You are all idiots, he just used distilled water, which has no impurities. Water needs minerals and stuff like that to freeze, and distilled has none. when the water touches the bowl, the impurities cause the chain reaction of the water freezing. It is perfectly safe to eat/drink. NO CHEMS ADDED
It isn't sodium acetate, and supercooling in a regular freezer means you can touch the bottle. You really need to understand supercooling there: Sforzando.
I thought water that been supercooled will turn to ice when disturbed, but in this video, the water turned to ice when they hit the bowl\the water beneath them.
the same thing happends with beer on the fridge, just let it a couple minutes in the frezer and by the moment you try to pour it,it slush!! and taste like a frape beer
Ice needs a seed crystal for form off of. Some bottles are so smooth you can get the water below freezing point without anything attaching to the sides and turning solid.
this happened to me once i was gonna put iced tea in a plastic bottle then i slipped and squeezed the bottle then boom the waterd turned into ice outside the bottle forming a splash like thing in ice
sodium acetate, looks like they didnt saturate it enough thats why its slush. Come on people what temp does water freeze at? and he says this water is at -21c?
when freezing the water turns into a supercooled liquid, where it dips below the required LACK of energy to be freezing. as long as it isnt disturbed, the water will not freeze, but once the particles are moved, like when the person poured the water into the bowl, they will get the energy to freeze. just learned about this in chem class today, sorry if some of my vocab is wrong! it only works on pure liquids tho. you can't make "instant popsicles" because the flavor crystals make it a solution.
no its not sodium acetate it freezes a whiter color and it would not fall appart they cooled the filtered water to below 32 degrees and kept it from shakeing and it is called super cooling
how do you get your water freezing, he merely cooled it, without shaking it too much and without too much impurities in the water. you'd be surprised at how cold you can get your water before it freezes.
Set your freezer to around -2 to -6F then leave it in there untouched for about 2 hours. After open it SLOWLY. Put an icecube in the bowl then start pouring. Be careful not to slam the freezer because agitating it will make freeze.
you keep the water very still don't let it move a bit. and then leave for about 6 hours and take it out. tap it in the top and it will freeze instantly.
It's possible for water to remain a liquid at beneath 0C, when it might be frozen. If the water has very few impurities, and is in a smooth container, it may remain a liquid down to as low as -41C.
Then when it's poured, the freezing is triggered by the movement and it crystallises. Not quite sure why...
@kbyecruzer u keep it in cold water but keep it still and not to cold or it will freeze but its untouched water then when its shooken of poured it will freeze
it's superchilled water. It's the "state" that (pure) water enters right before beginning to freeze. When it touches an impurity (like Crystal Light or Kool-Aid) it freezes.
By "impurity" I mean anything that isn't liquid water that is the same or lower in temperature.
The temperature is at or right under 32 degrees F.
Like in the atmosphere, rain and snow need an "impurity" around which to coagulate (clump or gather).
@kbyecruzer when water turns into ice, it needs somethng such as a sharp object or a disturbance to start the change in phase but when it is left alone in a smooth surface, it wont crystalize so any little thing that touches it or disturbes it will start the reaction
Okay that's awesome, but how do you supercool water? Do you just distill it and freeze it in the bottle? And it doesn't seem to make a difference, but wearing gloves would reduce the body heat transfer
try to see what happens using distilled water. If distilled water can easily be superheated and explode from rapid nucleation , i wonder what could happen with supercooling
Ok, I just got a few questions. 1: Can you use water you get at home? 2: If not, do I need to buy a bottle of water? And last: Do I need to freeze it to like -10, then take it out, and let it get warm, before pouring it or something?
How can it be ICE CREAM... I'm with you on "ICE", but "CREAM"? It's water. No CREAM. Cream is a dairy product that is composed of the higher-butterfat layer skimmed from the top of milk before homogenization.
I know what you meant, I'm just kidding with you. ^^
its not cgi or real ice its a i forgot what its called but its a chemical they use to absorb water in oil spills it almost solidifies any liquid it comes in contact with it makes it almost like stiff jello, its really cool stuff, we did experiments in sience class with it.
that is cool. i know its true because it accidentally happened to me with apple juice one time when i was making the thanksgiving punch bowl. the whole thing froze and i couldnt get it out of the jug. i have never been able to reproduce the freezing tho. how slow do you have the cool it down and i have seen supercooling down to -5F without freezing but i dont know if thats true. step by step, how is the cooling process done?
how did you do that
