@Scottishindependance Though I don't entirely disagree with your comment (though I think James Taylor is a better singer), the fact that you can't spell independence just shows the endless stupidity behind the Scottish independence movement.
@KayGKing Calm down old boy, no need for such aggression. The mis-spelling was a way to get round the fact that most of the variations of that username were taken. Perhaps I should have simply changed the username entirely, but hey, we all make shotgun decisions that cause future problems. In fact, that was partly why I created a new channel - a.k.a. this one.
And may I also comment on the fact that it is a sign of ignorance to jump to conclusions about people, that you have not met, so readily
I notice that the hero here is the "Lord of Argyle" rather than Ronald McDonald. So is this the version traditionally sung in Campbell country (We know how popular McDonalds are there), or did the Corries rewrite to keep American audiences from snickering uncontrollably while visualizing the beauteous Miss Lindsay carried off to the Hielands in a hamburger shaped car driven by a clown wearing size twenty shoes and yellow overalls?
My grandfather used to sing this to my mother as a child. She died last year and listening to this brings a tear to my eye. A beautiful song, well performed.
As soon as I left Scotland and came south to England, I became a dedicated Corries fan and am just gutted I never saw them live. Still Runrig are still going, just!
well i hope you like this kind of music because the young guy, Roy was uncle and i am named after him. and i carry on his tallent, in his home town of forres
I sang in college, for most of my life. I love to sing songs like this, more so because I am of Scottish descent. My maternal grandmother was only 2nd generation in the USA. I try to wear my Drummond kilt whenever I can. lol These guys were so awesome, They are quite easy to sing with, my oldest son hates this kind of music, but even he thinks I do a good job.
This was them in their absolute hey-day. Early-mid 70s I'd guess? They were still good in the 1980s but theyd lost something by then I think. They were just great in this period though.
Old Blind Dogs are a fantastic Aberdeen based band who are carrying on the tradition of the bothy ballad but with an up to date but not out of context sound & rhythm.
does anybody know if there is somone comparable with the Corries nowadays? were they so unique? people (not only Scots) should sing such songs, for reminding that there are other things about life than only money and sex
The Corries were unique. Check out the Battlefield Band. They tour the US twice a year . Live concerts are fantastic. Ronnie Browne also has some solo You Tube videos
Thanks to Youtube for helping to keep the memories of the Corries alive. They held the audience captive from beginning to end during their live concerts. Almost 40 years later they still get rave reviews.
Beautiful
