In the very first trailer of MGS4, the visual perspective of a Gekkou is shown for a few moments and you see it scanning the soldiers walking with it. Most likely they're programmed to identify PMC ID tagged soldiers as friendly and anything else without PMC ID as hostile.
Hmmm yeah, that would sound reasonably plausible, but wouldn't that be easy to fool if you knew what you were doing? Since, the PMCs are planning to verse off with nations like the US, which would be able to fool around with ID systems for their friend and foe tagging of things....but I guess I'm thinking to heavily into this, it's just a game, lol.
