shall be appointed by the President with consent of the Senate.
Sec 142: Lists the duties of the commisioner: One is to set standards for what is covered, not deciding treament options for individual patients. Private insurers set policies too, but they do it behind closed doors.
It doesn't talk about someone, standing in a train station, and by baton motion directing some patients to the chambers.
You are either misinformed and have not read those sections yourself, or you are purposefully misrepresenting what those sections say.
The health commissioner *does not* get to "dictate health treatment options on any basis he choses [sic]."
Give the URL, section (it's not 141 or 142) section line where it says what you have indicated. Like I said the first time: you won't be ably to, because it's not in the bill.
the term death panels were due to emmanuels description of who gets care in the us A document straight out of hitlers agenda Only the fit and productive get the care
It's health insurance reform. A part of that is to provide for people that don't have it. The other 1199 pages are to stop insurance companies from dropping coverage when you get sick, stop them from raising rates to drive you or small companies with a sick employee, off their plans in order to maximize profit, help keep us from bankruptcy when we lose our insurance from being sick, etc., etc., etc. In other words fair business practices. Who's it for? Us. This ain't welfare, it's just fair.
If you work, you get paid cash and benefits. If you don't work, you starve. That is truly fairness in it's harsh reality. Do we really want what's fair?
So it's fair if I work, pay for health insurance coverage for years, then when I get sick the insurance company denys coverage with no justification , but as a tactic to maximize profits? That's just one of the unfair practices being addressed by congress.
Those are the parts of the bill which rock, and I agree with you and those who support the bill. I don;t think it's fair when I pay for someone elses coverage, and I don't think it's fair when I can't make choices. Apart from those things, it is a fairly good bill.
Nobody is starving in america. There are people who do not lift a finger and receive food and healthcare. Yes i want what is fair. How in a wealthy country such as ours we throw our parents in nursing homes and do not help out our homeless brothers and sisters but expect the government to? The limosine liberals always say its about the children and minority rights and poor people the littleman etc... but they do not lift a finger themselves (that is without government funds but their own money).
We keep being told this is all about providing health care to those who "can't afford" it, but that was the Purpose of Medicaid.
A 1 page ammendment to the exising program would extend who it covers, and cost nothing in startup - yes some increase in taxes.
But instead, they want to shove a 1200pg bill down our throats that Supposedly does the same thing, but destroys all we like about our existing programs, and costs Hundreds Of Billions in startup.
go to downsizedcdotorg and sign the petition demanding that every bill created must cite the constitutional authority for that bill. Click on the campaign tab and scroll to the enumerated powers act. Demand that your representatives co-sponsor that bill.
The cash for clunkers has been touted as Obamas greatest success so far but he can't even run that right. The gov is only paying 2 percent of claims, and rejecting 4 out of 5 applications per yesterday's news. Makes you wonder what percent of healthcare claims will be denied? Obamacare is a clunker with a Rolls Royce price tag that we don't have enough cash for. Tell him to scrap the clunker and let us keep our cadillac.
What makes me think the government can run a health care system that the people want? The president guaranteed veterans that the VA would not be touched. Why? Because veterans like their solcialized medicine. A woman told Obama, "Leave my medicare alone and NO socialized medicine." The point is she liked medicare, which is socalized health care (although some people dont seem to know that).
The overall point is: People who have access to socialized health care want to keep it.
Notice that you mention Medicare being a social program.
Are you also aware it only has a few years left because the federal government has Bankrupted it?
They can't keep medicare/caid going with just a small percentage of us on it, there is No way they could successuflly operate one with ALL of us on it.
If you hire a babysitter and they lose one of your kids, you don't give them the whole neighborhood's kids and expect them to suddenly be better at it.
Eslake, The payroll tax for Medicare is 1.45% of your income, or a total of 2.9% when you factor in the federal and state income tax exempt amount paid by your employer. Health care costs have risen dramatically, but the tax has not since 1986. If the tax had been raised at the same percentage rate as *private*, for profit, health insurance costs have been increased, the medicare system would be *more than* solvent. Government has done a much better job than private health insurance companies.
