  • Woot! Getting addicted to this language... perhaps you could post more verbs and such to give me a headstart with my Dutch :) Keep up the good work!

  • thanks again :) It's totally helping me as I'm on exchange in Maastricht. I should practice that tomorrow when I go shopping :)

  • I am 1/2 Dutch. My paternal grandfather came over to the USA as a child in the earl 1900s. I am interested in learning some Dutch. Please write to me personally regarding this and some other issues regarding my heritage...PLEASE. My name is Susan Nienhuis and my email address is: s.nienhuis@live.com PLEASE contact me. Thank you. I really do want to learn!

  • @WakkoXtreme she and they are both "zij" in the subject position. In the object position it's 'haar' and 'ze/hen' respectively & for possessive "haar" and "hun".

    As for jullie..

    Jullie zijn ziek.

    Ik zie jullie.

    Dat is jullie boek.

  • Dutch is the most beautiful language i've ever heard. Can't wait to visit the netherlands.

  • @acroboyargentina Seriously? I thought everyone hated the Dutch language. It's nice to hear someone likes it though.

  • @MetalCamelChannel Where I live noone has ever heard a single word in dutch so i dont know about other people, but since the day i heard it i've been enthralled by it's sound. (So much that I am planning on studying in the netherlands just to live that language. xD)

  • @acroboyargentina That's great to hear. Good luck.

  • @acroboyargentina I am Brazilian and to me sounds the same. What a beautiful language, it is like poetry.

  • Just out of curiosity, how many languages you speak? Your english is really good by the way and you make dutch sound cute : )

  • You are too cute! Thank you for uploading these lessons, they're helping me a lot with learning Dutch. I'm hoping one day I can move to the Netherlands! :)

  • Ik kwam hier om te kijken hoe mensen les geven in nederlands op 't internet, en ik moet zeggen dat jij echt weet waar je over praat. Je kan goed uitleggen, je uitspraak is perfect, je weet je feiten en regels. In één woord; PERFECT.

Ik weet gewoon zeker dat mensen hierdoor veel beter worden in nederlands.

    Ga zo door ;)

    ~Een nederlander

  • @myrofly Hey, dankjewel :) Echt leuk om te horen!

  • LOL You´re one cute silly girl. But I like the lessons, very helpfull. : )

  • Hartelijk dank voor uw leuke video's! ze zijn zeer behulpzaam! groeten uit Roemenië

  • the word "jij" confuses me because the word "jeg" in norwegian is pronounced EXACTLY the same as "jij" but means " I / me "

  • @MyStuff774 lol, du gjør livet vanskeligere for deg selv.. hvorfor er du forvirret? er jo bare å tenke at det "høres ut som" som en huskeregel :) Lykke til

  • this link is not working full

  • Ik ben

    Jij bent

    Uncle Bens

  • @iratus1337 :D

  • Hi my name is Ledewij Daj Oranje, I am African American teen, Ik ben 19 jaar oud, i have been learning Dutch from your videos for 4 weeks, this is the first and most easiest language i have ever known. Your videos have inspired me to keep learning Dutch, Right now I am stuck and need your help! I want to learn how to write Dutch words and sentences. It would be great if you made a video about that.

  • Awsome !!!!!!!!!

  • hi, i'm a exchange student from Hong Kong to Belgium for 1 year

and now, i learn dutch for 3 weeks...

still sometime, its very difficult to use 'ben' and 'heb'

also, i want to ask why she and they both use 'zij'

and sometime it come a word "ze",

thanks a lot, yr video did help me :)

  • @suzune123 hey! we use "zij" for both SHE (3rd person, female, singular) and THEY (3rd person, plural), same way English uses YOU or both 2nd person singular AND plural. There's really no reason, it just is that way.

As for ZE, usually when saying ZIJ in a sentence, we'll use ZE, unless you're trying to emphasize the word. Same with jij/je and wij/we.

  • @suzune123 "Ben" (ik ben) is a form of "zijn" (to be) as the girls explained. "Heb" (ik heb) is a form of "hebben" (to have). "Zij" can mean "she" or "they". The verb denotes which of the two is meant: zij is (she is), zij zijn (they are). "Zij" is the stressed form, and "ze" is the unstressed form.

