All these offensive highlights are just him running faster than people. No gaining separation through sudden breaks or precise routes.
Now that he's in NE, hes learning he can't just blow by defenders in the NFL. Hopefully he can polish his route running skills this offseason. He has the potential to be a very good #2 receiver.
If he hadn't gotten injured in 2008, UNC would've been insane that year. They were still a fairly good team with Hakeem Nicks carrying most of the receiving responsibilities, but they would've been much better with Tate and Nicks in the lineup.
actually it was stated today that he had been starting to practice, and could potentially be ready in a week or 2. i hope they wait until after the bye week to activate him though. there is also rumors of bringing up terrance nunn. he would be a great addition too. he has a lot of potential
glad to see up to date discussion on Tate joining up with Welker and Moss. now this guy is a legit playmaker.
he's not only got great hands, he's a ball hawk and his open field running shows some pure talent.
sees the field like the good ones. man, this would be so damn exciting to see him running all those short crossing routes over the middle behind Moss and Welker. talk about RAC!
He was injured, and dropped into the third round of the draft. I thought he would be on IR this year. The Patriots picked him in round 3 (a steal if the injury hasn't stolen any of his speed). He is currently on PUP ans should be active after week 6. Since Galloway seems to be a bust, he could be starting opposite Moss (with Welker in the slot) by the second half of the season. Can't wait!
That reverse against Miami was a thing of beauty. It was right after Miami's D was gloating. The days of Miami kicking the shit out of Carolina are over, and if Davis can do half as well as he did when he was at Miami, then the NFL talent train is going to be regularly stopping for passengers in Chapel Hill again.
So what, fucking Yao Ming is 7'8 with hands. he can't run for shit though, and neither can Ramses Barden. All he can be is a red zone threat, and the Pats already have the best red zone threat in the league in Moss
heyward bey wasn't a third round pick. he's actually pretty damn good, just not as good as crabtree and thats what got everyone pissed off when oakland passed up crabtree whos almost as fast as him.
You are correct, sir. Moss is tall with hands, but the difference is blazing speed. I mean, would these Barden fans rather have Steve Smith (5'9'' and 185lbs) or Joe Jurevicious (6'5' and 230 lbs.')?
I'M sorry, but Barden practically runs a 4.7. Only Jerry Rice is beating people at those speeds, and that is because he was a great route runner. I mean, if it's size and hands you want, just put a tight end in the slot. Tate is a guy who will contribute everywhere, and IF he gets healthy will have a better career than Barden. If CBs and WRs weren't allowed to jump, then maybe all this Barden hype would be worthwhile.
That's a bullshit argument. How can you gauge that in college players before they make it to the pros? Next year, if Barden makes a huge impact, catches the game-winning TD in the SB over a 5'9 CB, are you gonna turn around and say, "He has great knowledge of the game and is a great route runner"? Nobody knew who Boldin was until he produced in the NFL. That's bullshit and I'm done with this.
It's bullshit to think a guy who went to Cal Poly, is slowish and who LOOKS like a poor route runner isn't going to be this huge star half the people on the internet thinks he is? It's an opinion that isn't the same as yours, that's all.
Boldin caught 20+ TD passes at FSU and was a second rounder -- I certainly knew who he was pre-NFL.
At Poly Barden physically dominated CBs. NFL corners have the athleticism to match, so unless he can change his game, I don't think he will be successful.
And what, do you think NFL scouts don't give college wide receivers route running grades? That's all they do is gauge qualities in college players before the NFL.
And I may be too, obviously. I guess I've just been a little annoyed at all the (mostly Giants) fans fawning over the guy while Hakeem Nicks has been the class receiver of their camp so far.
You've been annoyed? I've been annoyed at all the (mostly Patriots) fans fawning over Tate while he's obviously injured and hasn't done SHIT. Can't believe the Patriots wasted a 3rd round pick on a kick returner. With the depth at WR, I doubt he'll get much playing time EVEN when healthy.
For what it's worth, the Giants haven't even felt it was worth it to put Barden in the game lately. Nicks, despite his injuries, has been the stellar rookie for the Giants.
Tate is out injured and still has as many catches as Barden.
@plyzwthsqrlz: He's on kick coverage. Big difference. You have seen their stats, right? Barden has one reception for 16 yards in his career. Tate bettered that in his first real game as a pro.
Patriots agreed to terms with third-round WR Brandon Tate on a four-year contract with a $755,000 signing bonus, i know patriots fans are happy now! I AM!:D
Welcome aboard Tate, im hoping to see you doing what you was doin be4 your injury!
Brandon, congratulations on being selected by the New England Patriots in the 2009 NFL Draft. I know that you are excited and looking forward to August 13 when you all travel to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. Best of luck.
every play nicks makes is amzaming nicks is way better but brady might be bad doyou know nelson on magic he scored 27 points to like 6 so bad for pats
I watched both for four years while in college, and believe me, they both can play the possession guy. The reason Tate makes these wide open catches is because he burns people's asses. Plus he's the NCAA all-time leader in kick return yardage -- meaning that UNC gave up a shit ton of points for a few years AND that he can be Devin Hester on special teams.
No question he would be bette than Nicks if it wasn't for he injury. When he got hurt, he was leading the country in total purpose yds, more than Maclin, no to mention he's faster than Nikcs and runs beter routes than Maclin
Welcome to the Patriots Brandon! Moss, Welker, Galloway and now Tate, thats a STELLAR WR Corp, best in the NFL, Tate is a 1st round talent that wasnt because he was injured, if he comes back healthy, you are looking at a superstar.
No way the Packers have a better WR crew than the Pats, Driver is good, but he's no Moss. Tate will prove to be one of the biggest steals of this years Draft, GO PATS!!!
Brady now has Moss, Galloway, Welker, Watson, Tate---you've got Maroney, Morris, Faulk, Ben Jarv. Green Ellis, and Fred Taylor in the backfield. They might have the best secondary in the league now with Bodden, Springs, Butler, Meriweather, Chung, Sanders, and Harrison? This is the 1989 SF 49ers!
yeah, he was definitely the deep threat (while nicks was the underneath guy, kinda like fitzgerald to boldin). could be prty gud if he keeps up the work
He's definitely a big time hitter he"ll let the reciever catch the ball then just knock his head off. Him and Meriweather are the future. I just hope the Pats can land another linebacker and we'll be stocked.
Can't wait to see him play for NE!! I know he will work his butt off to get back on the field and show everybody why the Patriots took a chance on him...
how fast is he, does anybody knoe his 40 time. Hes gonna learn from the best in the business in Moss, can u say we have our own faster anquan boldin, he reminds me of boldin.
This guy is pretty lucky. If the pats sign him he will have one of the best WR core in the nfl to improve his skills on. Not to mention one of the best QBs passing to him as well. He pretty much has most of his work cut out for him.
To me it seems that he's either going to be a #1 for 7 years for the Pats, or he's going to be on the practice squad in 2 years. Definition of boom or bust.
Here we are, Pats fans. Kinda wondering why they didn't draft a LB in that spot, they have too many WRs as it is. Tate doesn't look fast enough to be an effective NFL punt/kick returner.
Are you kidding? Most of our WR will be retired in a few years... this kid could be our top dog in the future. He could be the next Moss, his injury and pot smoking are the only reasons he wasnt a first round pick.
Whoever gets him is going to get a skill. His speed and athleticism are outrageous. The injury his senior year hurt his status a ton, but he will get drafted. Hakeem Nicks is projected to go first or second round, and he wasnt even the best receiver on UNC, Tate was. This kid is going to make fans happy somewhere.
I have a hard time believing he will drop out of the entire draft when he was projected 2-3 round pick. He's too good to go undrafted. 5th round at worst.
He was never projected 2-3 round pick....he's projected 4-5 round pick. I mean the kid has got MAJOR skill and intangibles. The problem is his work ethic, durability and consistency. Don't get me wrong he is good but not worthy of a 2nd or 3rd round pickup. He is ranked like 16th out of the top 50.
You need to check your facts. There were a number of mock drafts that had him in the 2nd and 3rd round before his failed drug test was released. Many scouting websites had him pegged as a 3rd rounder. I can provide links if you need em...
Nicks is and always has been the better receiver, still had over 900 yards and i think 6 tds last year with Tate, Tate was always the utility guy that can do everything and was coming into his own as a star receiver
man, if he didnt get hurt, he could be a good draft pick. instead, hakeem had to come in who is also a beast. but if they were together against WVU... man....

