It seems like W. Virginia does a good job keeping up with their highway system. Only part of interstate I was on in WV was where 81 crosses the panhandle and that is the best part of 81 in the Virginia's in my opinion.
I never seen I-77 from Beckley, WV to Princeton, WV or I-64 from Beckley, WV to Lexington, VA. I wonder what these highways are like in West Virginia.
@KTNUSA Between Beckley and Princeton is a pretty nice run, not a whole lot of exits, but a lot of elevation. I like Charleston to Beckley a whole lot better. I drive this route pretty often.
One of the most interesting points on the entire Interstate Highway System is the ramp connecting EB I-64 to SB I-77. One of the concrete piers holding up the ramp protrudes from the roof of a building that existed before the interstate was built. Here's a link to a story about the building and there's even a picture of the pier in the middle of the floor space.
I guess YouTube doesn't allow linking to websites on the comments section because I kept getting an error message. So I created a space between "wvgazettemail." and "com."
Looks familiar. I drive through Charleston every December from I-64 EB to I-77 SB and vice versa to visit relatives in North Carolina at Christmas. The freeways there are not as fun to drive in the dark with heavy traffic and light snow. Talk about white knuckles.
I am behind on those videos, but that was a nice ride, the view was better in the summer than when I filmed this in the fall of last year. But anyway keep it up!
Not bad... not bad. I haven't been on those roads in years- last time I was down there was '87 and I do remember being on those roads and bridges. I always loved going over the bridges on the highways down there. Again Jim- totally awesome videos. I always look forward to your videos!
Nice video. One route in WV that I've been wanting to film is US-119 South from Charleston to the KY border. I'm always impressed with West Virginia's willingness to invest in expanding their road infrastructure. Case in point: US-121, The Coalfields Expressway.. WV has already opened some of their portion already while Virginia hasn't done diddly squat with starting to build their portion of it. Same for Corridor H. WV is cutting another 30 mi of road to open in 2013. Nothing on the Va. side
@Freewayjim Also another thing that is impressive is the US-19 Bridge over the New River north of Beckley. It has to be one of, if not the tallest bridge in state. I went Whitewater Rafting on the New and floated under that bridge... impressive indeed.
Wow, those are some really nice and interesting freeways, considering the relatively small size of the city. This looks MUCH better in HD. Makes me wanna go sometime. Thumbs up on this.
Great video Jim, I have been looking forward to seeing this ever since you mentioned having footage for it. I am not sure why, but I have always LOVED driving thru Charleston. It seems like such a pretty city nestled in the valley there. Love the song choice for the video as well

Great song selection (as usual). It even makes driving in and around Amarillo (TX-70 and I-27) interesting, use to live there many years ago.
