  • @manga19 3 years on, you excited for the 4th game? i know i am.

  • Man... the stuff written at the start of every cutscene mirrors the quality of ideas behind each game of the series. TDP's messages were about your path/progress or sayings with some depth that added to the masterpice status of the game. Thief 2 is not as good but ok! TDS loading messages mean nothing to the game and just seem careless attempts to add depth to the factions. I mean the message in this one is a philosofical gem.

  • @manga19 right awaaaaaaay! :D

  • Legend

  • okay, first of all before anyone gives me shit. longtime player of thief, huge pyschotic fan, love garrett (in a straight way) i just have to say that garrett looks like he has a unibrow when you see him. like no matter how long u look at him it looks like he has a unibrow

  • garret you were ,,,cute.

    and now still.

    woow but hey.

     i ,am not, gay, he-he-he

  • "Don't tell the hammers I promise"--...that doesn't even make sense. :)

  • To play this on Vista, install as normal (i have UAC off), start the game, when the main menu comes on, minimise and go to the desktop, Ctrl+Alt+Delete and brnig up task manager, find the THIEF.exe process, right click on it and go to "affinity..." make the game only use -1- processor, so leave only 1 box ticked, say ok. and then enjoy, it will play without crashing the moment you get ingame!

ive been enjoying this game again thanks to this information, now you! go enjoy it too!

  • @Stedman75 Yeah - This also works in windows 7 for me

  • To this day, one of the best and most original games to play (The voicing, the audio, the plot delivery, the cut-scenes, the story, the gameplay....) Even the visuals suit it very well. Its not the kind of game that begs for better visuals... it uses the old, dirty, rough visuals and makes them work FOR it. I can go from Oblivion, half life 2, LOTRO, or other more modern games back to Thief, and I never feel like it is lacking, even with its limitations.

  • @huckledasher agreed - I was worrying I had rose tinted glasses about the look of this and would be disappointed playing it 10 years later in comparison to the GFX in today's games but it looks almost as great as it did then

  • Always thought the first Thief had some great poetry in its cutscenes.Adds a biblical(especially in the case of Hammer scripture) mystique to the series.

  • we just had a discussion with a friend; we decided that the dude who's voicing Garret should voice Gordon Freeman if he ever does speak

  • I love this scene.

  • most people don't even know how stephen russell looks. i uploaded a short clip from a movie with him if you care to see.

  • I really have to get an English language version of the game - I bought the German version because it was cheaper, today I started playing and now, watching this original video, I've already spotted some mistranslations. Not to mention that Garrett just isn't Garrett without his unique voice (I played the 3rd game already).

  • the only level that compares to the comp games was the cradel

  • playin deadly shadows now. such a phenom game. creepy in some parts and difficult but truly amazing. better than fallout 3 and oblivion and bioshock together lol :DD

  • i will never forget system shock and thief series. never in gaming history will you see a studio as great as Looking Glass Studios was.

  • the music at the beginning with the text, its stolen from penderecki ^^

  • @StanEvalio Orly ? Which piece ?

  • @NukeCurze

search for video " Penderecki: "Emanacje" "

  • Greatest and best game ever made!

    I LOVE THIEF!

  • One of the greatest (and grossly underrated) game franchises in gaming history.

  • @lowenklee

One of the greatest, I would agree. Not underrated though, all the titles in the series have been received with near universal acclaim. I could agree with the series being a little obscure though, very few of my gamer friends have even heard of Thief, let alone have played it (an utter shame).

  • This is the coolest youtube discussion ever. I'd definitely agree with Chaotic Neutral.

  • you got tanlent lad...lol.

  • Well thats a Keeper lmao XD yea i know i'm lame

  • In this look at 0:58

    and Watch this :

    Thief 3 Cutscene 15 (Final)

    in 3:01, a reall Déjà vu :D

  • true :P

  • i have that ring! :D:D (keeper)

  • These cutscene are MASTERPIECES! They give me the goose bumps! Oh I so love Thief.

If you love Thief as well and want to support it, help us by signing this petition to release the game's source code.

The source code would mean a lot:

Thief could be improved, made portable to other OS's, MOD's could be made and a lot more.

I can't post the link here but

you can find it on the forums on Thief4-dot-com - or - PM me and I'll send you it.

  • WORD!!! Pure masterpieces!!!!!!!!!! I can watch them every year and still never get tired of them.............It takes a genius to create such a thing that never goes out of taste.

  • I just hope that in Thief 4 they return the mission briefings to these types of mission briefings. They really bring you into the game. Can't wait for the new game.

  • watching this again , makes me remember how much i hate deadly shadows. sigh, im playing it anyway.

  • Atleast the plot line was pretty good.

  • Garrett is an introvert

  • Garrett is the greatest game protagonist (if you can call him that) ever created!

  • He is definitely up there but what about JC Denton from Deus Ex?

  • nah, Garrett is a True Nuetral.

  • More like Chaotic Neutral. He never follows any rules beside his own.

  • True neutrals are offended by those who are opinionated or bigoted. A "hell-fire and brimstone" lawful good priest is just as offensive as a neutral evil racial supremacist in their eyes. They do not necessarily strive for philosophical balance. In fact, they may avoid philosophical considerations altogether. A true neutral may take up the cause of his nation, not because he necessarily feels obligated to do so, but because it just makes sense to support the group that protects your way of life

  • True neutral characters are concerned with their own well-being and that of the group or organization which aids them. They may behave in a good manner to those that they consider friends and allies, but will only act maliciously against those who have tried to injure them in some way. If an ally is in need, the true neutral will aid him, out of genuine love or because he may be able to count on that ally a little more in the future.

  • And if he was not True Neutral why even bother with Artemus?

