  • i played with this drummer one night on cadburys club morton , he was fantastic one of the best drummers i ever heard he also played with THE BEATLES A FEW TIMES HE SAID HIS NAME WAS JONNY HUTCH WOW THIS GUYS A LEGEND

  • You Gotta Keep Her Underhand, still one of the best B sides from the sixties!

  • In 2000,I was heading to England with a one day stop in Liverpool.Talking to Brian Griffiths (the guy on stage left) of the Big Three before I left he mentioned going to the NEW cavern club because the original one is gone, we indeed got to it and I actually performed an Elvis song on stage. I told Brian when I got back that I performed on the same stage as he did, I heard a chuckle and then,I bet you did Elvis proud. Brian G still lives in Calgary Alberta teaching guitar in his home studio.

  • My older brother had this EP - I remember staring in wonder at Johnny Gustafsons sky blue Precision bass. This is one of the truly great rock recordings - all the energy

and atmosphere of the time captured right there on disc. Thanks for posting -

  • This is my first time hearing these recordings and I think they are great! Most of the world thinks of the Cavern only in terms of the Beatles, and there were wonderful musicians like The Big Three that many people don't even know about. It's amazing.

Just goes to show what the music business is like.

  • The Big Three, Rory Storm & The Hurricanes, Lee Curtis & The All Stars, Faron's Flamingos... These were bands which were totally underrated outside Liverpool and Hamburg.

  • Before there was an M1, my family would drive from Kent to visit relatives in Liverpool - the long hard way. Packed in an old Ford, the journey was an ordeal until the Mersey Tunnel. Going to the Cavern made up for the grueling ride. The Big Three were a great band along with The Dennisons. They played Ray Charles type toons with a steady 'chunking' rhythm to make up for the dead acoustics. That style of playing became the 'Mersey Beat' or 'Liverpool Sound' i.e 'Some Other Guy' & 'I'm With You'.

  • Not to de-cry what the beatles became ,but these were the best of all the sixties bands, their music still blows your socks off now!! and Griff is still making great music in Canada apparently, from every aspect these guys were the tops.

  • "Around the time the Beatles started recording, the Big Three were one of their biggest Liverpool rivals. Their then-novel power trio attack was anchored by drummer Johnny "Hutch" Hutchinson, who actually filled the drum set for the Beatles as an emergency replacement on a few gigs. Managed by Brian Epstein as well, the Big Three were renowned locally as a tough, R&B-inflected outfit, but were made to cover pop material more suited for Gerry & the Pacemakers on most of their singles."

  • It's great to hear the fab intro from Bob Wooler (Bob Wooler the Bob Bob Wooler) and yes indeed the Big Three were a sensational live act in the 60s at the Cavern.

  • @MySuperNan I dont know what is happening but all your comments are being flagged as spam!

  • didn,t see the big three at the cavern i remember seeing them on the orrell park ballroom in the 60,s those were the days.

  • @MySuperNan Who are these?

  • Wow !! great group and vocals. I remember this recording from the 60's - happy days !! I can feel the atmosphere in the background. Skilled musicians. No backing tracks.

  • @bmason1287 too right...one of the greatest live recordings..the big three i believe were better than the beatles in the early days at the cavern...their singles never captured the feel...but try the cavern stomp..a 'b' side

  • Still one of the best Cavern recordings,The Big Three were amazing players, thumping drums, great bass lines, and Griff's guitar, Colorama with rusty strings and good old Vox AC 30,listen to that string bending and 'one man band' big fat open chords, LOVELY !! I still play this regulary, best on their compilation C.D with all their other recorded tracks. Shame the tapes got wiped on all the other live stuff. Cheers BobDufton.
