Прекрасная эра спорта.Без стеройдов и анаболиков.Спортсмены побеждали исключительно за счёт тренировок и способности организма.Очень жаль,что это время ушло безвозвратно.
I am trying to see the full length film for research purposes. Can you point me in the right direction to be able to see the full length copy? Many thanks Jackie
Because color motion pictures were decades old by 1948.
Very interesting technical detail here. The grass is green in the opening and closing ceremony, but light-cyan in the footage of the athletic events.
This is because the ceremonies were filmed in three-strip Technicolor. But the athletic events were shot on two-color bipack film. In fact, notice that there is no green at all in the film of the athletic events.
I was taken by my grandfather as a little girl of four to this ceremony. He was the chief accountant of Wembley Stadium at the time and said it was important that I should go. I sat just behind the King. I remember the pigeons, thousands, just after war so I think Trafalgar Square was raided! I still have the programme. I don't think UK won anything! I think the simple opening is still impressive. It rained a lot and many sports were badly attended. My father took many of the photos.

Thanks for posting. I love the simplicity and purity of these games. Just gutsy no-nonsense athletes making a go of it. Jolly good show, old chap.
