every dollar used to clean his graffiti off the public sidewalks and traffic devices, is a dollar that cannot go, for education, meals for children to poor to buy their own, elder care ect... what makes this guy think his art is so important, that others must pay the price for his medium?
Actually, money was paid to have this put on the sidewalk in the first place - it is a publicly commissioned work. And it's still there under the snow, ice, salt and gravel at Ste-Catherine and University.
well that's fine... but not all his works were commissioned... did he pay the tax payer for that? I don't think so. Well, I think the hammer of law beat that out of him and his doing what other artists have to struggle to do, but responsibly.
@Elenkhos Why waste money cleaning paint? A little paint doesn't hurt anyone. Maybe if its offensive it should be removed, but his art is such simple symbols such as zippers, shark fins, that it isn't harmful to anyone. Why waste money and trees on a canvas, when there are blank walls all around us?
Sure there are graffiti artists out there who will write offensive things, solely for the point of shock, but why should we be cleaning wonderful art off walls if it doesnt hurt anybody?
@Ilovetocuddle Because,he is defacing traffic controle devices, which by law cannot be altered to be enforced. If I paint a symbol on a stop sign, that stop sign by law becomes null, it cannot be lawfully enforced, so the city must replace it with a new costly sign because federal law requires it, so every time this shit bag paints on cross walks, a traffic control device, it has to by law be replaced and that costs tax dollars to do.If you want to paint, by your own materials.
@Vajrayana514 Well, um public money is not infinite, and when ugh assholes decide to make ugh public traffic control devices their canvas, that costs money because federal law requires that no traffic device be ugh.... defaced otherwise it is not considered a valid device. It costs on average $1500 to put in ONE stop sign in.It has to be bought, labour to be places, and a traffic survey must be done to validate it's presence, very expensive, and ugh buy your own canvass like a big boy.
@Vajrayana514 You know Vaj... I'm a successful artist. I have sold works to large corporation, I'm hung in a museum, and I sell privately to dealers in New York, who fly to my city to buy my paintings and then fly back. Telling me the city allows this guy to do this is a load of shit.Because the city CANT give him permission to do this. These traffic control devices are federally controlled. It is illegal to deface them, even the city, can't deface them legally. So go fuck yourself.
@Elenkhos I know you posted this a year ago. But i think its the city's fault not his. He makes beautiful non offensive pieces of art which take a boring city and make it wonderful to look at. If the city really wanted to they could have put that money towards good things but they didn't not his problem the city's. Why am i constantly forced to look at corporate or government graffiti or as the public says adds. But a Artist cant post do the same? Its control and hypocritical corruption.
@vinejuli311 Because its not his property, and he does not have a right to draw upon it without permission. And if it is public property, they have to clean it and put it back to code at a very heavy tax payer expsense, by law. If he wants to make art, let him buy his own materials and paint on his own cavas he paid for.
@Elenkhos Well then i guess every coka-cola add you see owns the whole damn city? look i just think its stupid that i have to stare and adds all day in between my shows even and still cant do the same. plus removing graffiti cost much less then you think. a lot less.
@vinejuli311 Who cares how much it costs, it's not your money to spend, even if it only costs one dollar thats theft. However, the average cost to remove graffiti from a cross walk for example is over $2500, with the cost of removal of the graffiti, paint and supplies, staff costs and having to re do a traffic survey by a traffic engineer required by federal law, so stop being a social fuck up just because "you" think it's ok to waste tax dollars that could be spent on lets say the homeless?
@Elenkhos Costs about 100 bucks for a water pressure cleaner that can be mounted on your back then the average price of water to clean it off with pressure. Which for a company and even the city a minimal price. And its not like the city uses the money for much good anyway i know this is Montreal but in the recent G20 summit they put more then a billion to keep people from speaking there mind when that could have gone to homeless which is a big problem in Toronto. But we all have a opinion.

@Elenkhos We've been throwing money at Afghanistan for 9 years now and you're upset over a bit of street art?

@Elenkhos Right, all of these people would be without a job if it wasn't for street artists.
I doubt that Roadsworth is seriously preventing some starving kid from paying off his tuition or whatever.

@Elenkhos I never said he had the city's permission, I'm saying in effect his illegal actions are stimulating the economy, but I will go fuck myself.

@Vajrayana514 Ewww ... did I really say that? I'm sorry. That was rude... I must have been like in really bad mood. Nah don't say that, my bad.