  • Super gedaan! Ik heb dit naar mijn Braziliaanse vriend opgestuurd zodat hij -wanneer hij de volgende keer weer in Nederland- is, het makkelijker is voor hem om Nederlands te spreken. Thanks!

  • A good way of learning languages for me is listening to songs, so do you know any dutch songs? :)

  • @CarroAnn sure, search for.. Guus Meeuwis, Marco Borsato, Blof, Nick & Simon. Most of their songs are Dutch :)

  • She has a great personality, she looks fantastic.I think i'm in love.Hoi from New Zealand.

  • I am not sure, but I think I had heard the alternative forms U is and U hebbt. Do these forms exist, even though they are less common?

  • @giorgioxyzb Hey! Those aren't grammatically correct, so no, don't exist :)

  • @dutchforn00bs Actually I just looked it up on taaladvies(dot)net and 'u heeft' and 'u hebt' are both correct. Also on onzetaal(dot)nl they say they actually prefer 'u hebt'. 'hebt' is of course with 1 b though.

  • @P0dex Yes! You are correct :) Both hebt and heeft are correct! Sorry for the confusion earlier :)

  • I love dutch, it´s so easy to understand due to that I speak swedish, german and english! I wanna move to holland and study : ) Would learn this wonderful language in a second!

  • Hey girly, i felt in love with you :D Wonderful work you have done! Proficiat! Prachtig werk, prachtig gedaan, prachtig uitleg! Ik denk dat ik ga je formaat kopiëren en zo video's op youtobe plaatsen met uitleg over het Albanees.

  • @Leoseiti1 cool! Send me a link when you do? :)

  • Comment removed

  • You have great English. Better than most Brits!

  • the introduction part is so funny..Peace Man ^ ^ LOL

  • Tell you what, i'm Dutch but writing Dutch is sometimes confusing like fuck :S

  • Hey! im dutch, but u can speak english so good!

They say that dutch people are bad at english, to you not!

Keep going on with the videos even if im dutch i still like them!

  • @PamoReturns

Who said Dutch people are bad at English??That is ridiculous bcos most Dutch people speak English like native english speakers.....:)

  • @wannaknowit De spraakvaardigheid is anders behoorlijk slecht in de meeste gevallen

  • @Yswafel

Bedankt voor het antwoord, maar ik spreek niet een Nederlandse, ik had je zin vertaald door Google Translator :-))))) Bedoelt u dat mensen in Nederland niet erg enthousiast over het spreken Engels, maar ze zijn bereid als ze aan?Pls write an english answer:-))I wonder how many mistakes google translator made in the previous sentence:))

  • @wannaknowit Most Dutch people aren't so good at speaking English, though most can understand it quite well :) Sorry I thought you were Dutch ;)

  • @Yswafel

No,no I am hungarian:-)))But whenever I heard Dutch people speaking English,I was always amazed by their high level of knowledge and how flawless it was:-) It would be great if that many hungarians were able to speak English at that level:-)Anyway thanks a lot for the comment:-))Have a great day!

  • @PamoReturns It is not true that Dutch people can't speak English that well, most people in Holland like they speak Dutch. I need to speak English and understand English just as good as I speak and understand Dutch for my exams at school.

  • wait i have a question. okay you said that zij means she and zij means they. why are they spelled the same and have the same pronunciation yet they have different meanings?it just seems so confusing!!!!

  • @idkwhou192 It's like in English, where YOU can mean both YOU, PERSON and YOU, GROUP OF PEOPLE. :D.

  • @idkwhou192 Like sie(she)/sie(they)/Sie(polite you) in German ^^

  • @Matthy63 okay and the meaning would depend on the text/words around it right?

  • @idkwhou192

Yeah, pretty much, like she said it's like "you" (sing.) and "you" (pl.) (...and "you" since English doesn't have a separate "polite pronoun" like "u"), or "vous" (pl.) and "vous" (polite) in French.

You can also sometimes guess which is which by the verbal ending (zij heeft / zij hebben), but usually it's whichever makes sense in the given context. ^^'

  • you might want to know this or maybe not...but ij and ei sounds sound like aye with an australian accent....or if you exaggerate the aussie accent....saying how are you going.......how are you going mate(mijt)

  • @MrAdamska1 ohh, I never realized that :D I can see how that'd be true though. That is awesome. :D.