hes fuckin good.. hopefully vikings can get him in a later round
zumiez101 2 years ago
Whoever gets him is going to get a skill. His speed and athleticism are outrageous. The injury his senior year hurt his status a ton, but he will get drafted. Hakeem Nicks is projected to go first or second round, and he wasnt even the best receiver on UNC, Tate was. This kid is going to make fans happy somewhere.

cowboys are getting him!
rileybr00ks 2 years ago
nah... their saying that since its his first character issue that his stock isnt going to drop that much... he'll probably be a 3rd or 4th rouder
thegreatkg 2 years ago
His stock is about to fall cuz he failed his drug test at the combine...he will most likely be an undrafted rookie free agent.
FidelCashFlow22 2 years ago
I'll bet you my left nut, he'll still get picked up in draft.
BishopRealTalk98 2 years ago
I have a hard time believing he will drop out of the entire draft when he was projected 2-3 round pick. He's too good to go undrafted. 5th round at worst.
CPanthers892834 2 years ago
He was never projected 2-3 round pick....he's projected 4-5 round pick. I mean the kid has got MAJOR skill and intangibles. The problem is his work ethic, durability and consistency. Don't get me wrong he is good but not worthy of a 2nd or 3rd round pickup. He is ranked like 16th out of the top 50.
FidelCashFlow22 2 years ago
You need to check your facts. There were a number of mock drafts that had him in the 2nd and 3rd round before his failed drug test was released. Many scouting websites had him pegged as a 3rd rounder. I can provide links if you need em...

heavyhitterguy 3 years ago
Yea that would be nice, we probably could get him in the 3rd round, we need an good PR/KR
GorillasNdaMidst 2 years ago
Well, Nicks completely exploded this year. Tate is a very nice player though. Whoever takes him in the later rounds will really get a steal.
I've noticed the QB is hella good though. Moves really good in the pocket. avoids the rush. Has a beast arm. He has a future.
cdxxy 3 years ago
if tate was healthy Nicks wouldn't be a high draft pick
GETaLLTV 3 years ago
Nicks is and always has been the better receiver, still had over 900 yards and i think 6 tds last year with Tate, Tate was always the utility guy that can do everything and was coming into his own as a star receiver
shiggityshwo 3 years ago
man, if he didnt get hurt, he could be a good draft pick. instead, hakeem had to come in who is also a beast. but if they were together against WVU... man....
pizzaguns5 3 years ago
Yeah, he will get picked up late and be a steal
foxfire1112 3 years ago
I hate he got hurt for the year, it really put a damper on UNC offense this seaspn.

This kid is an absolute BALLER.
He is a threat to score every time he touches it, and Shoop is going to give him every chance to be the next big thing at Chapel Hill.
