nice work, man, don't worry about the cost, who cares what anyone say's if you like that's all that matters. I have been tinkering with my 79 T/A since 1990, it's never done. again, AWESOME...nice set up
Funny. You do realize that even without and hp upgrades this is easily over a 100k show car. I just choose to drive it all over. The ZR1 Vett is one of my favorite off the shelf street cars, but they do not do 8second quarter miles. They do not lite the tires up on the highway when already doing 80mph. But if my car disappeared then the insurance would either go to a Vett with twin turbos added, or a 3 year old Ferrari.
it's a nice ride...but not what i would call a bargan......it's in what you can spend I guess....the average joe doesnt have 100.000 laying around.....just to go fast.....you could spent far less on a corvette...that would stomp the ol' bird in the ground.....just sayin...
I built this entire car by myself at home. Body, paint, engine assembly, all the drivetrain, interrior, electrical. The engine with all accessories and fuel injection system and dyno time was $40k. There is over $100k in parts alone in the car. I did not build a $2k rear axle to take 1100hp. I built a $8k rear axle that take 2500hp so I know it will never brake. Same with everything else. My labor is valued at over $150k. $250k car for little over $100k. I have a nice home and 4 car garage :)
Anyone need to write an EFI program for their FAST system, or wanting to improve the current program for performance, drivability or fuel economy. Contact me. I can edit existing program or write new ones and send via email. Extremly low rates.
not to give away to many secretes. But the compression is 12:1, and to blead off the cylinder pressure and make high rpm hp, it is over .700 lift and over 290deg @ .050 duration. Install position and lobe spacing stays secrete. Normall;y a cam that big would not idle below 1400rpm. The fuel injection controls idle at 900rpm.
I know have a 4l80e overdrive lockup. I am getting 25mpg on gas, 23 on E15 fuel. With the fuel injection I run 50deg timing at 1700 - 2500 rpm between 10-20% throttle for high economy. also the ejectors have the angle adjusted to open after the intake valve opens and spray in flowing air. FAST has many EFI tricks.
I get 23mpg with E15 and 25mpg with Prem Gas. The cam is big duration, but EFI allows me to adjust the injector firing angle for economy, and run a lot of timing at cruising throttle positions. I have 6X over drive, lockup converter, and 3.89 gears. Does 2100rpm at 70 mph. 3.5" exhaust hand made, with 4mufflers including 2 massive Flowmaster 60's (30"long each)
nice car man i like it no one can play with you so strong car i wish you the best i have trans am 1980 with ls2 engine and 4l60e transmisson pls have a look ( trans am alyoubi ) the car its in saudi arabia
Ive never liked this year T/A's till i saw this car. Basically if i had the $ to build a T/A of this year i wouldn't of done it any other way. EFI>* That fast program is awesome aint it? ive messed a bit with megasquirt and its 1/3rd of the cost i can imagine how awesome the FAST system is. Thanks for sharing!
truly amazing car. im an olds fan but have always had a soft spot for pontiac.pretty much sisters anyway. your car is the ultimate sleeper. if you pulled up next to me i would think very well maintained ta with a cam and not been intimidated at all. perfect. i have one question. the first time youo got on it did the results last more than four hours and did you have to see your dr?
@reap62 is a putts. I have dyno tested carbs on EFI engines. EFI always makes more power, more torque, carbs require spacers, so this car would have required a large scoop, and EFI gets double the fuel milage. Big cam engines on carb require idle over 1300rpm. EFI idle at 900 rpm and way more drivable. In the 60's, 70;s, how many cars made 500hp factory? Now new cars with smaller engines are make 500 + factory. Monsters, I am currently building a car that is 1400 hp small chevy with EFI.
@TheGazdik I use FAST XFI fuel injection usually with data logger and built in traction control for builds. It is the most advanced programing options, and easy to make changes. Controle Trans Brakes with stagiing creep, boost control, fans, water pump, fuel, etc.. 4 stage NOS features. Individual Cylinder control. Cold starts, smooth idle all the time, big power and great fuel economy programing. I get 23mpg with E15 and 25mpg on 92oct gas on the highway.
this just goes to show how far pontiac has come people may think pontiac is dead but this is living proof that we are here alive and doing better than ever the pontiac traditional v8 engine is in my opinion the greatest and most superior v8 to ever exist
TH350 in this vid that I built myself many years ago.trans stood up for 10 years to 455 with 525hp, and some 800hp NOs 10second passes. With new 535, I only raced it once with the TH350 and no issues, 4000lb car, good 60fts, and 140mph in top end. I now have TCI 6X overdrive 6speed rated 850hp+, but has issues computer and 5th gear slips. So no racing this year other then 300ft shoot outs. At those I launch in 3rd gear, and run .40 faster than anything in my class. Trans goes back next month.
This car is a 76. I prefer the 79 tail lights. It took a lot of work to drill all the factory spot welds on the tail panel, and install a 76 tail panel. Even the seam sealer was applied with same technique as the factory. It looks flawlessly factory.
definitley a bad ass motor, as far as this transam im not sure if its really a 76 or not..Its got the 76 front nose and round head lights, but the rear of the car is 79-81, still super sweet
no one take this the wrong way, it;s not meant to be offensive, but to me, there was other trans ams that look better. haha it sounds like a dick thing to say but imagine that in a 77-79. that'd be amazing
I really like how at the end you gavre a bunch of specs including mpg cuz most of these guys will say well if you can afford the car/engine.....blahblahblah....whether you can afford the gas or not its still quite interesting. Great car!
I'd probably get the front end up an inch or so, drop the rear some, and get a helluva lot more rear tire on that thing. Looks and sounds great though!
man what a sleeper!! you couldnt even tell the car is packing serious hp from the outside, except for probably the sound. lol. awesome car!