1.45% of income in 1986 was significantly Less money than 1.45% of incomes in 2008.
The reason medicare and medicaid are bankrupt is NOT that they Used the money taxed into them, but that our Government -who does such a good job- Took money from the programs to use on other things.
The same thing was happening with social security until we got laws passed blocking their misappropriations of it, but too late to save the program.
Eslake, actually check your facts. Real per capita income increased about 30% from '86 to '06. Employer health insurance premiums increased 119% from just 1999-2008 (while pci increased only about 2.5% during that period). That health insurance increase is more than 3x the effective Medicare tax rate "increase" and I am kindly leaving out 13 years of insurance rate increases to make you look good.
Shifted revenue is ok relative to Medicare funding. The real issue is deficit spending and taking programs "off budget". BTW, every modern democratic admin has reduced the federal deficit (not the same as debt), while every modern republican one has increased it. That's a fact, look it up. Maybe Obama can, but he started saddled with war and a serious economic downturn. Republicans are "Don't tax, but go ahead and spend, spend, spend", the democrats policy is "Tax and Spend" and is more honest.
Better look up who started the banking mess in the first place. look at who controls fannie and freddie and who forced mortgage companies to give loans to people who could not afford them. Democrats. oh and 99% of democrats voted for the war and the Bush spending. Look up what democrats were saying about getting rid of saddam in the 90s before Bush was even President.
Please don't forget the elephant in the room! The right continues to disregard the derivatives market that brought the downfall of Lehman Brothers and AIG and Companies that bought up risky mortgages that were bundled "to spread the risk". None of those companies had to lend to anyone, but they chose to feed at the trough by selling risky bundled mortgages to an unsuspecting public. Regulation was needed, but we had an administration that thought regulation was a dirty word.
as i understood the downfall of the subprime was due to affirmative avtion banking which was requested to be regulated by bush' mc cain and others and frank and congress told them that fannie/freddie were sound and no threat to the us economy
They're creating a health care plan in mere months and i thought it would take alot and i mean a lot of dicussions by doctors, the people of the us, and the obama admin. i wonder how many actual caring doctors are sitting down with the obama admin to develop the depopulation plan aka health care reform. oh here take a Tylenol 3 sorry but we can't give you a new hip you're not productive enough at your current age.
We have been working on health care reform since at least Harry Truman's admin. How much more talking do you want? Oh, I forgot, it's not about talking, it's about delaying, so the insurance companies can continue to bilk the public. Silly me.
Well the left want to kill all the unwanted babies, so is it really a big surprise that they want to kill all the unproductive old people. Get your asbestosis suits on old people because they are going to start shoving you guys into ovens. Have to save cost you know.
In rhetoric, America is the land of the free and the generous, enjoying the fused blessings of a free market tempered by and joined to accelerating social welfare, bountifully distributing its unstinting largesse to the less fortunate in the world. In actual practice, the free economy is virtually gone, replaced by an imperial corporate-state Leviathan that organizes, commands, exploits the rest of society and, indeed, the rest of the world, for its own power and pelf.
45 million uninsured? -12m are not even Americans, they are illegal immigrants -14m are healthy young people age 18-35 who would rather spend their money on cell phones, booze, tobacco and high speed Internet -9m live in households with an income over 75K and would rather write a check for that broken arm instead of paying monthly health care premiums- 2m qualify for Government programs such as medicaid but are to lazy or stupid to fill out the correct paperwork. So it is really 8million
@vincevah 12 m of illegal are not counted. 18-35 do get sick and get in accidents. I don't care if health care is all privatize except it had to be affordible. BlueCross charges approximately $500 per mth.
Can anyone name ONE government run entitlement program that isn't bankrupt, has billions of taxpayers money wasted with fraud, and isn't rationed or IS good quality of care.
Look at medicaid,VA healthcare, or Indian healthcare, I've seen it firsthand the quality of care and the rationing of it. It is the worst.
Healthcare reform is needed, Tort reform to lower costs, the ability to choose your health insurance NOT government run health care.
Blaming the govt is like blaming the bank for being robbed. All of these health companies defrauded Medicare, Medicaid, or the public. Just the tip of the iceberg.
