Are streetfighters slightly slower than "faired" bikes?

Not really, they are faster of the lights till speeds like 70-75mph because they are lighter and then faired bike will thrash it at highers speeds cause of aerodynamics and will lose less speed when wind is stronger.. so if you want bike for acceleration get unfaired, if for stability at higher speeds get faired one but gs500 is quite a lumpy bike. just a twin cylinder bike so let it pull away faster in my opinion :)
