i'm sure that kariya has been hit harder. he's a hockey player. yes kaleta elbowed him (and i'm a sabres fan) but kariya didn't fall. he continued to play. i'm guessing if this ended his career it was the injury that pushed him over the edge because that was not a hard hit. go talk to savard if you wanna talk about getting hit.

@KdoubleJz he hit him from behing which the position kariya is in, it could have been roughing, boarding, or elbowing. he had 3 different penalties that could have came from that hit so he shouldn't have delivered it. it was dirty, even by NHL rules.

He's had concussion problems since Stevens destroyed him in the playoffs. He missed a lot of time in Colorado because of recurring symptoms from concussions. But, no in St. Louis he didn't have any symptoms until this hit.

Colin Campbell ruled that it wasn't suspension worthy because "The follow through with the elbow was after fist contact. Upon first contact You could not definitively say that Paul was hit with an elbow or just the forearm area"........Campbell hates Kaleta he would never cut him slack

Dirty play anyway you look at it. Poking the puck or lifting the stick is the only thing he could of done there. Other than that if he was trying to get a good hit it would of been boarding since there was distance from the boards.

Kaleta's elbow may have come up some, but he caught Kariya on the back of the shoulder, not the head. I've slowed it down with DVR on my 40". The replays (one of which was not shown here, but was on MSG) clearly showed that he hit his shoulder. He spun Kariya's body, but didn't snap the head.

Kariya came back in and played the last 25 seconds of the PP (still on the PP), including a shot on goal. Had Kaleta hit his head, he would have been down and out.

The slew foot, however ... was one.

Wow, settle down a bit there, TheWhiteFactor. I said his elbow came up and I don't think that any player should do that with or without those hard elbow pads (I play, so I don't have to "take a good look", I can just put mine on.) The announcer said that he elbowed him to the head and I was simply pointing out that he didn't hit him in the head, he hit him in the shoulder. An elbow is bad, but elbowing to the head is a whole other level of dirty.