1) Tenet Healthcare -- fined $900m under False Claims Act
2) HCA (Health Care America) -- $731m under the False Claims Act
3) HCA (again)-- $631m under the False Claims Act
4) TAP [Taketa-Abbott Pharmaceutical] Pharmaceutical Products Inc. -- $559m under the False Claims Act
5) Abbott Labs -- $400m under the False Claims Act
We are people determined for the Federal govt. to run everything. If you want to solve Americans problems get out of the way and let real conservatives take over the Republican Party in 2010.
They could have insured every American in the nation who does not have coverage for the whole year with a sliver of what they spent on the Porkulus bill. If this was about Health Care, they would have done that.
Always be weary of any politician who will not accept the same plan they want to push on us.
The biggest joke is that GOP Gov. "I'm so patriotic I think we should secede from the US" Perry accepted the vast majority of the stimulus funds offered to him ($14 billion). He made a big fuss out of the fraction ($ 0.5 billion) he said no to. Then, he went back and BEGGED for a federal loan for even MORE money than he initially refused ($640 million)!
He thought the stimulus money was so evil he had to beg for even more of it.
People are dying in England and Canada? Because they have government run health care? Isn't it good for our economy for them to come here for operations? Plus, think how short a trip it will be for us to come here for our operations once the government stops paying them.
I think the "people are dying in Canada" meme comes from the lady who said that the Canadian government refused to operate on her cancerous brain tumor recently featured in a GOP commercial and on FOX Newa, only, as it turns out, she was lying about having a cancerous brain tumor. She had a non-lethal benign cyst. A type that has never killed anyone, although it was affecting her vision.
These are the same scare tactics Ronald Reagan used in the early 60's in his fight against Medicare.
Thats what a life of eating shitty foods, chemicals, and other carcinogens will get you. Healthy people don't get tumors. If someone wants to eat like shit, and I know alot of people that do, they are responsible for the consequences.
OK, you can attack the teabaggers (and I'm all with you on that), but leave my state out of it. Remember that Jack Kilby, a patent holder on the invention of the 'integrated circuit' worked at Texas Instruments and lived here in Texas. So, indirectly, you can thank Texas you have a computer, cell phone, iPod,...etc. etc. etc.
The funny thing is that the two "teabaggers" I know here in Dallas get their health insurance through the government (one through medicare, one through the VA). I asked them why, if they hated gov't health insurance so much they didn't get private insurance instead. They answered, "Its too expensive."
You could ask how many congressmen have private health coverage. Blank stare. Largest "socialized medicine" program in the world? US military. Canadians dying? I know LOTS of Canadians. The one thing they all agree on is that their health care is better than the US's. Lower infant mortality, longer life expectancy, etc.
Also, both freely admit they wouldn't even be able to get private insurance due to pre-existing conditions (diabetes for one, back problems for the other), so even if they could afford private insurance, they couldn't even get it!
I lived in Canada for years. I'd trade my current "Texas True Choice" insurance policy for my old Canadian gov't plan in a heartbeat. One x-ray and one eye infection have already cost me more than my yearly CAN tax payment that covered any and every medical expense.
hoosiermama, Talk about idiots??? The use of foul language is not to be tolerated....stick to the issues vs. calling people names....we can have an intelligent debate on this (you will obviously lose)!
The signs you "teabaggers" use all everyone who dose'nt agree with you socialist, you carry signs talking about bending over and "taking it"(anal sex) another holds a sign suggesting those who don't agree with a "bagger" move to Russia. This is debating issues to you?
According to the Austin American-Statesman TX ranks 37th in the NATION for overall child well being. TX has the highest teen birth rate in America. TX has a deplorable rate of teen drop out and HS grad rates.
If you want to solve American's problems get the idea out of your head the Federal govt. will save you. Then leave the Democrat party to help us get the neo cons out of leadership in the Republican Party.
I have never voted a straight ticket in my life! If you think I'm a liar you can dismiss that statement. I, like you, am very disheartened to see what has happened to the GOP. 3 of my favorite Presidents were Republican-Lincoln, T. Roosevelt and Eisenhower. But thank you for not calling me a socialist or accusing me of hating my country. Wish you well.
Beck would be proud because he's transformed a bunch of ignorant rednecks into his own private army, most of them believing that if rich people are made to pay 1% higher income tax the US will implode.

