  • what the fuck are you talking about... fish eat fish lions eat antelpoe what the fuck, your an idiot ... and morrisey eats cock meat sandwiches... but i still like this song

  • I love the smiths and morrisey. The songs are outlandish, wonderful and name your adjective. I could not care less if morrisey is a vegan. Fish eat fish. lions eat antelope.

    it's a good song.

  • does anyone else find this song extremely depressing...in a good way? lol

  • Of course you sac! That's why it's so good.Un like the crap music today which has no feeling.

  • Why is the Album called "Meat is Murder". Was this one of the first band that started the vegan movement?Any background info from fans, plz?

  • Because Morrissey is a well known vegi. The rest of the band weren't, though.

  • i think a good song for someone like kanye to sample would be God off of Johnny Fru's latest and greatest...it just struck me as such after like the third time I was listening to it. Marr appears on a song and has a really strange but cool solo. This video right here reminds me of the bitch girlfriend in the wedding singer. lol

  • how come no rapper err some one sampled this??

  • MORRISSEY & JOHNNY MARR...AN INCREDIBLE COMBINATION!!

Although this song gets copied by imposters and wanna-be's...NO ONE will EVER come close to the AWESOME sound that these guys had!!

This is one absolutely INCREDIBLE piece of music!!

  • yes indeed this is good :D

  • RETRO ACTIVE IS COOL!

  • Back in ancient times (1985)...I was the dj for "new wave night" at the pub on my college campus. I'll never forget how the place would just explode when I would play this at the end of the night. Massive. I also loved playing "Help You Ann" by the Lyres after it, and getting folks to keep dancing to a band they had never heard of...

  • Hells Yes, good retro song and still loved by many!!!!!!!!1

  • Anyone know who the girl is in the video? She looks familiar from somewhere...

  • looks like an old model

  • She's probably in her mid to late forties

    by now.

  • she looks a bit like Billy Piper don't you think?

  • I agree, Johnny Marr is amazing

  • best opening riff here.

  • i love paradise lost version and its fucking metal

  • Morrisey rules !

  • this song just never gets old....my favorite of all time

  • this song would go good with the film watchmen

  • Classic song. Too bad it spawned so many awful covers. The original is the best by far. Love this song!

  • who is the girl?????

  • she won't still look like that you know

  • That version on charmed hurts the ears, and that show hurts the eyes

Shannon Doherty too; gag, an all around assault of the senses.

  • heh heh heh. nice one.

  • lol thank god people with sense.

  • nice video mixes.. replays so old.. hahahaha

  • yes, it is the charmed theme song, but love spit love copied it ....

  • Reminds me of the early 80's riding around in Hollywood, CA with my friends smoking clove cigs & drinking cheap beer!!

    THE SMITHS ROCK

  • love it teenage years and at uni after a great night out listening in my room.

  • isnt this the charmed theme song?

  • Yup.

  • fantastic song!!!!

  • This is INCREDIBLE!! Leave it to Morrissey & Marr to come up with a banging tune like this!!

LOVE that guitar vibrato via the Fender Twin Reverbs!! It really gives the track a totally unique sound!!

    STONKING!! 5/5!!

  • Love the Smiths...

  • Like the song but can't stand Morrissey. Not only is he Egotistical he falsely claims to be from Salford and thats unforgiveable!

  • i remember hearing this song as a kid from my big brothers girlfriend , they were in high school 1990 ,91 and i didn't care for it but now every time i hear this song it takes me back ..... i always agree that MUSIC IS A TIME MACHINE / 1.21 JIGAWATTS.......IM OLD

  • Alas, I am not a Smith. But I love the

song. Seems like the theme song to Charmed.

Something about flying in airplanes with

a secret stash of yogurt hidden in the

    overhead compartment....?????

  • It is the song From charmed, well the original, not some american boy band jonas brothers pussy version. this is the original and best

  • ssuck on ma black balls

  • God dancing to this was the shit back in 1989. This is seminal.

  • I had sex with morissey. His giant schlong penetrated my unsuspecting arse. I will never have sex that good again.

  • why cant music be this good nowadays? plain and simple, why?

  • Cos 12 year old girls wouldn't buy it.

  • my 12 year old daughter loves this - blame the charmed ones...

  • It can be this good again but it would mean a new scene, a new trend and for every artist and every label to change their music. One band couldnt do it alone, if one band came out with music of this standard today people would see it as old rubbish and nt hop enuff, on the other hand if every band did it, it would be seen as cool.

  • oh stop being so old

  • im 16.

  • woohoo, gone over a million!!!!

  • I like this song. It's probably the only song that has identical verses yet I still like it.

Anyone heard the version of this song by t.A.T.u.? It's pretty nice too, I think I almost like it a bit more, the lyrics come out a bit more uniform.

  • this is the song that got me started on the smiths

  • can still listen to this song all over again..

  • Omg i'm freaked out, this song give me the creeps

  • Best song ever.

  • How can we get to the original?

  • Actually, if you like the guitar riffs, you should listen to the original version. It gives it to you 7 minutes straight! I had many trips on this song. What kind of trips? One never tells! Fucking awesome!

