@HierKommtMicha o cmon the soviets were just as bad as the nazis the only difference is they won der kreig. So whatever you think of the regime fine but serving the soviets in this way did nothing to help their fellow german soldiers. You think the Russians had any interest in letting these captured officers think? Or for that matter in a free germany? Paulus sang stalins tune even though he knew the russians had wiped 90% of them out. They were traitors despite the Nazis.

@HierKommtMicha What you also seem to forget is that Allies were at war with the german nation not just the nazis. Using the logic that modern germany employs when denying that people like Hans Oster were traitors. If my country is at war and I find fault with there cause as a soldier I am able to betray our plans to the enemy at the cost of many of my soldiers lives and i would not be a traitor. Wonder how the us people would have felt to their soldiers helpng the iraqis out?

@HierKommtMicha This whole idea of men like Canaris being heros rather than traitors is all really about the germans feeling guilty that the nazis were supported. Realise that support only existed through the use of mass propaganda and lies. Therefore the Allies idea of collective guilt was absurd. The germans were also victims of the nazis.

Kameraden, ich habe zur Fahne Hitlers gestanden, solange ich der Hitler-Propaganda vom Weltfeind Bolschewismus geglaubt habe. Aber als ich erkannt hatte, daß Hitlers Krieg Deutschland in die Katastrophe führt und daß die Sowjetrussen nicht anders tun und tuen wollen, als ihr Vaterland gegen den Kriegsbrandstifter Hitler zu verteidigen, habe ich mit Leidenschaft den Kampf zur Befreiung unsres Vaterlandes von Hitler und seiner tyrannischen Kriegspartei aufgenommen.