Why come to terms with Orland?

He may have been Chaotic neutral at first, but by the beginning of Thief 2 he's already crossed over.

Also Gary Gygax is rolling in his grave right now.

  • @LgndryThndr

Dude...nobody gives a fuck about dungeons&dragons moral system since it's retarded. Period.

And yes, I know you wrote it 11 month ago, but I had to answer you anyway.

  • @NathanRomml

    nigga u mad

  • @LgndryThndr

    Yes, I'm mad.

    Sanity is for the weak.

  • @NathanRomml

Do you hear the voices too?

  • @LgndryThndr

Yesss....yes....I CAN FEEL THE WARP OVERTAKING ME!!!!!

    It is a good pain.

  • @NathanRomml

you like Table Top games don't you squidward?

  • @NathanRomml

No one except all it''s players, and perhaps Konami :-).

  • @Ragitsu

    You've got a point....

  • What a shame...

  • how he loses hes eye??

  • the pagan god tears it out!

  • Is there anywhere I can dounwload these cutscenes?

  • Hearing Garrett's warm voice just makes me want to reinstall this again. He is by far my favourite game character EVER.

Thief was great, not only the game and its atmosphere itself, but also the cutscenes and voice acting were superb.

I tried playing Thief a few years ago, but my newer videocard wouldn't run it. How do I play it?

  • its sad that u only see his left eye. it gets taken out...

  • they will. go to google type in: thief series. go to the wikipedia page and scroll down to thief 4

  • It's only rumors, isn't it?

  • nope ive checked =)

  • The only hint that we have is that the title begins with a T, we don't know for sure that it will be thief 4 (but we all hope that that will be the case).

Garrets saga is over tough, the ending of thief 3 feels like a "true" ending, but it did introduce another character that we might see in future games....

  • I think that garrett will be in it, but he wont be the only main character. perhaps the little girl he catch's trying to mug him will be a main character as well.

  • TEAM Work double agent style

  • agreed that would be badass

  • One of the best games ever created.

  • believe me , one day people will talk of this game as ART. awesome game

  • Wow, I've just found out that in the background I can hear ghost from the library in Metal Age:P

    I'm so slow..

  • ive only played T:DS (yay for the cradle) an soo want to find copys of thief:gold somewere, last hope i Emule :D

  • Try Ebay.

  • @DISKENTER just DL thief from bit torrent dude - don't worry about the ethics of piracy if you can't find a copy and it's more than 10 years old

  • @DISKENTER steam it

  • @DISKENTER it was originally called thief: the dark project btw

  • great game

  • And btw jillym1231211, you being 16 years old and playing and enjoying this game really surprises me. You were probably around 6 when it came out. I am glad to see a young gamer has respect for stuff like this!

  • Holy cow, that's kind of creepy to think about. This game is now ten years old. It's halfway to freeware status. It's offically a classic now, not just a great game.

  • Lol thanks ^_^

Yeh, I was 6 when it came out and played it when I was 10 or 11.

And I've loved it ever since xD!

  • YEH! I was terrified xD!

  • @jillym1231211 My brother played it when I was about that age too. Right now Im 17. I've loved and remembered it ever since. Unfortunately, I can't get the full version but I did try the demo and its more awesome than I remembered!

  • @jillym1231211 lol, i was one when it came out and i played it when i was about 7 - 8, it really creeped me out, especially the lost city.

  • @rolexx

im 16 as well and i couldnt be happier with this whole series :) i know everything about it!

  • I agree with harlequin. I tried playing that game on the Xbox but just decided to put it down. Nothing will be as good as the games Looking Glass created. I just wish Thief would be continued with the same vision.

  • what system is this for !?!?!?!?!?

  • It can play on Windows XP.

  • @coughin05

Windows ME was my first installation of "Thief - The Dark Projct" or Thief 1 or TDP for short.

Using Windows XP you need to install it via:

    setup.exe -lgntforce

The reward is an installation way more stable than Windows ME could ever achieve.

  • in thief 3 he was walking the streets and some kid walked up to him and pick a pocketed him and garret did the same thing. he said that is not for you, its not an easy thing seeing a keeper. its just weird. I personaly think that there should be another one. and i think theyre just post poning it, there will be another one, i garentee it

  • I hope so.

  • Yes, his right Eyes is not visible... but that must not mean anything ;3

We know... whats happen to his right Eye... will happen Years later ;)

  • Thief's scenes always were awsome indeed.

Anyone else notice the irony that his right eye is not visible throughout the whole scene?

  • hey thats true, Ive never thought of that... any idea why is that so? maybe some foretelling of Garretts doom?:)

  • well i actualy gathered all the cutsceans for the thief series and all the missing parts of the story. made up a new intro for every game and a total intro for the series and an outro then i made a movie called THIEF TRILOGY.

2 hours containing all the story. i posted samples here on youtube.come under the name thief trilogy

  • Wow this game brings back memories. I actually dug up my old copy of thief 2 and the game is unplayable today. I mean literally unplayable, I just can't get it to work on my PC. I'm sure the great game play is still intact, albeit in dumbed down resolutions though.

  • My Thief 1 and 2 games still work perfectly on my computer. But I need to play Thief 3 on my laptop as the graphics are more 'advanced'.

  • well maybe you can help me... i can´t play thief 3 on my laptop, because i have vista. (and the other computers are to old)I changed the compactillity, but it didn´t work :(

  • and so it begins...*dreamy sigh*

  • Lol ^_^

  • I think if he heard you saying that, he would rob you blind in a second!

  • HA! Lol xD!

  • Yeh little Garrett is so cute! ^_^

  • Aww little Garrett is soooo cute!

  • The cutscene that started it all...