  • this song makes me feel magical and mysterious, but way before it was used on that show and only if i don't actually pay attention to the lyrics. that's the beauty of the smiths!

  • This song takes me back to college...

Val, where are you? I miss you.

  • At least this version didn't have the audio ripped out. Fracking corporations. You gain nothing by your actions....

  • that song blew me away, fucking awsome

  • This song is absolutely fantastic!

  • youtube shows todays culture, before you get the smiths/roses through typing you get the script what a joke

  • This song is the anthem of the Eighties Era.

What a ride we all had!!!!

  • A true classic...Mona Lisa of 80's rock...the sound is so unique that befits the cold industrial english town in the video...Yet, while it sits on your heart, it rocks!

  • Hauntingly great track which highlights the true genius of The Smiths. Morrissy and Johnny Marr,I worship at your temple and weep openly at your wonder.

  • Vanessa...

  • MORRISSEY & JOHNNY MARR: WHAT AN INCREDIBLE COMBINING OF TALENT!!

To me there IS NO OTHER version of this track!! Anyone who attempts it just ends up looking like fools! (ie: tATu, etc)

    You can't copy perfection...

  • Stonking good track!!

Love those Fender Twin Reverbs kisckin that guitar vibrato throughout the song!!

I'm sure YT will take this song away, just like they have SO many of lately! Assholes.

Enjoy it while you can, mates!

  • I will be so pissed they have been taking Red Hot Chilli Peppers Songs off to GIRR!

  • I FEEL YOUR PAIN, MATE!!

  • feel ur pain mate

came out gay at 13 & got thrown out

to the streets of dublin but now i'm

strong 1 life live it. :)

  • I remember crying the first time I heard this as a closeted gay teen (23 years ago), and I still have a special feeling inside my very soul every time I hear it. Toodles

  • how did I forget about the hair?

  • Johnny Marr rulez!

  • I just love this group, but Marrs guitar skills appeal to me; i wish i could play this song as good as he can :P

  • I'm 15 again every time I hear this. No mistaking that sound...when exactly do you mean...see I've already waited too long and all my hope is gone...

  • cslatr yeah I know just what you mean.

  • Awesome band, Awesome Chick in clip :D and awesome song

  • I would love to find out how to use the reprise at 2:05 to become my ringtone. Does anyone know how to take your favorite part of a song and create a download???? Any links to suggest??

  • Great song, only now appriecating The Smiths. Re: making a ringtone, get the MP3 of your fave song and edit it in "Audacity"- free software. You can set fade in and fade out and save 20 or 30 secs easily, then copy to your phone for much kudos.

  • I was 16 years old when I first heard this song and I never recovered. Check out Morrissey's new tune, "When I Last Spoke To Carol." Somewhere across the universe it is number one on the Planet Mearth.

  • This is one of the most original guitar arrangements in the history of rock..... Thank you Johhny Marr!!

  • Thats wierd. Getting snubbed for complimenting someone.

  • iam human and i need to be loved just like everybody else does

  • I like this song with paradise los :P

  • Funny, I read an interview with Morrissey and he said he was vegetarian since he was 11 or so, and was always aware of animal rights.

  • I love this fucking song so much, it's to beautiful. This is the group that made me get messed with when I was a teen in the eighties. A black skin listening and lovin the Smiths, what, they wanted beat my butt. If you younger cats could understand how stuff started to unite back then, it was the greastest thing. Being able to hang out with cool ass white kids, defying social conditions from the 60 and 70's. That shit was great, peace and love to the next generation! Keep progressing, Oi!

  • Taocircle, your comment almost made me cry! It's hard to explain what it was like back then. Being a young Hispanic girl in inner city Chicago, listening to the Smiths was like treason back then. I used to get picked on a lot. But I also made friends of every creed and color in HS because of the same music.

  • Thank you, it's great hearing someone that went through the same as me. And the only thing that stop me from beating people ass back then for labeling me a sell out, was for the fact that my parents would've put me in reform school (they hated the fact I like that music also). It's not our faught that we look at someone for who they are not for what they appear to be. Plus, they made great music and I love music. Great progress in your life.

  • being hispanic male in san antonio i was called hoto and fag for my devotion to Morrissey and the Smiths. It all paid off everyone loves this song now.

  • Funny that you were harassed for liking the Smiths, lol. Bet those dumb asses that called you names were closet homos themselves!! Screw 'em!! Bands come and go, but The Smiths and Morrissey are anomalies and its small minded people that cannot appreciate the good things in life...

  • what year is this from?

  • from the 80's. best years of music

  • 1985

  • mmmm thats when i was born

  • 1985, meat is murder, best album ever, by the best band ever

  • Why did it say meat is murder at the start......

  • morrisey said back in the day that he wasn't a vegiterian and wasn't particually concerned about animal right causes at the time. he just liked the way that 'meat is murder' sounded/

  • Meat is Murder is the title of the Smiths album on which this album appeared.

