  • Thanks for sharing this!

  • just think about it, the guy in the third lane from the left, who fell, he trained hard, but instead he could've just eaten oreos and ice cream, while not training at all, for what it was worth ;p

  • 47.6 , wow that's blazin for dirt track, poor shoes, 1924, and being a honkey..

  • Yep.He ran in the outside lane..led all the way, winning in a then world record time of 47.6 seconds - it stood as the UK and European record for the distance for 12 years. He also set the British record time for 100 yards ,in 1923 (9.7 seconds) - that stood until 1934....he was also a rugby union winger for Scotland!Amazing athlete!

  • People in general consider those who dedicate their service to God (whomever you like) as dumbos or those who have no money or so.

But they themselves don't know of their vanity.

Eric is a Legend who proved it wrong and is an TRUE INSPIRATION for those who want dedicate their life for serving the Lord.

I came to this conclusion after going through the movie Chariots of Fire.

  • Some times when adrian peterson turns the corner on a defence he tilts his head to the side........LIDDELL like...........GO VIKES!

  • I was approached today in Bernard Street, Leith by a charming French family seeking the building used in C. of F. for Ian Charleson's scene reading from The Book of Isaiah. I was happy to direct them tand to recommend that they visit the Eric Liddell Centre while here, which I expect them to do. A most pleasant chance encounter that has fair made my day.

  • 0:15 Epic Fail

  • So is he running with his head back and mouth open, like in the film? I can't really see.

  • @RussellThePumpkin

Not right up like in the film at the stage we can see anyway, but at the bend his head is up.

I wonder if the running style had anything to do with the "massive brain tumour" that was found 18 years later on autopsy.

  • @timtak1 He had a tumour?!

  • @RussellThePumpkin

When he died he was found on autopsy to have a "massive brain tumour." He died in 1943, 17 years after this race but brain tumours can take a long time to grow. So there is a chance he had a small brain tumour at the time of this race.

  • @timtak1 What a champion.

  • Awesomeness!

  • Gobsmacked. What phenomenal footage of Edinburgh's finest! Love and respect to you guys up in Morningside from Leith. Thanks for the opportunity to see this.

  • This is awesome!

  • EricLiddellCentre - thanks for the heads up. Great stuff. The movie gets it pretty close even with the guy in the middle falling down... Thanks!

  • @lucecooler I know, when I first saw this old film I was surprised how close it was to Chariots of Fire.

  • Oh yes, it was. I've just seen the same race on a different video. Amazingly from lane 8, as well!

  • Was this the actual Olympics 400m final where he broke the World Record?

  • legend thx for this posting