  • ur so pretty!

  • hey.. nice vid. im from indonesia and really interested in dutch. reminds me with my grandma (oma) cause she can speak dutch

  • Damn I Wish I Knew How To Speak English

  • you information was very helpful

    danku! tot de volgende keer!

  • Hi will you be able to tell me how to say " I am learning Dutch" and how to conjugate that verb.

    I thank you in advance

  • @vbereau "Ik leer Nederlands", of "Ik ben Nederlands aan het leren".

  • you are the best

  • Uw filmkes zijn een leuk initiatief! :)

  • @AnanasEple In Flemish, the Dutch spoken in Belgium, we even say Gij/ge instead of jij/je. We don't have that rule that the 't' drops when there is inversion. So in our variation, we say Gij spreekt, spreekt gij. So the 't' remains in inversion. It's not officially recognized but that's how we speak :p

  • could you possible make a video on regular and irregular verbs, because i still dont get it : (

  • @AnanasEple Hey :) For jij/je you add a T, unless it's a question. So:

    Jij spreekt

    but: spreek jij?

For u you always add T (same with HIJ and ZIJ), so:

    U spreekt,

    but: spreekt u?

    Hope that helps :)

  • I just wanted to say "bedankt" for your videos. You have a very nice on-camera presence and I have enjoyed several of your lessons so far, and I plan on watching them all.

    Doei!

  • dank je wel great!!

  • You are so cute ^____^

  • great job!! dankje!!! :))

  • what is the difference between an irregular and regular verb?

  • @caramelbarbee a regular verb follows rules, eg adding S in third person: "I work --> he works & I know --> he knows". Irregular verbs don't follow rules, eg "I am, he IS".

  • I agree,its weird to say " u " against ur parents.

    Goeie uitspraak heb je :)

  • You said I can replace the U with a JIJ, so is it right if i write 'dank jij'? It doesn't sound good :c

  • @Sheisntbreathing You're right, we couldn't say that. The word following "dank" (or "thank" in English) is not a subject, but an object. For example, we say "thank them", not "thank they".

For "u" in Dutch the object and subject versions are the same, so you don't *see* it's the object (not subject). JIJ however, is the SUBJECT only. If you want to use the object version, we say "jou". (Eg: ik zie jou - I see you).

    (to be continued)

  • @Sheisntbreathing "thank you" is sort of a.. short way of saying "I thank you", same in Dutch: Ik dank jou.

But, instead of saying JOU (or JIJ for that matter), we use JE a lot of the time. (Same with ZIJ - ZE, and WIJ - WE). It's a shorter sound, and, idk, just easier I suppose. We use the *proper* form mostly when that specific word (jij, zij) needs to be stressed. Sooo (long story, I know, but I'm getting there): we say "dank JE", not "dank jij" :D

  • @dutchforn00bs Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question :)

  • @Sheisntbreathing actually we don't say ' dank jij', it's quite not usual,

we say; dank je/ dank u

  • @loveemine Thanks (: groetjes uit Chile!

  • @Sheisntbreathing It has to be "dank je"......Jij/ je is practicly the same, with one exception! Jij is stressed! If you say "jij", you are pointing a finger. Witch is not really nececerry if your'e thanking someone.

  • @1987marjo actually, the "je" in 'dank je' does not mean 'jij', it means 'jou' :) you're right about 'jij' being stressed, and 'je' being unstressed, but they're grammatically interchangeable.

  • Thanks for your videos...You are such a good teacher...with a lot of humor! Its pleasure to learn in that way! I am greek, my boyfriend lives in Holland and i am planning to do a master next year in Holland concerning education. Actually, i am in search for that! I have visited Holland many many times and I love it really!!!

  • @Mikriloulou18 That's great! I went to Greece in May and I loved it. I'm glad you love it here, too.. :D

  • awh , btw , can you speak german ? (;

  • @LauraHaveCookies not really. I can understand about half of it, though :p

  • leg je ook de d/t uit, want daar snap ik nog niks van na 6 jaar vwo =P

  • @mu5ic1 haahha, waarschijnlijk niet :D want dat is niet echt nodig voor mensen die Nederlands net leren ^_^

  • I'm supposed to be learning spanish but I can't stick with it because I enjoy the Dutch language so much. Your accent sounds english, sprinkled with dutch. I've heard people with just dutch and just english... Your a hybrid! X[ )!

