This video is from 2007 and unfortunately Olivia lost all of her Chinese because it was a local dialect that was not reproducible here. She is now 8.5 and speaks English as if it was her native language. She also now (as of 9/2011) has two new little 7 y.o. brothers from China who speak Mandarin. We hope they will be able to maintain their language since they have each other to talk to and Mandarin is much for reproducible than Olivia's dialect.
Very sweet. [It's none of my business, I know, but is there anywhere you could go now and then, (like a Chinese restaurant, for example) where she could meet people who could speak with her? And then, while of course she's learning English, she also wouldn't be totally cut off from speaking Chinese/her emotional ties from her childhood.]
I hope things have been going well for you all. Cheers!
Very cute daughter. Hehe, I have no idea what she's saying. At first I thought it was Cantonese, because the . . . tones? sound like it. It definitely doesn't sound like Mandarin to me. I looked at Wikipedia, and it seems that it could be Zhuang? Oh well. Children learn new languages quickly--she'll be speaking English in no time. :-)
so sad she lost her native language. she is so beaitiful.
