  • Wow....never seen a person race an RV on two wheels around a track. Impressive.

  • Huh - honestly, it doesn't appear to be very 'smooth' riding & it seems he's working harder to hang off the bike and touch a knee than with hustling it around as quickly & smoothly as possible. Several times you can see the bike bobble around as he's dramatically shifting his weight around to get his knee way out. Still impressive to see that big a bike (trunk mural & all, lol) hauling around a track - but I bet it has even more capability than that shows.

  • @kerry129 dude... shut up. he's on a goldwing and I guarantee this guy would handle you on a track all day and night, on any bike. have you ever been on a goldwing or moved one? probably not. fucking youtube is full of people who are full of shit.

  • @zagacks It's my opinion, and I stand by it. Radically shifting 3 seconds before initiating the turn & bobbling around in the process isn't smooth, and the riding isn't really particularly fast or impressive - even for a 'wing. I haven't ridden one, but I have chased one through the Gap and am quite aware of what they are capable of. Search " deals gap on a goldwing/gl1800 by yellow wolf " and compare the difference.

  • One might venture that the majority of people on sport bikes couldn't keep up with this gent on his Goldwing... ;) Or you can note around the 2:30 mark where he is catching up to the sportbikes....

  • John is such a nice guy! I took the class at Loudon and it's just too funny to see h dragging knee on that bike! The bike massive!! I agree though! People underestimate the bike! People have dons crazy things on them!

  • hahaha Johns one of the nicest guys out there !

    rock that Goldwing lol

  • the guy on the yellow one riding the tail of the dragon can rock the goldwing to! trying to manipulate a bike that size is a a chore not just the weight but the bulk of the thing! nice riding!

  • now let's see a lap with the trailer behind it

  • @jgraf3 - It's not on a track, but I do have a video of us riding some twisties at 70+ riding 2-up and pulling a trailer. Just go to my videos and check it out. Not knee dragging but throwing sparks!

  • Perhaps it's just me but I would think that an instructor would be MUCH faster.

  • @DJFireUSA He's knee dragging on a half ton bike and your complaining he isn't going fast enough? Might as well as be asking him to play the violin and make a sandwich too.

  • @Chase1126 - I think you far underestimate the capabilities of the GL1800 Goldwing. I would suggest you check out some other wing videos, including mine.

  • And complete with a trailer hitch. Lets see it with the trailer next time!

  • @RedirXTV - If you go to my videos you will see us doing just that on a road in California headed to Pacific Coast Highway. 2 up with heavy trailer running 70+mph throwing sparks.

  • "Draggin knees is for wimps, real men drag their exhaust and luggage compartment."

  • Great vid.

  • You guys need to teach this guy how to corner a GW he is going with fear on every corner uptight and afraid this is NOT the right way to corner with a GW the guy in the sport bike will never ever be so close to mine on the road; lets don't say a racetrack !!! !!!!

  • LOL WHY?? JUST...WHY??? Fantastic riding though. Haha this made my day.

  • ahh watch gold wing threw deals gap! it dont have to be custom just let it hang out and dont ride past your's or the bikes limit!

  • Any rider (from cruiser to super-sport or beginner to experienced etc...) put your ego aside for the weekend and take the total control training course. Truly an eye opener. Much respect to Lee Parks and all he represents.

  • Bahahahaha... Some of these comments are pretty funny.

I know the guy personally (in fact I make a brief appearance at the end of the video as I pass him on the left at the 2:46 mark.) Although he's not burning up the track, he's a very smooth and skilled rider. Like it says in the video description, he teaches the Lee Parks ARC that's held at Loudon during our TTD events.

Sorry he's not a throttle jockey, lightin' up the rear tire, but this was more of a smoothness & control exercise :-)

  • Can't understand why anyone would want to take the world's finest touring bike to the race track? It wasn't built for that, it was built for crossing countries in comfort and style. You wouldn't go rally driving in a Rolls Royce .... would you?

  • Looks a lot harder than it is - truth is corners are pretty easy on a Goldwing - and while this guy is Ok, I just don;t think he wants to ride it fast.

He does a lot of climbing around on the bike, but that's not whats needed - ands it takes time...just a slight shift of weight and the bike does it itself...if (as 1SIR says) you set the bike up right for the turn.

I bought one last year - and it handles better than many bikes half its weight.

  • Its not about speed. Its about control. All the speed in the world won't get you anywhere at all if you cannot control the vehicle that you are using to go fast. This dude may not be ripping around each corner above 65 MPH but you gotta give him props for being able to control that 1000 lb monster around those corners!

  • Gay.... if a sport bike is keeping up with you and staying in the same gear the entire time.... you aren't going very fast.... I've only ridden the new wing a couple times and I would never trade my beemer for it but I was passing sport bikes .... bikes that were shifting and getting after it...

  • wow!

  • This guy can ride well but he does not know how to ride a GL1800 fast!

You can't ride the 1800 like a sport bike in the turns, you have to set the bike up not just drop a knee!

The bike would much faster going in higher in the corner and powering your way throught the turn.

I could would do a lot better on my Goldwing 1800 that this gentelman did.