  • @runescape206 ha. I AM a hybrid :p my dad is English, mom is Dutch :)

  • @dutchforn00bs Thanks for making these videos, at some point I'm going to try and really learn from them:D

  • ahh, thank you <3 If you have any requests or questions let me know :D <3

  • @dutchforn00bs gracias, i mean ,dankje! :D

  • So I can totally call myself a dragon in dutch now. Thanks!

Though I'm sure saying "I am dragon" sounds just as silly in dutch as it does in english xD.

  • Bahahaha :D <3

You should say 'Ik ben een draak'. 'Een' is pronounced kind of like 'an' ;D

  • haha this is so cute :D

i want video responses from english people !!!

    <3<3

  • i have a question is waar gaan wij correct for where are we going or am englishising dutch again?

  • We would say "waar gaan wij heen/waar gaan wij naartoe?" as in.. "where are we going TO".. Just saying 'Waar gaan wij' is a little.. strange ;)

  • Intro was hot!!!!!! (I'm ripping that and making a remix, fa sure)

this sure brings me back to french class (in the name of language learning, cause french is so harsh compared to this) when I was the only boy and the room was filled with hot girls, tho in this case there's only one, wnkbr

ik ben impressed and excited for more!!!

  • hahahahaa xD I'm going to make an entire video like that (BWFNL).. tomorrow.. probably :p So. Any requests? xD xD #wnkbr.

  • Yay for DutchforN00bs! I've wanted to learn Dutch for a while. ^_^

  • Of 'u hebt' :P (maar dat vinnik lelijk klinken)

  • Jaa, ik ook :p xD

  • Oh, you can maybe point out that /hət/ is also an acceptable pronunciation of "het", and that Belgians use that more often (I think?)

  • I'm.. actually.. not sure what you're talking about xD I am sure that I don't know enough about Belgian Dutch AT ALL to say ANYthing about it.. so.. maybe I shouldn't xD

  • Like, pronouncing it with a "doffe e", like in "de"?

  • you say "hut" in stead of "het"? ö

  • What lianne zegt.. je pronounced het "hut"?! xD

    #anotherlifechangingexperience #wnkbr.

  • Ja, tuurlijk. (Assuming you both mean "hut" as pronounced in English and not in Dutch, because then you'd both be crazy)

/hət/ en /hɛt/ zijn allebei acceptabele uitspraken.

  • uhmm.. no.. not English xD I pronounce the e in "de" exactly like the u in (Dutch) "hut".

    wtf, dudes xD

  • You're telling me that if you say "De hut..." that the vowel sounds are completely the same?!?

This is madness! (Feel free to retort with a Sparta joke.)

Anyway, one thing's for sure: next week's gathering is bound to get interesting. ^_^

  • Yesss!!! They're completely the same!! What are you tallking about dude? xDxDxD

  • He's talking phonemes. it's like an alphabet to describe sounds. If you wrote down a word with the normal alphabet, you don't know how to pronounce it. If you wrote down the sounds of the word, you'll know how to pronounce it.

  • Yesss, I know.. but.. he's saying that the 'e' in 'de' and the 'u' in 'hut' are pronounced differently, and I really don't hear it xD

  • AM I GOING INSANE? The /ə/ sound isn't the same as the /u/ sound!

    Pronounce the word "degelijk."

The vowel sounds you use there are /ɛ/, /ə/ and /ə/.

    It's not that difficult :P

  • and it's true... Belgians use 'u' way more often...

  • nice video :)

isn't it hard to switch languages all the time? it always makes me mix things up.

oh and maybe it's easier to put u next to jij? since it's the same verb form :)

  • It does make me mix up sometimes.. but not often :p I switch languages all the time irl too xD #annoying

Oh, and, I thought about that, but decided not to - since I wanted to explain 'u' at the end.. and.. this made it more crear :)

  • *clear, that is :p

  • Yeah! I can feel my Dutch improving already! ^_^

  • same here! It's just incredible!
