That's an incredibly large system :D Great sound and it looks soo pretty. Although doesn't that constant fuzz noise (I'm assuming its the cooling system?) a bit of a distraction?
Great amplifier. Nice to see the output stage transformer immersed in oil. What's the frequency response?. Philips made very fine valve radios and amplifiers. Very nice electronics to repair and maintain. Must take care of the lamps, especially the output stage and the rectifiers. Great stuff =o)
Did you replace the valve mercury rectifiers with silicon?. or was it from the factory like this?.That is very neatly done.
If I got one, I would replace the mercury vapour valves in the same way. They dont last long, I know, I used to maintain this kind of equipment in the 1960s. Not Philips ones though.The ones I worked on used MZ2-200 valves as output stage.GU50 rectifiers.
for what was they used for ? Is it like an Vintage PA Amp. Im a PA Fan and i ever asked me how they did concerts in the past. how much does that thing cost?
I have a little Grundig Tubeamp from the Sixtys with 4x EL84. He play but i think something is wrong with the current for the tube heating.
The fans are original. The amplifiers were build in 1955 by Philips in The Netherlands. They weigh 150 kilo each. The work on 380 volts. The are very rare. It was a complete surprise when I saw them for sale on the internet.
The same reason because they are used in this amp .. they got power ;). They are good to get at least the legal limit .. or to use them as a driver stage for a more manly amplifier.
All I have to say is that those are fantastic amplifiers. I love staring at the mercury tube rectifiers. If I were interesting in finding an old amp such as this to restore, where would be a good place to look? In my ECE classes they teach us about modern amplifier and circuit designs but I also want to learn about past electrical designs as well and hopefully would be able to restore something like this in the future.
Yea nice heavy duty commercial gear.

@Nanovirus5995 You are looking at PA equipment, built by Philips in the 50s. It was never meant for private use.

my question is---- if they run on 3 phase power where do you hide your converter?
theTrainmanmec 8 months ago
@theTrainmanmec
In our country you can get 380 volts from the electrical power supply. This can also be used in fabrics witch use heavy machinery.
MrOrf2 8 months ago
@MrOrf2 Lol yeah, I've got 3 phase in my flat. :)