  • erin...you have got to be kidding! this version is the only version!! start exploring musical history of when this song was released(the 80's). you'll learn something about music. Dont get locked into your age group's musical style! go back and learn something about other generations(70's 80's,90's) and you'll learn that musical history repeats itself. (sorry about the lecture)!! Bottom line, The Smiths!!!

  • Your ignorance is astounding. Modern music is as relevant now as the music of the 90's still is. Erin simply stated her opinion, which happened to be that the Tatu version appealed more to her. I happen to like both versions, though I like The Smith's version more. Regardless, there's no need to rush in on your high horse and tell other people what's better than what. Everyone has preferences, and there's nothing wrong with the style of music. Music is art, art is always changing. Accept it.

  • Erin clearly discounted the original version and even stated her preference is based on having "got used to it", so it might be prudent for you to first read through both hers and micros before labeling someone ignorant.

bus had a perfectly valid point, albeit salient - don't get locked into one period's stylings *especially* if that period's music is essentially only stylings. Sometimes invest a little interest in the progenitors and enjoy! Art changes, yes. "Old" art shouldn't be ignored.

  • You really are a waste of fucking space

  • this song hits me like a nail thru the fuckinf head.....brilliant!!!

  • brilliant song...very deep lyrics..so many times i've heard this on the radio..the first time i heard it, i instantly fell in love with it...it's almost like a lullaby to me..gives me a comforting feeling

  • When I first heard it I shat my pants.

  • Now why arent his songs in Rock Band or Guitar Hero??????

  • Loving the tremolo.

  • the lyrics are freaking deep

    i love it.

  • mtv sucks big hairy sweaty balls

  • I give ou this is old..... BUT you can't deny the impact of this song. It still rocks and is the basis for many bands today.

  • Drummer was a bit lazy on this track

  • Morrisey can kick your fanny!

  • I love depressing songs.

  • Wouldn't that pretty much make you an emotional person then = emo ??

  • nitorknotty you fucking idiot the smiths are the ultimate band and i mainly like music that is nothing like them hardcore ect

  • Gosh, they need to bring the tube back. That program kicked MTV's ass.

  • this video is so awsome i always listen to it but it is kinda weird

  • pure genius

  • ignore your neighbours

  • this is no crap.

learn to spell before you give your criticisms you fucking prick.

that's not to say that NIN is bad, I like them.

but you look like a Fucking Idiot.

  • deftones should do this verbatim err however u spell it

  • Drive like a rapist, think like a Nun

Does these things, and you'll really have fun

  • Takes me back to the nights of dancing like a ragdoll and pursuing depths of the soul--thought we could find it... freaking classic!

  • Dont eat muscles!

  • Meat is murder :))) God bless him

  • Jonny Marr

    awesome

  • I love the video, the song, & the HAIR :) Z

  • i want die to this tune!!!!

  • just keep referencing the smiths to garbage.....

    makes sense to me

  • if you like this song you cant stop playing it

  • Crashing bores, I mean ~!

  • Hell, not an easy way to fit in.

if this is the way to enjoy, this

world must be full of crasing bores.

    God bless Mozza we rejoy!

  • I like the guitars, remind me of Garbage

  • you mean garbage reminds you of the smiths....

  • I am sure they were an influence on Garbage's sound.

  • Has anyone heard the Snake River Conspiracy cover of this? It's very different but very good. This IS very good too!

  • Snake River Conspiracy did a half decent cover of this song

  • unmistakable intro

  • hey asshole if you think the smiths are crap then fuck off nobody wants to hear your ignorance so shut up

  • Yeah, you tell him.

  • Jesus- could you imagine hearing this live,in a muddy field, sun setting, original members, forget blur reforming or even the stone roses(god love 'em)this (the smiths) would be the hottest ticket in town, no contest!lets have a heated debate.

  • No debate, you're abolutely right!

  • you have no tast for the clasics

why do you think sooo many have tried to make remakes!

it's ok if you like the love spit love version better but do you have to call it crap!

  • His own videos consist of 'Naruto' stickmen fighting and footage from Runescape. Go figure :/

  • Yeah!

    no wonder! LOL

  • LMAO you win

  • Fuck off you idiot

  • lol always reminds me of charmed

  • when was this song released? it beats the hell out of all the trash thats in the charts today.

  • i thinks 80s

  • It was released in 1984, and it does indeed surpass most of what's on the air these days. There was an intelligent restraint in this sort of music that doesn't exist these days, and this is just better produced, if you ask me. You can hear every little detail, as opposed to most modern stuff that gets all garbled in shoddy recording and MP3 compression.

  • This song really reminds me of Gary Numan...

    Any one else think that?

  • aaahhhhhhhhhhh the MOD movement from the early to mid 1980s. I loved it. I grew up in the 1970s in rural Alabama and this movement was a breath of fresh air - The Smiths / underground culture!!!!!!!! black trench coats, boots, barea, vintage broaches, crucifix, asymmetrical bobs, the ecletic club scene in Birmingham, Alabama (circa 1983).

  • perfekt

  • the girl in the video is so beautiful
