Those quickly discarded "Cross - [space] - Fire" bridges that come with this mobo are not like the crossfire bridges you get with your videocard. These are 10cm long, which means you can do a dual CrossfireX over both PCI Express X16 slots (2nd one is above the white PCI slot), avoiding the usual PCI-E X8 in the middle.
That gains you a little bit of performance, but more important: if you use aircooling, it leaves a nice corridor of cool airflow between two hot videocards.
@scythe515 Placing too many SSDs on a Raid0 array it's not safe at all, man. I mean, if your system is stable you shouldn't find any problem with 2 SSDs on raid0 in like, years. But placing aditional SSDs to the array increases the data corruption probability exponentially. Bear that in mind, you are sending your stream of data divided (and damn fast), but if a single part fails, the whole data wil be lost.
@seba3001 I know that the Intel Ich10r has a bandwidth cap of about 700 MB per sec. I was wondering if the AMD 850 had improved beyond the Intel chip. Most Mobo reviews do not check Storage bandwidth to see if the Sata ports operate at their full potential.
i dont know much about computers so umm..about that power button on 07:09.. you mean that when i turn off my computer, i also can/should press that power button in order to save power or to keep everything "safe" ?
My mainboard is equal, but have not a watercooling appliance includ. This Gigabyte maiboard here is more expensiveley, does not more offer than my MSI board.

hi, i am planing to buy a new mB this christmass. and i am confused. what is your recommended motherboard for gamer. Gigabyte 890FXA-UD7 -ASUS Crosshair IV Formula 890FX or the MSI 890FXA-GD70 ????
Depends if you want to go with a lot of video cards in Crossfire X example. If you don´t need more than 2-3 slots buy the MSI one. But if you want 6 slots ...buy Gigabyte.
Sata 3.0 and 1.5 hard drives will work on the Sata 6.0 ports. But not the other way around. How could you expect all this stuff to fit in anything smaller than the HAF X? that thing is huge! Again could you show us something you cant see in photos such as the Bios?? I know its nothing different from any other Gigabyte mobo but hell you have the board right there it would really be cool to see it in action.
linus would you say in your opinion that unlocking the extra cores is a good idea or can it go wrong is it a rsiky thing or is it perfectly safe to do
i think the 16x/4x you see on some boards is not for crossfire (though you can) i think it is really only good for 4x RAID cards. otherwise, it is useless.
And btw, it is the red and white front USB head that supports on/off charge.
i bought this motherboard recently and am trying to install windows 7 on a 4 HDD RAID 0 array but windows 7 is not recognising the array. i donot have a floppy drive and was wondering if anyone has installed to similar system via USB stick???

Hi thanks for the review- I'm about to buy a AMD ii x6 -1055t (not sure if I would need 1090t ) for this CPU would you recommend this mother board or Asus Formula iv ? I won't be using the pc for gaming but I will be doing some film editing so do I really need this mother boards or would I be ok with a mid range Gigabyte motherboard like like GA-890GPA - UD3H??
@pedramm1978 The 1090T is a moot point as with any of the 890FXA mobos, you can overclock the 1055T to 4.0 gHz or more by messing with the FSB settings. Save yourself 100 bucks and go with the 1055T.
@MrKaelstrom They don't say SLI ready because it is not officially supported. The only way you get it to work is by hacking. That's why you always buy a SLI ready board for SLI, it just doesnt worth all that trouble to run SLI on an AMD chipset
@MrKaelstrom There is a hack for enabling SLI on 890FX chipset but you simply don't get the full performance. Updating an official bios won't help at all. For all the troubles of hacking your motherboard and potentially voiding warranty, I would simply go for a X58