eslake, again you are wrong.
The HCC doesn't even get to decide what's covered, much less "dictates all policy."
Sec 122 defines what generally must be offered in the basic plan.
Sec 123: The Health Benefits Advisory Committee makes specific coverage recommendations for sec 122. The public can give input.
Sec 124: Secretary of Health and Human Services gets the committee's input and approves or denies it.
You can keep posting to the contrary, but 141 & 142 don't say what you claim. Period.

And whether or not that is the Intention of the powers being granted to 1 man, that is the logical outcome.
When you give a man the power to dictate, it will eventually be used to do that.
Or do you suggest we are somehow going to appoint only a pure, honest, people-serving person to the position?
Since we haven't been able to do that with our representative seats for the last 200+ years, I don't see how that is going to suddenly become a Given.

Are you saying that liberals want to start wars? That is so far out of touch with reality, that I am speechless.

And imagine spending your final moments on earth in the company of a government health care worker with a syringe, who injects you with a lethal cocktail.
louis12346 2 years ago
Um, we are talking about the same bills being proposed in congress? None talk about government *run* healthcare. No government hospitals, no government doctors or nurses. They address health insurance reform! You still get care from private doctors, private hospitals, etc.
Imagine addressing reality before your imagination goes wild.

Do I think the government can take care of me?
For healthcare *insurance*, yes. Not neccesarily *providing* healthcare, although that is done in most of the industrialized world and by the most loved US government agency: the Defense Department.
With the government you get the accountabilityof a named bureaucrat and a public policy. With insurance companies, a nameless bureaucrat and secret policies to deny healthcare to max their profit.

Socialism kills! - Obamacare is a DEATH PANEL.
casurveyor6357 2 years ago
Oh, golly, thanks for that informative post on socialism.
Obamacare seems to be a name made up by conservatives, because there is no plan by that name. Then, you ascribe all sorts of horrible attributes to the plan, apparently to scare children. Care to explain which plan you are speaking of?
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
The "horrible attributes" we have assigned the plan are not stories made up to scare children.
They're taked Directly from the bill itself.
We even go so far as to indicate not only section headers, but precice page numbers - and yet those in favor of the bill continue to call it lies.
They call it lies because it doesn't match up with Obama's "truth" which never cites a single word from the bill.
What does that tell you about it all? Which side is telling the truth?
eslake 2 years ago
Which of the three major bills are you speaking about? Like I said, none of them are called obamacare.
The "death panels" argument is a joke. Quote me the document and page. You can't , because it is not in any of the bills.
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
truthbringersfreedom,
The CURRENT form of the bill, HR 3200.
Sections 141 and 142.
The Health Choices Commissioner decides All treatment options. He/she is Unregulated, under no direct oversite, and there is No Appeals process.
That means he can CHOSE to let you die on a whim, and there is nothing you can do about it.
Tell me again how it's a joke.
eslake 2 years ago
It's a joke, because that is not what the bill says.
Sec 141: The commissioner shall be appointed by the President with consent of the Senate.
Sec 142: Lists the duties of the commisioner: One is to set standards for what is covered, not deciding treament options for individual patients. Private insurers set policies too, but they do it behind closed doors.
It doesn't talk about someone, standing in a train station, and by baton motion directing some patients to the chambers.
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
You didn't read enough of it.
The Authority of the Health Choices Comissioner is to dictate treatment options on any basis he/she choses.
If the HCC says it is too costly to give people over 60 anything but pain meds, they get nothing but pain meds.
That was an example put forth by Obama in less direct terms.
Why do you think the white house Science Czar is saying to abolish the hippocratic oath? That doctors putting Patients Needs First is a bad thing?
eslake 2 years ago
Eslake,
it does not say that in sections 141 or 142.
Nowhere does it say that.
Like I said the first time: you won't be ably to, because it's not in the bill.
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
The HCC dictates all coverage policy.
Whether there is a gov. option or not, he has absolute dictatorial power over what All Insurance is allowed to cover.
If he says that 65 is too old to allow any treatment, then no insurance is allowed to cover anyone over 65.
There is No Part of the bill that limits that power or regulates the grounds on which decisions can be made. NONE.
What do you THINK pgs 41-48 are talking about?
If you missed their purpose, you didn't read it.

Us. This ain't welfare, it's just fair.
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
TBF: Let me explain what's really fair.
If you work, you get paid cash and benefits. If you don't work, you starve. That is truly fairness in it's harsh reality. Do we really want what's fair?
pixleyes 2 years ago
So it's fair if I work, pay for health insurance coverage for years, then when I get sick the insurance company denys coverage with no justification , but as a tactic to maximize profits? That's just one of the unfair practices being addressed by congress.
It's not welfare, it's just fair.
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
Those are the parts of the bill which rock, and I agree with you and those who support the bill. I don;t think it's fair when I pay for someone elses coverage, and I don't think it's fair when I can't make choices. Apart from those things, it is a fairly good bill.
pixleyes 2 years ago
What if the government denies you benefits? what then? you honestly believe that government will take care of you?
mellowtribe 2 years ago

In who's best interest is this bill?