Tires are most likely Avon or Mich HS Radials, nothing special there.

    Stock GL1800 has 118hp and 120tq.

    Have a Great Day!

    SIRR1

  • WTF!! That makes me want to borrow a goldwing from a dealership and look up for a goldwing "touring" ride group and go ride with them like that.

Hahahahah that would make some interesting scenery at first gas station lol. Btw I'm gixxer rider and regular track day junkie.

  • I bet he needed a nap after all that.

  • Duh, make a choice buddy, that was embarassing, are we supposed to be impressed? NOT.

  • He ran down some sport bikes with that anchor, awesome...

  • I believe John runs our local MSF and ARC courses at HVCC.

  • without dragging his knees, he'd have dragged his bike. take another look; as soon as his knee touched the ground, he pick the bike up. smart move

  • Good thing he didn't wad that thing! Lots of spendy parts to break on a 20K $ bike! Mad skills though!

  • look at how much he has to move to get to the other side of the bike!

  • Props to the Goldwing...and to the guy piloting it!

  • Hahaha! Brilliant! First Class! Superb! I'm a track day addict myself, having a 1098 for occasional track and road, and an R6 dedicated to the track, so have seen plenty of good & bad riders on the track, but this guy deserves to be on a podium, because that is some of the best riding I have ever seen! Haha! I am still laughing! Just one question: what fugging tyres did you have on?? Pirelli SuperCorsa Pro's??? Haha! Pure class!

  • Likely, nice sticky Dunlop E3s. The Wing is not a much of an "anchor" as many think. While it weighs a bunch, it alum. framed, has a 1 sided box swing arm and 120lbs of torque. I love carving mine thru the twisties....

  • great riding... would've been nice if he coulda passed atleast 1 sportbike...lol

Just goes to show you, the rider makes a big difference.

  • Very well this video.

I dont speak englis very well.

See my video: "Moto sem Piloto 2008"

I driving the Goldwing 2006 in "cruise control". I am a old man.

    Tks.

  • That's how I used to (and on occassion still do) ride my '85 Aspencade. Once I ground through the heat shields on my headers I decided the 'wing wasn't slowing me down any and it was time for another sports bike. When I started dragging the cylinder heads on my BMW R1100S I went to a Triumph Daytona 675. I take the BMW and the Triumph out on the track, and now I'm wondering if I should drag out the ol' Wing!??

  • I like how the guy filming on the sport bike has to keep his bike pinned at a crazy RPM of 6 to 10 thousand... Wow; keep following goldwings and he'll wear that thing out.

    Go HONDA !!!!!

  • "crazy RPM of 6 to 10 thousand"

    Made me laugh...

The sportbike rider is holding back alot but that doesnt change the fact that it's rly impressive riding of the Goldwing.

  • Who cares about the riding... It's pretty easy for a dedicated track rider to make his way around a track quickly... But to build a titanic sized boat of a bike handle so well is quite impressive indeed. Cudo's to honda for the goldwings capabilities.

  • A factory Goldwing won't do that, don't try that at home as they say. That bike has a very well built suspension using Racetech parts to make it handle that well, and the rider is a highly trained and skilled operator.

  • Yup he's an AMA factory rider name Irideacowah Sakisan

  • Not sure what you mean...

The rider in the video is John Colandrea, he's a trained MSF instructor, as well as an instructor for Lee Parks Total Control Advanced Riding Clinics.

  • i ride a kawasaki son

is my guess on what he meant

  • I agree with "don't try this at home kids!", but I'm guessing you haven't ridden a Goldwing in anger. Hats off to the guy in the video, I know first hand how hard it is to wrestle an 800lb bike thru the tight stuff, but anyone who says Goldwings don't handle, probably haven't tried. Riding the tank to stay out of the ass-hugging seat is the key.

  • @mrkurtz79

A factory Goldwing WILL do that. Go look at the deal's gap run by Yellow Wolf to see what a stock goldwing can do in the hands of an experienced goldwing rider.

  • @Vermincelli Exactly! My stock 03' Wing is scarred up bad on the bottom from doing just that. No modifications at all. Just living in the NC mountains and knowing how to ride it.

  • @Vermincelli Actually, Yellow Wolf ran a racing suspension by Traxxion Dynamics as do I.

  • You're kidding, right?....LOL, 6k-10k.

  • Yes I am kidding... It's a Joke!!! 10k is nothing for a 600 sport bike. I know it, you know it, now laugh.

  • Now that is how you ride a Goldwing! Great job guys!

  • badass

  • Haha Awesome.

having riden the new1800GL not hard to believe. Won't be giving up my sport bike anytime but it is very very impressive.

I really do need to go to an advanced course.

I love how he cought the other bikes.

  • Thanks guys. It is a lot of fun to ride. My goal is to make riders (especially non-sportbike riders) realize the capabilities of their bikes. All of our bikes are way more capable than we give them credit for!

  • This man was my MSF Basic Rider Coach this past weekend. An awesome guy, real knowledgeable and an excellent instructor. And as you can see here, a great rider as well.

  • That is the suv of motorcycles. Awesome !

  • Awesome job!

  • hahahahaha awesome
