I think the main singer sings 'funky music' while the background vocals deliberately sing 'fuckin music'. So it sounds like funky and sometimes fuckin. Well, anyway...great song.
i was a freshman in highschool when this came out. heavy assed rotation on the airwaves. still sounds good after 30-something years.
support music ed in our schools so some of these fools won't invest music's direction solely in the sampling method. if not, in 25 years we'll be reduced to moans & grunts...
@clarissa10rocks That happens more often than one might think, To be truthful. The original Blues Brothers was a few musically inclined friends getting together and FARTING AROUND, and look how huge that one was!
Just had to respond to this cause my granddaughter (5) heard this on the radio and loved it. Now every time it comes on we dance to it. Amazing how a song this old would be loved by a 5 year old.
@EmoCandyPop Im Black too and i'm also shocked that the band is all White. I've heard this song so many times, and not once did I suspect that they were not Black! LOL!
I was in high school when this song came out and played it on the jukedbox in our lunch room, the teachers hate this song. I also played You Can Go to Hell by Alice Cooper, they didn't like that either.
It was lunchtime last year in school on one of the last days of the year. The assistant principal got out a cd and played it on the sound system, and this was the first song played. And just like the song says, "they were dancin' and singin' and movin' to the groovin'". Seemed like the whole lunchroom knew at least the first verse. It's awesome how real music is still appreciated, especially in today's society.
This is the extended version, not the original 1976 mix, the vocal track (only the chorus is intact) is not the same. Nice to hear a variation of this song :)
In an interview they said that the "White Boy" was a direct reference to david Bowie who in that period was in he dance charts with Fame and Golden Years.
When this band first came around with this album I honestly thought they were a black band... But when I saw they were white it blew my mind... no offense to any black bands...
I had a band in the 60's-70's and this song was one of our 'go-to-standards's when we wanted the place "TO JUMP"!!! Back then we measured our success (to us was) not by how many we packed in....but rather...How Many We Could Pack on the Dance Floor!!! This song even had the non-dancer's up and 'boogying'!!! Man those were the days......
You shouldn't live in the past.... but you SHOULD enjoy the memories!!!
Regarding the above comment, grandmothers still still get down too!! I have 11 grandchildren and "love" to dance! This song makes me smile and "want" to dance. I dont know how you can listen to this one and "not" want to dance, LOL!!!!
Why did I think this song came out in 2003...? Lol this song was really popular when I was a kid, didn't know it was from the 70s. Makes it even better
Just to make it clear to some on this board...when they said play that funky music 'white boy', it wasn't meant to be an insult. It was meant to be a compliment. It's a way of acknowledging that he may be white, but he's got soul....white on the outside but black (soul) on the inside. Kinda hard to explain. But it was definitely a compliment.
@LongLiveLink3 I respectfully disagree with you Love Link. We live in a seriously butt-hurt age, where everyone's so damn sensitive. The brotha was trying to tell my white brothers and sisters that it was not a perjorative comment.
WHY? Because some people today just don't get it!
Hey, I know we all have our taste, and I won’t try to convince you this isn’t the funkiest bassline ever. However, I’d suggest you try “just kissed my baby” by The Meters, “Darling Dear” by The Jackson 5 (w/James Jamerson on bass), or “Chameleon” by Herbie Hancock (even though it’s not technically a bass, it sure is fonky).
