  • FACT:Aus pales in comparison to the rest of world for the amount of ppl applying for asylum.FACT:5000ppl in the last 5 yrs have applied for asylum in Aus compared to 18,000 in the UK & 18,000 in Italy.FACT:80% of refugees are women & children guilty of being the first victims of terrorism.Did we learn nothing from both World Wars?Refugees are a result of war.Saddam burned everyones birth certs, ID & gave everyone the same birthday.Try to imagine that.Being Australian is being proud to say I CARE

  • i was just trying to use racism against the racist (you).

No I think we should let people in innocent until proven guilty, unless you obviously look like trouble.

  • @Stephen19852009 So your way is, wait to be attacked, your a smart cookie.

  • These are fleeing Tamil terrorists and their families. (They are even carrying their wounded carders in the boat.)

Surely they arn't innocent and not genuine asylum seekers. They are lying to mislead the world. They want to simply jump in to rich countries....it is funny.

They want only western/rich country ..puh whats wrong with south India?

Australia must send them back home otherwise all the nasty people around the world will be ended up here.

  • we dont want or need them here. They're all dole bludging losers. Your not welcome here...

  • Im sure the rules say they have to travel to the nearest country not in conflict (alot of countries between here and there).

    just a few lines:

    - we have huge un employment

    - 10,000+ homeless yet the tax payer pays for 3 meals a day, tv, recreational areas and a $400,000,000 complex for refugees.

    - lack of housing

It sickens me to see just how out of touch these affluent government members are with the people who struggle just to get by in this country.

    prioritize!

  • get rid of em. let em starve

  • send em back 2 where ever they came from. we have enuf foreigners alredy as it is.every1 tries to cum to oz coz its a good country to live in.... good to live in because of the rules and regulations to keep pple like this out!!!

  • Bring them in...settle them in Toorak.....Brighton....Canberra where life is real good.........Darling Habour.........Soon the the complaints will sound louder!

  • I would argue that Australia could do more (rather than letting a poorly resourced developing nation like indonesia have to deal with the obligations Australia too must adhere to under UNHCR) to ease the burden of suffering for the many legitimate refugees who come here seeking protection and a chance at a life we clearly take for granted

  • and just how many do you think we should take. care to put a limit on it? Perhaps all the bleeding hearts could put their hands up to pay to support them - then you can have as many as you like!

  • The Howard policy was almost more a little or zero tolerance policy that keeps the asylum seekers away from Australian shores. Honestly I doubt it makes little difference anyway we get on average a migration of 130,000 people per year who actually apply for citizenship.

  • alejay07

Not this old crap about taking in refugees! Why Do we have to take care of these illegals whilst we do not have to take care of our own sick and homeless! Charity begins at home! Lets take care of our own before pandering to the UHHCR ! Why not canel that agreement and say enough is enough WE WILL LOOK AFTER OUR OWN FIRST! To You illegals! GO BACK YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE WE ARE FULL!

  • Also - Increased numbers are due to the worsening of conflict and poverty globally recently and have no bearing on a perception of 'free and easy' ride into australia. Arrivals are still mandatorily detained, processed and - if found legitimate - settled in Australia with extraordinarily little threat to our security and lifestyle.

  • i wonder how a boat of Sri Lankan asylum seekers is able to be painted as such a monumental threat to our national security. I'm all for border protection - thats part and parcel of effective governance for any state - i just don't see how doing away with howard era practices of treating detainees in the most inhumane ways, and refusing them the recognition of their rights under international law can be concieved of as making border protection policy 'soft'.

  • These islamic criminals seeking asylum in Australia, I say shoot then and send them back to Indonesia.

THE INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT ARE TO BLAME FOR ALL THIS MESS CONCERNING THESE ISLAMIC CRIMINALS.

  • Sri Lanka is not Indonesia you twit. Also, the Indonesian navy sent warships to intercept the boat before it reached Australian waters. Had their navy not done that, we would have to be dealing with the problem ourselves.

  • SprayFire......your not even reading what I am saying you twat.

There Sri Lankian boat people, but that is questionable!

Indonesia is north west of the Australian continent, Sri Lanka is at the south eastern tip of India, get it?

