  • I was always scared that the wood beams would brake, that is what makes the dragon scary today

  • Comment removed

  • Wow didn't know it was that old/

  • You know whats funny. The great depression probably started the next day. ;D

  • look they have hats on now they dont let you wear hats :D

  • Ya, how come the hats didn't get blown off.?.. I thought they were all dead while they were riding that Dragon! ! !

  • FIRST OF ALL ITS KINDA CREEPY HOW WERE WCHING DEAD PEOPLE.........WHOOOPS IM TYPING IN CAPS anywayz how did the hats stay on their heads lol

  • Very cool. That was great footage. I love the stuff. I never went on the Dragon Coasterbecause i was always too scared but now, riding it through the camera, i think i can handle it.

  • what are those wiry things that stick out the sides of the trains?

  • @RocketRodder wiry things are side handles, I held them because I didn't trust the lock bar at waist alone

  • Flappers! Love their cloche hats.

  • wow they really use to dress up for amusement parks.

  • Wow, "1929" this is amazing footage! I have rode the dragon coaster many times and I never really thought about how old it was! That ride use to scare me--LOL....I have fond memories of Rye Playland.

  • great old film. brings back happy memories as a kid going to rye playland.

  • I love the Dragon Coaster and while I agree this is really old footage, I do not think they had sound in hand held cameras in 1929.

  • Maybe back then this rollercoaster was fun, but today it's outdated and is not as fun anymore because of advancements in technology to make better and more extreme rollercoasters.

  • Play Land is still openn todayy ??

  • yea of course ima go there in the summer

  • @Rachellex33 Yes it is.

  • how did you get this video

  • i went on this roller coaster like 5000 times in the same place and the only thing that changed waz the seats

  • not only the seats, the speed is alot faster too.

  • oh i didnt notice

  • when i was younger, i thought when my mom and dad where little, they could not see in color

  • Its great this park is still open when so many smaller parks have closed the last 40 years. Those folks that rode that roller coaster had hard times after 1929 as the Great Depression started.

  • Im actually going to playland 2day and i absolutley LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this ride!!! ITS THE BEST!!!

  • went on sunday

  • damn they just jumped out, no setbelt

  • Does anyone know how to transfer something from a VCR VHS tape to a computer without destroying the quality? The only way I know how to do it is by pointing my digital camera directly to my tv while playing the tape. I have a lot of old amusement park related news stories that date back to 1991, mostly of Kennywood Park, and I want to post them someday for historical purposes.

  • OMG i cant believe what there wearing! Wow those hats must have been on their heads pretty darn tight during that ride!

  • ya know whats funny everyone in this video is dead now

  • lol most likely XD

  • i know lol. they are all dead lol

  • lol

  • @hetnhdf lol yupp they all dead

  • @hetnhdf please do explain the humor in that

  • no there not there just 80 or 70 years old

  • @hetnhdf yea i know right

  • @hetnhdf there could be one still alive who knows?

  • Resident of New Rochelle, ive ridden this ride countless times so much fun, even though it's not the best wooden coaster in the world, it's cool.

  • I went on this when I was a kid, at 14 years of age and they forgot to strap me down and it's a lot faster now then it was back then. I had to hold on for dear life as I was thrown out of my seat 3 times, I had one leg off the side of it, and I almost died.

  • Like the clothes back then. The suits looked good. Those hats must have been tight to stay on during that ride though.

  • How wonderful - the old Church trains! It's fun, but can't hold a candle since the Morgans were installed...

  • am going there friday

  • Riding w/ a hat on?

  • Now this is a landmark I would love to ride!

  • Build it and they will come!

  • Those were the days... When everyone rode a rollercoaster in suits and ties and dress and big coats

  • If I remember this ride back then, the markets crashed back in 1929 and the coaster lives on.

Now that the coaster is still up and running in Rye's Playland, I can ride on it as many times and I love this coaster! Every summer, I rode on my favorite ride and it is awesome!

  • I grew up across the parking lot from Playland in the 60-80s on

Roosevelt ave that sound takes me back!

  • I grew up about a mile and a half away, on the corner of Oakland Beach Ave and Newberry Pl (in the 50's.) On summer nights, we could hear the girls screaming from the top of the Airplane Coaster and distinguish this from the girls screaming at the top of the Dragon Coaster! Great memories of my youth riding those things.

  • wow this is sooo amazing... playland! love it .

  • wow!Thats rare footage!Nobody screams until they go in the dragon!I went on recently and the onlytime nobody screams is in the dragon!lol

  • ok ! omg that is soooo amazing! were did you get this!? cool! this incredible! excellent!excellent!
