This is a fanfreakintastic choice for music and scenes. It works great. I was in the mood for some good old samurai movies so during my free time now I watched the 6 Lone wolf and cub movies (7th "Shogun assassin" is crap so dont even bother with it) and now Im doing all the zatoichi movies.
In Zatoichi #2, Zatoichi's real life brother played his rival. I was watching and thought the guy looked like a young Lone Wolf and it is him. I think its so cool that my 2 favorite Samurai series star 2 real life brothers.
To be honest, I thought this was going to be another shitty trailer/music mix. I have to say after watching it, you really pulled it off. Nice choice of music. Excellent scene selections. I am a long time Shintaro Katsu fan, Thank you for uploading this! Subscribed!
@stardingo747 Actually Zatoichi wasn't born blind either... he was blinded at the age of 5 or 6. If you watch "Zatoichi's Vengeance" I believe is the episode where he travels with a blind priest who plays the biwa, a stringed instrument and the priest has insight to the fact that Ichi wasn't always blind, but was in fact sighted at an early age. :) Your ideas for SW mythology definitely have some interesting viewpoints! Keep refining that idea and come up with more specifics!
the way I envision the founder of the Jedi order, is someone whose midichlorian count is just as, or almost as high as anakin skywalker's, but, vastly more powerful, because his blindness forces him to use the force, well, all the time, not just for combat or meditation. The character is as powerful as Mace Windu at the tender age of 18, and becomes as powerful as Darth Vader by age 25, all because of his blindness forcing him to constantly use the force.
the anime though would have to be "PG-13;" the founder of the Jedi order, the character I envision, is a Sith lord born blind, and the reason he's blind is the whole "homer" thing. Blindness is associated with wisdom; someone to combine the traits of Anakin Skywalker and Yoda, and, it would also help explain the whole "messiah" prophecy in the star wars myth. A Messiah is basically a repeat of an earlier personage, meaning, Anakin could not have logically been the first hight midi jedi.
to me, the Star Wars mythology would make more sense, if it turns out that the Jedi in fact originated from the Sith; it would also explain why Sith lords are better warriors, being the inventors of lightsaber arts and all that.
Yo Darth fantastic vid! Nice choice of soundtrack served up with some tasty feudal street justice! I've showed your vid to many friends just to get them into the Blind Swordsman. Huge Zatoichi fan for a long time- well done!
Have had this one in my Favorites for a while now... but really felt compelled to come back and make this comment. This is such a beautifully well done piece. Love it. Great job!
Only from darkness and stillness can one know the truth. T.T Love and tears for the passing of Shintaro Katso. Master lover of all that is good about human beings. R.I.P., sifu.
@lordliberal they try and take advantage of him cause he is blind.....and that angers him...so he kills them without mercy...not a perfect man but he never said he was
@DarthGhadar Actually everyone tried to kill him due to a price being on his head. Yes he did not like those who tried to take advantage of his blindness, but by no means did that lead to their death for that fact alone. As for mercy, Zatoichi never drew his sword first...
you have to watch the movie to really know the story (and its a damn good movie!)
also it has lots of comedy in it
i personally like that everytime they show people travelling or whatever, workers or "peasants" in the background would make a musical beat with the tools they're working with
@lordliberal Not only what DarthGhadar said but during that time in fuedal Japan, once you engaged in a sword duel it was usually to the death. People didn't just stop and say "Oh, sorry yo! My bad" lol. So he was killing so he won't be killed. None of his opponents seem to be holding back even though they clearly understand he's blind.
This was the best way a samurai could die, for justice is blind and the all knew they deserved death, but in an honorable way. Ichi means One, so they died by returning to the One. Eternal respect to the Void.
@1qreus I understand this concept as I have had the honor of living in Japan for 5 years. 3 years in Kuyshu (Sasebo) and 2 years in Honshu (Atsugi) I miss it. By the way, interesting channel. I will accept :)
@lordliberal because hes killed so many he got a big reward on his head...he may be a nice guy but just dont fuck with him cause what happened to all they assholes will happen to you as well....
Oh man I loved that Zatoichi series both sets. Every since they rescrambled the satellites haven't been able to get it. Once a year my buddy and I watch the whole The Samurai Trilogy, love those films by Hiroshi Inagaki .
Yeah Well to all Blind Swordsman fans theres one more movie coming out called Zatoichi: The Last it looks like the one thats gunna lay it the fuck down and be bad as shit. At least make up for that fucked up 2003 remake(Although i love beat) and ichi was kickass buuut, this new one looks killer
This is a great video, and the music is totally appropriate. Ever since having seen it, there's this mental connection where, whenever I rewatch a Zatoichi movie (it happens), the Flobots are immediately on my mind and vice versa. And that's good, because I like Zatoichi and I like Flobots.
My Satellite carrier used to feature Kungfu Channel, they used to broadcast the entire Zatoichi saga from beginning to end... too bad the channel is now discontinued but ever since, I have become a fan of Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman, he's awesome.