  • wtf so youre saying send them to a country who in turn also doesnt want them? Indonesia doesnt want them any more than we do. And why is their government to blame? And btw last time i checked, Sri Lanka is a buddhist majority, not islam.

  • SprayFire....YES!........The indonesian government are to blame for this whole matter by letting those filthy little people seek temporary asylum in there contry.

Sri Lanka is a mixed religious country mostly buddhism 70%, with large pockets of the islamic religion (second most prominent religion in Sri Lanka).

  • Lol you idiot Kevin Rudd sent a personal plea to the Indonesian government to hold the immigrant ship in Indonesian waters, therefore denying the 1951 UN convention from applying in Australia since its not in our jurisdiction: meaning our government can just reject those people. Now Indonesia's government is asking what to do with the people since Indonesia is NOT part of the international refugee law.

And what you did was repeat what i just said.

  • SprayFire ....the insults are not working!

Prove to me Rudd sent a personal plea to the Indonesian government?....I want time? date? first words spoken? where was the phone call made from? how long did the conversation go for? where was the Indonesian government official based when speaking to Rudd? Who did he speak to? why wasn't it the indonesian prime minister himself?

Conecerning Sri Lanka and religion, I explained it more clear and appropriately.

  • LOL!@ and btw i found that extremely funny. Did you even bother to view at the video above?

The first few seconds she says

"Indonesian navy reportedly intercepted a large boatload of asylum seekers after a personal plea from kevin rudd to the Indonesian president. It is understood Mr. Rudd had recieved intelligience that the vessel was heading for Australian waters and informed President Yudihono during the phone conversation in the weekend."

  • i have explained my point. you explain yours.

So again, why is the Indonesian government to blame when in reality the Indonesian Navy stopped the boat from entering Australian waters. Benefit is to us.

  • SprayFire ...well your telling the story, again please explaine to me what Rudd has spoken about to the Indonesian government official?

Have you spoken to Kevin Rudd about all this?

  • lol... youre funny.

did you bother listening to the Kevin Rudd's voice in this video?

    1:44-1:58

    Confirmed:

search "kevin rudd calls indonesian president" on google. click any of the links, preferably by theaustralian.

and DONT tell me you wont believe it. I mean a pedophile can break in into your neighbors house and be on the news and you still wont believe it.

SO your turn. Explain your point

  • SprayFire ...your telling to story so how many time do I have to ask you!

I want time? date? first words spoken? where was the phone call made from? how long did the conversation go for? where was the Indonesian government official based when speaking to Rudd? Who did he speak to? why wasn't it the indonesian prime minister himself?

  • wtf i dont even think youre reading my comments.

    time/date: 10-11/10/09 - confirmed 13th october

phone call: Personal phone call regarding people smuggling to President Yudihono, the Indonesian president based in Jakarta. Due to healthy relations, Rudd specifically mentioned the importance of the two countries relations.

Like i said, a thief can break in to thequeens house, take something and slip out unnoticed and be on the news. and you still wont believe it

  • SprayFire .....ok I'm sorry for getting you so upset.

We have opposit opinions concerning these asylum seekers. On the scale of the matter, what we say means nothing to our government.

They love toying with peoples lives, and so does the Indonesian government.

Many people in the Australian government and the Australian media are getting money out of smuggling these people, believe it or not!

  • my apologies too. I guess a defensive side has grown in me after living in Indonesia for about 7 years and made me rethink it as a second home. Neither country wants anything to do with these asylum seekers and as youtubers there is nothing we can do about it.

  • No, of course not. I'm saying that the govt caused this problem by continuing war in their countries, and maybe they (the govt) should be looking at the causes. The propaganda starts when people say 'don't bring them in' which makes them look bad, and just fuels more war. But who causes this situation? Why not let them take responsibility. And stop war. These people don't want to leave their homes, their culture, or their country. But THEIR countries have been invaded by our leaders.

  • dont bring them in ! simple !

  • About time Indonesia pulled their finger out and started stopping these boats instead of just turning a blind eye and allowing them to come through here.

  • That's exactly what they want you to say. It's the right attitude for political leaders leading mass. It seems okay for these leaders to invade their countries and blow up their homes, but don't come on our soil looking for a home. It's all part of the propaganda machine that feeds emotions that trigger the beginning of racism. It's typical political ploy.

  • So youre all for just opening the doors and letting everyone in hey?
