@haimasoph, some quick research on wikipedia revealed that Arkansas was formed from part of the Louisiana Purchase. I didnt research any further than that so it is quite plausible the author of this song is correct. My research in the article also mentions cotton being picked in Arkansas.
On our way back home today to San Antonio TX from Leakey TX we saw some cotton fields. It was an awesome sight. It brought this song to mind so I had to look it up.
I would never had thought some gov'ts. force children to pick cotton,....back durin' the Great Depression, my maternal grandpa, grandma, aunts, uncles and mom(8)would all pitch in and help harvest the cotton, besides other chores to do down on the farm,...guess the BIG difference here is Gov'ts. forcing kids vs. kids helpin' their folks out. Thumbs up to ya haimasoph and thankin' ya for the AWESOME post! = )
Sure you know Tesla AMPLIFIED the song in a cover B side, I found it on cassette single, used. Didn't know it was CCR, just like before, Little Suzi is a Tesla COVER of PH.D band with little known about them!
Thank you for posting. The history was interesting!!I have these at the end of my block!!I A machine picks them after they are sprayed with defoliant!!I LOVE THE SONG,but I think the modern way of farming is not healthy!!!I guess no one wants to pick them anymore. That time is gone!!So only through your pictures can people relive the past!!!
Mi favorita !!!

Gotta love CCR, easily one of the best rock bands ever. Puts all that "new rock" crap to shame.
