  • He's my granddads uncle

  • This was interesting, especially in colors

  • You mean Italy's official film, don't you?

  • That was sport and only sport....but still now track is one of the most human sport

  • Прекрасная эра спорта.Без стеройдов и анаболиков.Спортсмены побеждали исключительно за счёт тренировок и способности организма.Очень жаль,что это время ушло безвозвратно.

  • Can I purchase or download a full version of the 1948 XIV Olympiad film?

  • So glad I could see this over half a century later. Good job Uncle Barney, 2nd place is not too shabby

  • Thanks for posting. I love the simplicity and purity of these games. Just gutsy no-nonsense athletes making a go of it. Jolly good show, old chap.

  • bellissimo

  • I am trying to see the full length film for research purposes. Can you point me in the right direction to be able to see the full length copy? Many thanks Jackie

  • LaBeach was special.

  • Great video, thanks for sharing. ^ _ ^

    Harrison Dillard is a legend.

  • how in the world is this in colour?

  • Because color motion pictures were decades old by 1948.

Very interesting technical detail here. The grass is green in the opening and closing ceremony, but light-cyan in the footage of the athletic events.

This is because the ceremonies were filmed in three-strip Technicolor. But the athletic events were shot on two-color bipack film. In fact, notice that there is no green at all in the film of the athletic events.

  • Truely awesome, thanks very much for uploading.

  • I was taken by my grandfather as a little girl of four to this ceremony. He was the chief accountant of Wembley Stadium at the time and said it was important that I should go. I sat just behind the King. I remember the pigeons, thousands, just after war so I think Trafalgar Square was raided! I still have the programme. I don't think UK won anything! I think the simple opening is still impressive. It rained a lot and many sports were badly attended. My father took many of the photos.

  • This is awesome history. Thank you for sharing!

  • Wonderful stuff...!!!.

Does anyone know where I can buy the DVD ?,...with Italian or English commentary.Thanks.

  • Nice one!!! BTW, can u pls upload the parade of nations of 1948 Olympics, pls?
