Thank you so much! this saved me cash that i didn't want to spend! Kudos! now if only we could figure out how to do the same thing with a set of audio cables and a headphone jack to make that whole stereo sound set-up
An old keyboard DIN plug fits right into the genesis. The positive signal wire is the green wire, the one that's without a protective coating is your negative.
Ahhh crap I meant to hit pause and in a rush hit the freaggin' 1 star rating by accident! Dammit! NOT a 1 star.... no no! Awesome vid and this simple idea gets the job done. I was lucky enough to find the AV cable with a model 1 MD I found cheap one day.
LOL yeah I've done that before. I don't think it will effect the over all rating anyhow. That's WAY awesome to find that cable in the wild. So far best I've seen is around $10 on ebay. But since I have everything I need besides a 5 pin din I could make a better cable for a buck or 2. But this is good enough for now lol.
Nice work! I have a cable that came with my Sega Master System that plugs in where you put the paper clips and the other end are AV cables. It's not stereo sound though.
Yeah, 2 channel mono. There is only one pin for the sound. The only way to get stereo sound from the model one is to use the headphone jack. What you got is a scart that has two connections to the one audio pin that will produce two channel mono. The model 1 has 8 pins; red, green, blue, 5v, sync, comp video, mono audio and ground. Now if you have a model 2 then you should be able to get stereo from the back. But it will not be as high quality as the model 1.
Yea dude I know this information model 2 has far worse quality sound, i have amodel one and a model 2. the scart cable I have has the headphone jack connected to the cable, the pin for the mono sound aint there, i get stereo sound through the front jack via the scart cable, plugs n the back and the front.
Great lengths? Did you see how easy this was? This is for people that don't want to wait to get the cable from ebay and don't want to pay top dollar for a product that they can make their selves out of stuff sitting around the house. With a 5 pin din connector, the stuff in the this video and a soldiering iron/soldier, I can make a BETTER product then what you can get on ebay!
OH, yeah I don't understand that. I did have a rant about that in the video but had to take it out because of time. But yeah I agree. People hack and slash their consoles for no reason! I like to keep my console original as possible.
Yeah now that's a mod worth doing! But A/V mods for the Genesis are unnecessary since the great people over at Sega thought of everything. Personally I would rather have a MD and a Genesis since I have a monitor that will accept either of them.
I for sure need another Sega CD. But I wouldn't use the model 2 for your primary unit. The sound isn't as good. I'm getting a scart cable here soon myself. I have a TV that will work with it.
what might be a good idea is once you have all the pins right, make the connector more permanent by using plumbers epoxy or hot glue to make sure it doesn't come apart and it will look a little bit nicer. especially if your going to be using it long term.
As long as you don't move the console around I think you should be fine. If I were to go long term then I would just get a 5 pin din and soldier the ends into that. Super pro and cheaper than shipping alone from ebay. Well, if you have a soldiering iron and soldier that is. The 5 pin din will cost like $1.50-$2.00 depending on where you get it.
Thank you so much! this saved me cash that i didn't want to spend! Kudos! now if only we could figure out how to do the same thing with a set of audio cables and a headphone jack to make that whole stereo sound set-up

Thanks, works perfectly! Now I don't have to worry about compatibility for ages.
ps. I think an old keyboard DIN might only fit a megadrive 2 / Genesis 2.

great help this video thankyou for posting it, you saved our console from being unusable, thanks again :-)

The paper clip is definitely superior to any RF connection.

I just made this cable after getting a genesis with no cables at my local salvation army store.
It works great in combo with my universal AC adapter. Thank you so much!

Cool! Just got my Mega Drive model 1 today and made a cable like this for it. Much better than the RF Out.

Very informative as always bro. I'll have to try doing this.

I did something very similar to this today with my genesis. Except i just used the model 1 a/v cables with a y adapter in the headphone jack.
TheUnbiasedGamer 2 years ago
The actual Sega a/v cable or some after market from ebay?
sinistermoon 2 years ago
After market but it looks better then my genesis did as a kid and when i used that damn rf adapter.

Funny I mentioned this cable in my Genesis review but had to cut it out because of the time frame. Excellent cable and highly recommend it.
( Works great with Sega master system too ! )

The Genesis model 1 only does stereo via the headphone jack. I'm sure you know that. I just like talking about Sega lol.

Segas cool dude, jsut got a scart cable from console passion for £15.00, worth the money has L/R channel sound through the jack as well.

nar its all model 1 stuff,,, but i mean it goes from a model 1 din out,, to the input on the 32x,, then out of the 32x into the tv,,
then audio comes from the mega cd,,
