I just watched the documentary film "The Cove" and am glad to see Japanese like the Tokyo Two are putting Japan's Whaling industry on trial. Hopefully their justice system will be reformed to better protect whistle blowers & those who expose corruption after this embarrassing case concludes & the Tokyo Two are set free.
I can never fully understand why a countries like Japan, Norway, Denmark, which are famous around the world for their excellent attitude toward the environment, is still whaling, and whaling a lot. Evidently they don't lack of food or oil at all, they just do it to keep up an out-of-date tradition and save some hundreds works that can be easily transferred to other fields.
It is interesting to know that there are Japanese who are not just blissfully ignorant or mockingly eating/hunting whales. Whale Wars and The Cove makes it seem that there are no Japanese actively fighting against this issue.
I would like to point out the clarity and preciseness with which Mr. Suzuki and Mr. Sato argued their case as well as the problems with the continuity of the prosecution.
I believe their respectable and calm manner in dealing with this public affair is a perfect example of the professionalism and reason with which many environmental activists worldwide conduct their actions with.
In response to your comment, sesljsrs, the trouble is that as time progresses and the planet deteriorates, noble methods seem less and less effective... if it came do defending your family from doom, to what methods would you be willing to resort to? That being said, I do advocate pursuing goals within the framework of the law. The courts are a good place for various issues and event to be aired.
I would suggest radical environmentalism enjoys support through the massive dissemination of fearmongering which is used often as an apology for contempt of sovereignty and domestic law.
In the process, they are jeopardising support for environmentalism and conservationism among the general public, in part by (mis)representing themselves as a (self-appointed) vanguard of the movement.
Which is one of the reasons why they're so healthy, they eat more than 100 different types of food every week, and they receive all of their necessary nutrients from these. I don't support the whale hunting, but I ask that you please don't put-down the Japanese people or their beautiful culture. :)
@kdubbanese what rubbish are you talking about? - for example they ate their own industrial poisoned fish...had mutilated babys...what healthyness are YOU talking about?
uh then why do the Japanese have the longest average lifespan in the world? which industrially poisoned fish are you talking about? and mutilated babies? Please elaborate.. and it's healthiness*. Even if you do have some minute evidence to back those accosting words up, I still think it'd very immature to denounce an entire culture because of political actions.
lol riccarda60, what do my vlogs for my friends have anything to do with whaling? you obviously have an iq less than your age, so please get off youtube.
Are you trying to suggest that Japan is a hunting and gathering society?
Because your criticisms of Japanese cuisine actually appear to suggest this.
Japanese traditional cuisine reflects a very normal and healthy interaction with the natural environment, unlike the western foods introduced in recent years which are invariably served in a box and creating litter.
Yes, but that's not making any kind of study on your part, it's just irrelevant stretching to vindicate your blatant contempt for Japanese traditions and cuisine.
if I understand correctly, there's 2 legal issues here: the theft of whalemeat by Greenpeace (?) and corruption in the 'whaling industry'... and the moral issue of whaling itself. The theft seems like a relatively small crime compared to the others (but a crime nevertheless). It's strange that the defendants don't seem to have a lawyer, and that they publicize event of a trial in progress (?).
If you read news reports, you'll see that they have a formidable defense lawyers, who are expert on human rights. This I reckon is just a video, not a legal testimony.
I wholeheartedly agree with GReenpeaces concerns about this whole episode in Japan and as long as any small thing they can do to stop illegal whaling will be in the interest of a just eco-system.
Everyone knows greenpeace doesn't like corruption that it's not part of. Fuck you again for nearly killing millions on your carbon taxation scam again. Ebay has a wide selection of nazi memorabilia if your interested
One has to ask what will the consequences be for the future of eco-activism if Greenpeace succeeds in alienating the people of Japan with their methods?
I've been following Greenpeace activities recently online, and as far as I can see their activity amounts to sponsorship of crime; attempts to claim credit for the work of others (such as Japanese resistance to Frankenfoods etc), and taking the Rainbow Warrior all the way to Oslo to congratulate warmonger Obama
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I feel so sorry for persons who mistake Greenpeace activities for the promotion of conservationism and environmental responsibility.
Theft, trespassing, "monkey wrenching", overt attempts to impugn the reputation of private companies and in this case, entire nations, are criminal activities, and should not be means to pursue the various noble goals ecological activists aspire to.
Greenpeace team good job to expose this through youtube.
In Japan, this case doesn't have much attention.
An International Court System should make pay a lot of money to those countries were this actions are taking place, specially to those whale addict families
that is not interesting... they (companies) see that as a business. Its like saying that outside EEUU we all see that invading a country for crude has nothing to do with defending freedom, we all know that... big corporations just profit and they put their interest in front of those of the entire population...

no creo que sean tan sanos ni super hombres solo son normales, no creo que tengan que comer todo lo que se mueve para sobrevivir y dejar vivir

yes, eat dogs is normal or eat live fish? I think it is something of morbidity rather than a health food

It´s the mobile money elite that has long neglegted such pityful things like nationalism.
Calling greenpeace a "crime supporting organization" is bizarre and hints to some severe mental disfunction....
