Ahh, Gazza, Hoddle, Waddle, Bardsley, Mcmanaman, Le Tissier. None of them were the biggest, strongest or even quickest, but they had the best damn touch of a football. Unfortunately in this country, you won't make it far if you've got more talent than physique.
What was amazing is that he seemed to have oceans of time. he seemed to play in slow motion. he really was up there with the very best. Should have had 70 or 80 England caps.
To be fair, this ignores the fact that he absolutely disappeared in most games and exerted very little influence on the flow of the game. A player of his vision and technique should have been providing untold assists in addition to his goals but he never had the work rate to participate in the passing game. A total luxury player but no one made your jaw drop to the floor like Le Tissier.
@FFAR05 how would you know?he was one of the best passers and crosser of a ball.the ONLY thing that let him down was getting up and down the pitch which is why we didnt play him as a holding midfielder
did you know that when people were calling for le god to be in the england line up they gave him a game with the england b team as a chance to prove himself, he scored a hat-trick and still didn't get picked for the england team! i don't watch england international football any more!!!
Le Tiss was the best player ever, absolute disgrace he only got about 9 England caps when Batty and Ince were being picked before him..and Carlton fucking Palmer!
@ianwilson2007 I loved Matt Le Tiss as a player. I think he's the most gifted player I've ever seen. However he never seized his opportunity with England. He played crap. What was the manager to do? He gave him a chance.
@FrowningIke Are you mental? His chance to win his place at the 98 World Cup was the 'B' game against Russia, he scored a hat-trick, still didn't get picked.
@BenjC88 No, I'm not mental. One good game for England "b" is not enough to get you picked.....evidently. I rated the player. He just didn't work hard enough.
@crumpy21 I wish he had have been in the squad. If I was manager I would have had him in. It's just that I can understand why the manager didn't pick him at the time.
and back in the day southampton werre a top notch team , but when we lost all our maziin players cos of the twat rupert lowe and previous , were lost our way , cos we lost , le god , beattie, crouch , niemi, phillips, eg now we lost surman mccgoldrick , awe need to bring the old saints back!
mate don't forget Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, god we've had many, and if only that twat Rupert Lowe had never laid his filthy hands on SFC, we're on our way back up now though! COYR!!! LeTiss is a GOD!!!
There are some great goals in there. My 2 favourites are the freekick at 0:28 (obviously), and the one at 2:44 (crazy) ... but what about the strike at 2:32... for me this is proof that the damn guy found it harder to miss!!!
venables should have built a team around le tissier, i reckon we would have had a real shot at the world cup, pity he isnt 22 again he would be on a fortune, forget bloody Ronaldo.
One of the great things about Le Tiss was his celebrations. Most of the time, it was just a wave to the crowd, or maybe a fist into the air if he was feeling particularly excited. I can't remember him ever pulling his shirt off, cartwheeling, or doing a jig.
He did play for England a couple of times. Glenn Hoddle didn't think he was good enough to play for the national team. I know, dear old Glenn was never the sharpest tool in the English football box. And Matt, a poet of the ball, was pretty "lazy" in the way he played. He was simply a great player, he never moved to any other team because he was a man of loyalties, a word which does not appear in the modern football player's dictionaty, that is assuming that they can read. A master of the game!
He only played 8 times for England: the last was a World Cup qualifier v Italy. He would have had many more caps if it hadn't been for England manager, Terry Venables disliking him for some reason. By the time, Hoddle took over, he was no longer at his peak.
Le Tissier was one of the top five most talented players I ever saw. Chelsea and AC Milan both tried to buy him, but he was a one-club man.
Correction. One of the most talented footballers of all time, without a doubt. And completely wasted by England. This compilation leaves out loads of brilliant goals. Most players would be content to score one of these goals during an entire career. Le Tiss made the unbelievable a habit.
It was ridiculous what he could do. Loved watching the guy play when he was on it.