@MrKaelstrom thanks my man, curious if you could tell me that as long as a mobo has 2 PCI E 2.0 can it support Sli eventhough it doesnt say Sli ready? and why did you say stick to crossfire than sli? is it just cause of the amd chipset? im thinking of buying this mobo or msi 790FX-GD70 but do not know whether it will do Sli- my current mobo is sli ready and i always taught i need the mobo to be sli ready to do sli? i appreciate your help friend!
What a beautiful board, that northbridge water block looks great and really comes in handy, I just cant understand why gigabyte is still adding IDE and floppy connections to their high end motherboards. I may never use 4 video cards, I will seek but I hope there is a board indentical but with just 2 PCI-E X16 slots and some X1 for sound cards.
would the onboard sound on this board beat the sound quality on the asus crosshair iv? which board would be better 2 5970s, because i want them both to run at 16x while there is a 9800gt for physx. i have noticed that the crosshair iv has 8x 8x 8x full populated but im not sure about this board.
The onboard front USB headers, marked with red have on/off charge function, so you can charge your devices when computer is turned off, whitout having to plug them into the back of the case.
This board is XL ATX so it won't fit in mid tower cases, you'll need a full tower for this, much better to buy the Asus Crosshair IV Formula or the 890FXA-UD5, both are cheaper than this.
@mohsun123 the block is not real wattercooling the watter only goes trough the 2 connectors it does not reach the mosfet or the southbridge it doesnt even touch the northbridge its just a block situated on another aircooling block and its xtended atx while chr 4 is atx so if u get the gigabyte u have to get a case that supports it :(
What are the advantages of having 2 gigabit Ethernet ports on there? Can you actually plug 2 network cables in too boost your connection speed by 2 times? That would be so sweet...
@SkitAnon I think its for like lan, if you and a friend set up computers next to eachother and you got one long and one short cable he can connect to your ethernet and you connect to the router and he will get internet through your network card.
I don't understand why Linus's reply got a bunch of thumbs-ups... it gives no information on this motherboard's ranking among the others. It doesn't even make sense, cream doesn't rise away from milk. Thanks for the respect though, I don't try to troll :D
I dislike the insane priced motherboards anymore. My last motherboard was an expensive one like this, and I regretted wasting so much money on a motherboard. Hardware changes so fast anymore, with upgrading, it ends up being a waste of money, unless your rich. I'll never use crossfire either due to the fact I'd rather have one fast card which is plenty enough speed, and quieter, with less electricity used.
@Timothy17Fan I think the advantage of crossifre is that it's cheaper to upgrade to crossfire than it is to get a brand new card. But i know what you mean eh? Technology advances so fast that things become obsolete quickly =(
I'm very impressed with this board, not the hugest AMD fan, but this bored makes me think a little differently of them, great looking bored with awesome features, where the hell is Intel with these features this is like the exact board I'm looking for only Intel, price is awesome to only $250 ! = win, great vid Linus.
@ipzent The opposite, saying SATA 1,2 or 3 is correct. Not SATA 1.5/3 or 6GB/s. They say SATA 3GBps or 6GBps to make it easier for newbies to understand the difference.

If I go 890FX i would probably get this one... but I don't need all the threes (SATA/USB) so 790FX is good nuff

Timothy17Fan 1 year ago
@Timothy17Fan I think the advantage of crossifre is that it's cheaper to upgrade to crossfire than it is to get a brand new card. But i know what you mean eh? Technology advances so fast that things become obsolete quickly =(

I'm very impressed with this board, not the hugest AMD fan, but this bored makes me think a little differently of them, great looking bored with awesome features, where the hell is Intel with these features this is like the exact board I'm looking for only Intel, price is awesome to only $250 ! = win, great vid Linus.

Finally Gigabyte treats AMD with the same respect due to the cooling system and other features as intel's X58 boards

why is the 4/8 pin sockets 'ideal' lcoation at the top, wires have to go over everything to get to it
T1carus 1 year ago
@T1carus that is a great point dude it should be next to the 24 pin which should be on the lower right corner
CGE10 1 year ago
@T1carus With a good case, you can drag the cables behind the motherboard on the other side of the case.

Gigabytes new slogan should be. "333333" GENIUS.
Peetah16 1 year ago
@Peetah16
which would be incorrect and ignorant on the Gigbyte's part.
Serial ATA IO or the IEEE standard specs call for SATA to be called SATA 3GB and SATA 6GB respectably. not SATA 3 or SATA 2.
ipzent 1 year ago
@ipzent The opposite, saying SATA 1,2 or 3 is correct. Not SATA 1.5/3 or 6GB/s. They say SATA 3GBps or 6GBps to make it easier for newbies to understand the difference.
