I trying to decide between Systema and Commando Krav Maga. Does anyone have experience with both and which one do they find to be the most potent in a real life combat situation? Thanks.
well systema is doing what ever that works the best in a certain situation, there are no rules. so i think taking systema and augmenting krav maga would be best.
Do both is imposible. Because the basic are different. For Krav Maga you need to be hard, all muscles are in act. But in systema you must to be relaxing. In systema you must to use only muscles, which you need in this moment. So different basic, different filozophy.
I've never trained Systema, but have a little experience with CKM and my sister/cousin were taking it for a few months. It's a decent system, but I'd recommend more for women's self-defense, because it is entirely focuses on disengaging and getting out of the situation. That's good, but in real life, you sometimes have to maim your opponent in order to survive, so I'd recommend Systema, by the looks of it. Or regular krav maga, japanese jiu-jitsu, hapkido, yoshinkan aikido, etc.
I think it will help you alot more than other styles, it teaches you to avoid, yield and slip away easily and to develop power and force without muscle. I train in many styles, bought these dvd's and I like them a lot.
From what I have seen it is perfect for females too! Agreed, Systema, Combat Sambo etc. are outstanding martial arts. Yep, the Russians are not just great chess players!
The thing to do is find a good teacher- there are many martial artists but few good teachers of martial arts.
Think of what you want to defend against, focus on learning a few techniques really well against different sized "attackers"- start slow then build up speed and aggression when you have good technique.
I know this stuff works, I train in Yi chuan which is very, very similar and it has allowed me to win more than a few real life attacks. No forms or ring techniques with this stuff. Previously I did forms training and so called MMA,but Systema or Yi chuan type training is a much higher level of applicable self defense and awareness.
I used to do ju Jitsu- there is a similarity, but i have to say, that these techniques look a little "loose and sloppy" perhaps it's safer to train that way..But in J J you keep things tight and close up to keep good control over your attacker..am I missing something?
Systema where have you been all of my life, I don't care how many people talk shit about systema on you tube, to me these moves look practical and can work in real life and i speak from experience of taking a few years of karate with all the bullshit of katas, bunkais as well the bowing, rituals and if you ever get into fight tell the sensei, for those out there who took karate you know what i am talking about as for systema just the opposite, keep up the good work.
I'm not a karate-ka but I am sorry that you found karate to be as you say. It can be very effective but the quality of instructors is highly variable. Anyway Systema is a great art, very scientific and is rooted in sound principles.
victorchin true in a real fight for some peaple they would be to hurt to fight but for others it depends on how well you can fight and how well you can take punches and kicks but most of all how well you can avoid a fight
this is called SYSTEMA

Krav Maga is used by Iraeli elites. Systema is used by Spetsnaz. Both countries are in constant combat. I would do both if possible.

Systema is for everybody. You work with power of enemy, so, doesnt matter what strenght you have. You just change the direction of enemy power.