Yeah and the story line around Star Wars IV A New Hope was baste off of The Hidden Fortress by Akira Kurosawa. and Zatoichi isn't a Samurai, He's a Yakuza Messasuer (just making that clear to everyone)
I suppose you could always make an animated feature; the star wars movies are dead, but, if Lucas could get a hold of madhouse studios in Japan, the people who did Ninja Scroll, you could have a Jedi Knight origin story, and you COULD say that the very first Jedi, was blind.
can you imagine a star wars 1 hour 30 minute feature, or trilogy rather, where each of the 3 animated films was 1 hour and 30 minutes, animated by Madhouse?
It practically BEGS to be made.
I wrote a fan fiction thing that just ignores the "cannonical" expanded universe thinking; in the fanfiction I deleted because it was way too dark, I explained that the Jedi, in fact originated from the Sith, not the other way around.
think for a minute; why would an order like the Jedi, use lightsabers, if it did not have warlike, darker origins? The idea is, that the "blind Jedi" began life as a Sith Lord, but, owing to his blindness and therefore "greater wisdom," as blind people are associated with wisdom he "woke up" to the "truth." Lightsabers were kept largely out of habit "this is the way you've always trained in force use; it always included a lightsaber."
The inspiration is drawn from Chinese culture; in Wudang mountain in China, the sword arts there, where not developed by Daoists. Ancient China was no stranger to war, and psychotherapy did not exist, so to deal with their inner demons, ex-soldiers went to Wudang to control their PTSD. Because they never shook the habit of practicing with a sword every day, sword practice became a part of the Wudang tradition.
Basically, the Tai Chi sword, although peaceful in intent, had warlike origins.
When you think about it, it makes logical sense, it also ties in better as to why the Sith would want "revenge" to start with. It also explains why the Sith are generally better fighters; if you use that fan fiction, it explains that the Sith INVENTED Jedi martial arts, that is why they have an edge.
In addition to being blind, I would want that Blind Jedi to be so powerful with the force, that by the third movie he doesn't need a ligthsaber. Any lightsaber attempt to cut him anywhere, he stops it using the force, using Tai Chi inspired moves.
make for cool entertainment, but ultimately its not gonna happen; be nice if Mad House could take it up with Lucas funding it.
@stardingo747 Try the special features of "The Hidden Fortress" by Akira Kurosawa at Criterion's collection and come back trying to make more sense. A Samuraï can be blind but blindness doesn't make a Samuraï. Furthermore, a Yakusa like Zaoichi isn't a Samuraï for he has no master other than himself nor ever had one.
@stardingo747 There was a blind Jedi named Rahm Kota (a Japanese sounding name) in The Force: Unleashed games and he has a samurai like topknot and carries his lightsaber on his back like a larger sword (such as a no-dachi) check out the cinematic sequences on YouTube to see him in action... he uses the force to guide his saber... kinda cool really :)
@kieranmacduff he wasn't born blind, so it counts not. I actually thought of a star wars anime done by madhouse explaining the origen of the Jedi, a trilogy made of 1 hour and 20 minute anime movies where the founder of the Jedi order is a blind reformed Sith, in the end though probably never happen. Think about it; it just doesn't make logical sense that the Sith split off from the Jedi, because, the ligthsaber is a pretty inhuman weapon.
@stardingo747 Not saying that you're wrong! And not trying to pick a fight, because that would be awesome to have a blind Jedi!
but it is a recurring theme in Star Wars that Jedi are not supposed to trust their eyes. They feel with the force, which could be similar to Zatoichi. He doesn't use his eyes just as Jedi don't trust solely theirs!
hey man i didnt know that u put this up on youtube hey give me a call my old phone broke so i dont have your # anymore. oh ya this is chad still love this montage hey put that one starwars skit up i wanna copy of that that shit was funny as hell
Not that Darth Ghadar Would Know of Suck Knowledge but You can get All the zatoichi movies on ISO Hunt....for free....and such... but its like 13gigs but oh so worth the wait comes with subtitles and everything and recently i just found the last two episodes of the 100 episode series on there too...
WOW you even used stuff from the TV show! *applause*
I would not have thought to use this kind of music in concert with the Zatoichi films but you definitely made it work. :) (I'm definitely going to be checking out the band as well LOL ) What editing prog did you use out of curiosity?
I liked this a lot...I don't even know who Zatoichi is but now I can't do anything except respect him.I'll have to find the movie(s) for him....thank you for this video. The music goes with it I think...that or I just really like this song.
Many thanks, beleive it or not this great man ( Shintaru Katsu) has 26 movies and 100 tv episodes, sadly not many know of him or have even seen his films. Each one is a blessingand a pleasure to watch

WOW you even used stuff from the TV show! *applause*
I would not have thought to use this kind of music in concert with the Zatoichi films but you definitely made it work. :) (I'm definitely going to be checking out the band as well LOL ) What editing prog did you use out of curiosity?
Well done! :D

Many thanks, beleive it or not this great man ( Shintaru Katsu) has 26 movies and 100 tv episodes, sadly not many know of him or have even seen his films. Each one is a blessingand a pleasure to watch
