  • This is great.I got the latest version even though he says it has bugs.Ed Whetstone is a genius.he should be working for PIxar or Dreamworks.I tried to download the documentation from his site but its like the website link where the documentation was has been taken down or something.

  • wonderful, i will try this watching ur tutorial, thanku so much

  • I have a pc 8 gb ram. And it takes like 30 seconds to do it o.O

  • Hey can i ask anyone of you? Is this script can be only used for non-commercials purposes? what if i use it in my projects or competitions? is there any legal issues?

  • @MrElkms You can use Kludge for anything you wish. If you are going to use it for commercial stuff it's a nice gesture to donate a little bit to Ed Whetstone through the paypal button on his website.....but it's not mandatory. Ed W. has created Kludge for all to use! Send him an image of what you have done with Kludge...He likes that!

  • hey man i don't have a clue what i have done wrong but i followed your this and when i get to activating it in the MEL script but won't read it right. i don't know what i have done wrong could you please help. thankyou.

  • Will try it tomorow!

    Great work as allways!

  • That is just insane, thanks a bunch to both of you who contributed by creating this magnificent work and who presented it =)

  • thank you so much stu!

  • @isyutd159 You are most welcome!

  • Still no Global Illumination Tutorial? It's ok, take your time, as long as you get to it eventually.

  • great videol! Cheers!

  • i can oly seem to make 1 building even when i select a different one. it just doubles over the first one and its really annoying. i've closed it down and restarted everything but i just dont know what else to do.

  • @Kdude1001 Remember, when you make that first building to select it and move it out of the way! It's sitting on top of the actual (original) Kludge footprint. So, if you create another (the same) building right after the first one, and you do not select and load a different footprint, or move the first building out of the way, Kludge will create the same one over and over again at the same place. Play around with it!

  • when i render the city in the render window it seems to not show the windows or anything it only shows the floor levels not sure wats going on ; / trying to use this for a video art piece at college

  • @ooljimboloo Make sure that you go into your render settings window and under features you will check the box that say "final gathering". That might be the problem or the first thing to check. Let me know...

  • @deepfriedectoplasm wew! got it. shader is required. solve it. wew! thanks

  • @ooljimboloo the shaders that are applied by default require mental ray to be loaded

  • @EdtheHobbit yea we managed to figure it out in the end and i got a pass :D

  • nicely done Deep im inspired by ur tutorials

  • @Thecoop3030 Those Kludge guys are so funny! Basically it's just telling you that you already have created a building with the same footprint as another building, don't get worried, just reload the Kludge Mel Script again and you'll be able to create more of the same building. I'm planning another small tutorial covering some of the "sniggles" that happen in Kludge so stay tuned! It's on the list. Hope that helps.

  • Thanks for the info! btw since mental ray can only export in images do you recommend a software that can import the images, and a lot of them, like around 1800 frames

  • @0fVolfAndMan Hmmmm...need more information. Maya can import image sequences if you need a movie clip to play on a plane or in the background. Not quite sure about what you are up to so send along more info and I'll see if I can't help more on this one OK?

  • What’s the best way to achieve that kind of lighting and background using the sun and sky system at 1:34?

  • @hetroman I think I had the sun direction pointing at about a 45 degree angle, however, as you rotate the camera around the scene, it will change according to the various camera angles. You can introduce a Red/Blue Shift of say .250 and that will also nicely effect the scene. The best method is to just play around with the angle of the sun and various camera angles and you should get something similar. Also, use the MIA_Exposure_Photographic Node. See my tutorial! Best of Luck. Stu

  • did you make the building's color yourself or did the program make it

  • @0fVolfAndMan The color or (texture) of the buildings is a default material assigned by the MEL script. You can change the color to whatever you want but that's a whole other tutorial for a different day. If you are using the physical sun and sky system, the buildings will take on different looks depending on how you have your sun direction set and whether you have a red/blue shift value set. Hope that helps! Good Question!

  • I don't think Maya 2012 is out yet? The Maya 2012 FAQ says April 8th.

  • @Sirfrummel April 8th!!!? I can't wait that long! I want it NOW! Yeah, even if it comes out early April, I probably won't upgrade for about 6 months or so. There's some really useful improvements for some stuff like fluids and interactive preview but overall, I will have to upgrade from a student/instructor version to the commercial version this time around so I can take it to the next level which will involve producing material with various industry pros. Thanks for watching! Stay tuned!

  • Wow!! What an awesome plugin!

  • I stumbled across another city builder script some time ago called Qtown, it doesn't create in such detail as Kludge but it's handy for large city backgrounds. :)

  • A small note from Deepfriedectoplasm: Hey everyone, just so you are aware, my screen recording program greatly slows down the flow of Kludge City and it is much faster when I'm not demonstrating stuff onscreen. For the most part Kludge is a super fast building generator!

  • Nice, Super cool tutorial... One important question.... some of us would like to know how to put clouds in the sky.. Can u show me how pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee...

More tutorials on architectural/ buildings/ cities plssss

  • @pim7777 If you go to my actual Channel Page on You-Tube you will find a couple of tutorials to help you with clouds. Look at all my "uploads" section, I have about 80 tutorials posted so you will have to scroll through the list to find them! Hope that helps! Stu

  • Video isn't processed yet but I tried this out yesterday while making a background for my matte painting. In the end I used CityEngine though. However this is still a great tool! (will watch when processed =p)

  • @TheKumaDB You must eat sleep and breathe this stuff!....I will research this CityEngine, as I am not familiar.

What was the reason you went with that option?

  • @deepfriedectoplasm Well Kludge gives better results up close, but CityEngine was just a one click solution (this is important as it gives the randomness of a real city and not a designed layout), and as it was far in the distance detail wasn't needed. Overall it was the easier of the two to work with.

  • @TheKumaDB Nevermind, the Unreal CityEngine I'm familiar with, brain melt, but yeah, let me see what your up to with that eh?

  • @deepfriedectoplasm I will upload the matte painting as it is now as soon as the next period of the Vancouver vs Calgary hockey game is over =p
