Very cool. That was great footage. I love the stuff. I never went on the Dragon Coasterbecause i was always too scared but now, riding it through the camera, i think i can handle it.
Wow, "1929" this is amazing footage! I have rode the dragon coaster many times and I never really thought about how old it was! That ride use to scare me--LOL....I have fond memories of Rye Playland.
Maybe back then this rollercoaster was fun, but today it's outdated and is not as fun anymore because of advancements in technology to make better and more extreme rollercoasters.
Its great this park is still open when so many smaller parks have closed the last 40 years. Those folks that rode that roller coaster had hard times after 1929 as the Great Depression started.
Does anyone know how to transfer something from a VCR VHS tape to a computer without destroying the quality? The only way I know how to do it is by pointing my digital camera directly to my tv while playing the tape. I have a lot of old amusement park related news stories that date back to 1991, mostly of Kennywood Park, and I want to post them someday for historical purposes.
I went on this when I was a kid, at 14 years of age and they forgot to strap me down and it's a lot faster now then it was back then. I had to hold on for dear life as I was thrown out of my seat 3 times, I had one leg off the side of it, and I almost died.
If I remember this ride back then, the markets crashed back in 1929 and the coaster lives on.
Now that the coaster is still up and running in Rye's Playland, I can ride on it as many times and I love this coaster! Every summer, I rode on my favorite ride and it is awesome!
I grew up about a mile and a half away, on the corner of Oakland Beach Ave and Newberry Pl (in the 50's.) On summer nights, we could hear the girls screaming from the top of the Airplane Coaster and distinguish this from the girls screaming at the top of the Dragon Coaster! Great memories of my youth riding those things.
YAYA Playland, best place ever, I love how right next to the ride they have one of the original carts sitting there. It was so cool sitting in it to get to see what the original actually looked like.
wow!! omg i wnet on that like the day dark night of batman came out! Its still standing you know when your on the coaster they take your picture!! its so cool i got my picture! no one puts their hands up or screams that much..classic!!
aww this just touched a special place in my heart lol I've been going to playland since I was 4 and I always wanted to see playland back when. This was cool

I love the Dragon Coaster and while I agree this is really old footage, I do not think they had sound in hand held cameras in 1929.
