  • I bet those dance moves get old if you can't do it in a church ruin with dramatic gliding camera shots :P

groovy little song though, I like

  • These ladies are hot.

  • The Flirtations were awesome. Incredible voices/musicians made this song great!

  • God, I love soul.

  • Another super hit from the late, great 1960's !!!!!

  • Whers my M16 1960 usmc and killing gooks

  • I came here expecting a gay male acapella group. Imagine my surpri... oh, nevermind. I already used that joke when I ended up on that other video.

  • @therandomdot Ha Ha Ha Ha. Love those British horns. Days gone by...sigh.

  • The lead singer is really cute!! Great song too!

  • and to think the kids get to listen to crap present day

  • Thank you so much,petecb67.

  • @SweetNightmares100 Thank you.

  • Wow, does this song ever bring back the memories!

Note to screwface1011: this song came out in 1969.

  • There was a group from SC called the The Gypsies, who later renamed themselves the the Flirtations. Is this the same group?

  • anyone know what year this came out?

  • OMG I love it I grew up listening to this!! this is why I love You tube!! thanks for posting

  • Tintern Abby in Wales....

The Flirtations had to move to the UK in the sixties, to get away from the Supremes...

  • listen to those strings northern at its best

  • i like this song is just good

  • right on!! Oh I remember!!

  • WOW!!!!

  • Wow incredible vocals. Incredibleeeee.

  • You cannot download this 6.08 minute video. It downloads, but you get no sound. Why?? I want to put that song on my IPOD> How do I do it?

  • Awesome music. They call these days of the past "the good old days" for a good reason.

  • This was when music was music. Not the stuff that is released today.

  • If Art Bell played this on his radio show I don't think I would of never heard of it.

Now it's in my "Favorites". He now is officially gone gone from "CoasttoCoastAM"

You will be surely missed Art

  • These ladies owe alot to ART BELL for playing this song as bumper music on his show.

  • Incredible song, video and singers!!!

Love that six note introduction !!!

I'm old enough to have been alive when this was a hit - June 1969.

I just graduated high school and this song was a hit.

Had I passed away at that very moment, I felt I would have lived a full life!

If any of you have access to a piano, those six notes are

    A, C, C, G, D, D

Try playing it - sounds great doesn't it?

  • Damn, even Wordsworth would dig this!

  • You know...this video is right on par with how videos today are shot. The transitions are awesome as the camera passes the ruins and reveals the girls on the opposite side of the walls....not only that...but the editor was able to maintain perfect rhythm with the soundtrack.

This was not an easy task back then.....AWESOME VIDEO!!! AWESOMER SONG...uh...yeah...awesomer!!!

  • Someone wrote this is what The Supremes would sound like if they allowed Florence Ballard to sing. This song rocks though. Surprised that oldies radio don't play it more.

  • sexy bellbottoms

  • This is great - I love that northern soul 'big' sound

    I would guess something like 1969 ?

  • This is great

    I would guess something like 1969 ?

  • Also, if you like this, check out "Tell Him - The Exciters", a similar sounding 60s soul group with a kick-ass lead singer.

  • Great song -- peculiar setting. Could have been a promo for one of those old Hammer horror flicks like "Blacula".

  • timeless pop! love the intro. inthe early seventies they had a song called " dirty work " does anyone have this?

  • Wow : ) : ) : ) I love this.

  • love this song!

  • How many people watched this because of Art Bell?

  • @StanBennet I just stumbled upon this, courtesty of randomness, so I don't know who Art Bell is.

  • @StanBennet

    ME!!!!!!

  • cool

  • I remember this song from way back and cool to hear and see this video.

  • no worry about the clip and the ladys...

the sound is where its all about on the mediumwave!

  • Wow, these three are so sexy, cute and downright beautiful and the music just accents their perfection. G0d bless em.

  • Man I love those Flares!!!

  • excellent track overlooked by the british record buyers...i first heard this on 'WORLD OF..' SERIES album by decca...great stuff

  • Love the song, and those girls are Hot!

  • Thank you, Art Bell

  • i <3 <3 <3 heartache teardrop all the way

  • Thanks heaps for posting - what a great clip! It's really rare to see clips using dolly tracks (ie - the camera moves around the performers but is not hand held) from this time. And of course, what a song - sensational! Loved it.

  • This blows Motown out of the water! Ok maybe that was too harsh to say because the Funk Bros were masters but this is 1970 Northern Soul at it's best! I remember the Philadelphia PA stations playing this around 1970, it was on the Deram/London label in the states.

  • Elephant Pants! :)

    They look like goddesses!

  • What this written by the monks Henry VIII expelled from Tintern Abbey????

  • I was searching for this Song 19 jears!

    5*

  • I love the way that female soul singers actually have proper female bodies with curves (and I say that as a busty female who isn't a size 8). We need them around performing in this day and age.

  • These girls were beautifull,,long legs and the hair,,wow. Are they still around?? I remember this all over the radio on WAKY in Louisville. Seems like it was the late spring or summer if memory serves,,but i was only about 5 when I remember it. Truly a great soul song,,thank you very much for letting me hear it again !! Jeff K.

  • This is a great looking video for its time.

  • I don't care what Connell say's, this tune has to be one of the all time great Northern Soul classics..."The wall of sound"..Bumper music used on the Art Bell show...

  • This is brilliant!

  • this is amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • i used to go to tintern abbey as a kid in the early 70s...wish i`d been there the day they filmed this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no this was filmed in tintern abbey in wales. i'm from coventry looks very much like our beloved cathedral! at least we have a new one!!!!

  • it was filmed in tintern abbey in wales but i'm from coventry and it looks very much like the ruins of our once great cathedral! at least we have another!

  • This song was a fragment on an 8-track that I taped in the '70's...by chance put NOTHING BUT A HEARTACHE in the search and thank you for posting it and solving this mystery song for me!

  • No ~ surely that Coventry cathedral after the Germans bombed the hoots out of it ! You could see the fires in the sky from 50 miles away..

  • SOUL, I saw something saying this is Tintern Abbey they are dancing around.

    Is that correct?

  • Looks lke they are dancing around the ruins of some great historical Church.

    I like it.

Symbolic. The relationships the girls have are in ruins.

  • Honey their relationships might be in ruins but they are certainly putting on a brave face in those jumpsuits!!! You go girls!

  • "putting on a brave face in those jumpsuits"

The way they were moving their bodies, I didn't notice the faces that much.

  • It's interesting to take note that despite all of the American "girl" groups that became popular in the 1960's (the Supremes, the Shangri-Las, the Shirelles, the Ronettes, Martha & The Vandellas, etc.) the first & truly only "girl" group (unless you count the Exciters' Scopitones -- which I don't quite because of the male member of that group), of the decade, to get a promotional music video would be this British "girl" group the Flirtations.

  • the flirtations were from south carolina

  • This is truly a great, great sound. Such melodic intensity, with the vocals and the arrangement in perfect synch.

  • Has a little "Hard Day's Night" video feel to it...

  • ISN'T IT GREAT!

  • Oh I remember the Flirtations and this song but I never thought I would find it here on YT. Thanks!!

  • It does'nt get any better than this!

  • Great

    Retro of the highest

  • What a fantastic Song. Just Priceless

The 60's is the best Decade in Music.

from the Wall of Sound to this great Song.

    Thank you for the listing.

    God Bless

  • Highly underrated song and vocal group. The Flirtations are goddesses and sing like angels. The video clip is surreal. This goes waaay Beyond the Valley of the Dolls!

  • 'top of MY pops'