Think..
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
Notice that you mention Medicare being a social program.
Are you also aware it only has a few years left because the federal government has Bankrupted it?
They can't keep medicare/caid going with just a small percentage of us on it, there is No way they could successuflly operate one with ALL of us on it.
If you hire a babysitter and they lose one of your kids, you don't give them the whole neighborhood's kids and expect them to suddenly be better at it.
eslake 2 years ago
Eslake, The payroll tax for Medicare is 1.45% of your income, or a total of 2.9% when you factor in the federal and state income tax exempt amount paid by your employer. Health care costs have risen dramatically, but the tax has not since 1986. If the tax had been raised at the same percentage rate as *private*, for profit, health insurance costs have been increased, the medicare system would be *more than* solvent. Government has done a much better job than private health insurance companies.
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
You're using a faulty logic.
1.45% of income in 1986 was significantly Less money than 1.45% of incomes in 2008.
The reason medicare and medicaid are bankrupt is NOT that they Used the money taxed into them, but that our Government -who does such a good job- Took money from the programs to use on other things.
The same thing was happening with social security until we got laws passed blocking their misappropriations of it, but too late to save the program.
eslake 2 years ago
Eslake, actually check your facts. Real per capita income increased about 30% from '86 to '06. Employer health insurance premiums increased 119% from just 1999-2008 (while pci increased only about 2.5% during that period). That health insurance increase is more than 3x the effective Medicare tax rate "increase" and I am kindly leaving out 13 years of insurance rate increases to make you look good.
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
Shifted revenue is ok relative to Medicare funding. The real issue is deficit spending and taking programs "off budget". BTW, every modern democratic admin has reduced the federal deficit (not the same as debt), while every modern republican one has increased it. That's a fact, look it up. Maybe Obama can, but he started saddled with war and a serious economic downturn. Republicans are "Don't tax, but go ahead and spend, spend, spend", the democrats policy is "Tax and Spend" and is more honest.
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
Better look up who started the banking mess in the first place. look at who controls fannie and freddie and who forced mortgage companies to give loans to people who could not afford them. Democrats. oh and 99% of democrats voted for the war and the Bush spending. Look up what democrats were saying about getting rid of saddam in the 90s before Bush was even President.
mellowtribe 2 years ago
Please don't forget the elephant in the room! The right continues to disregard the derivatives market that brought the downfall of Lehman Brothers and AIG and Companies that bought up risky mortgages that were bundled "to spread the risk". None of those companies had to lend to anyone, but they chose to feed at the trough by selling risky bundled mortgages to an unsuspecting public. Regulation was needed, but we had an administration that thought regulation was a dirty word.
truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
as i understood the downfall of the subprime was due to affirmative avtion banking which was requested to be regulated by bush' mc cain and others and frank and congress told them that fannie/freddie were sound and no threat to the us economy

Look at medicaid,VA healthcare, or Indian healthcare, I've seen it firsthand the quality of care and the rationing of it. It is the worst.
Healthcare reform is needed, Tort reform to lower costs, the ability to choose your health insurance NOT government run health care.

kechallis 2 years ago
I think the "people are dying in Canada" meme comes from the lady who said that the Canadian government refused to operate on her cancerous brain tumor recently featured in a GOP commercial and on FOX Newa, only, as it turns out, she was lying about having a cancerous brain tumor. She had a non-lethal benign cyst. A type that has never killed anyone, although it was affecting her vision.
These are the same scare tactics Ronald Reagan used in the early 60's in his fight against Medicare.

truthbringsfreedom 2 years ago
The funny thing is that the two "teabaggers" I know here in Dallas get their health insurance through the government (one through medicare, one through the VA). I asked them why, if they hated gov't health insurance so much they didn't get private insurance instead. They answered, "Its too expensive."
nylund154 2 years ago 3
You could ask how many congressmen have private health coverage. Blank stare. Largest "socialized medicine" program in the world? US military. Canadians dying? I know LOTS of Canadians. The one thing they all agree on is that their health care is better than the US's. Lower infant mortality, longer life expectancy, etc.
stealth63 2 years ago 3
Also, both freely admit they wouldn't even be able to get private insurance due to pre-existing conditions (diabetes for one, back problems for the other), so even if they could afford private insurance, they couldn't even get it!
I lived in Canada for years. I'd trade my current "Texas True Choice" insurance policy for my old Canadian gov't plan in a heartbeat. One x-ray and one eye infection have already cost me more than my yearly CAN tax payment that covered any and every medical expense.
