When i was young i was definitely a HARDCORE gamer. I beat Ninja gaiden, Turtles, Mega man, Rygar, Bayou Billy, Punch out, Castlevania, Gradius and many more (not Battletoads or Ghost´n´goblins). I did that by replaying the same levels hundreds of times, dying on the same boss 50 times and having to start at the beginning of the whole game, never giving up. When you beat a game back then you had become a master of that game, today there are often endless lifes, continues and no death penalty
being a hardcore gamer means you've just learned to cuss and are using your new found vocabulary on the ps3/xbox and headset your mother just got you for christmas...of course people like this tend not to grow out of this phase and continue to claim themselves a hardcore gamer.
Casual = Playing a game here, and there...Likes playing games, though. Hardcore = Playing a game, with passion...By that, I mean, trying to get high scores, getting 100%, Collecting games, etc.
I think that the main difference between a casual game and the hard core game is that the hard core game has a bit more meat to it then say games such as Peggle or Bejeweled.
When you said "mastering the hell out of MJ", I was like, yeah, that's pretty hard core.
To me "hardcore" means you are REALLY good at this game no matter what it is. Pretty falsely assume that being good at something automatically means you spend endless amounts of time at it. While spending more time on a game does generally mean you are better at it, it doesn't guarantee it.

Okay this video pisses me off for a few reasons. The annoying "oh so this is...oh so that makes..." self explanatory moving on. And honestly being hardcore means you are dedicated to a game or genre, like instead of angry birds which takes little skill to play. You play things like shadow of the colossus or Majoras mask, which takes skill to fully enjoy the game. You have fun by challenging yourself as a gamer allowing you to feel accomplished and enjoy the games story or etc.
@HasJoinedYourParty So, learning curve? If you can jump right into it it's casual but if you have to take time to understand it and get good then it's hardcore? What about FPSs? As long as you've played at least one in your life then you should be able to jump into just about any FPS. So casual?

First off hardcore gamers have a ps 3 and or a xbox 360 ( Some might have a wii as a paper weight I know I do ). Next hardcore gamers play MOSTLY triple a titles and spend most time on playing a shooter , rpg ( or mmo rpg ) or some other triple a title. Casual gamers play ( almost exclusively ) cell phone games, puzzle games , and wii games regardless of censorship rating. The true difference between the two is passion hardcore gamers are more passionate of their past time, casual gamers aren't.
Pokemon is hardcore I leveled two complete teams of pokemons to level 99 all of that beating only wild pokemons between level 6-9 I'm more HARDCORE than ayone in the internet HURR HURR

This is how I feel I don't like casual games but I don't deprive from those who do. The only threat I see from casual games is a huge library of bad games ( something similar to the fall of games in the 80's ) but that's the fault of the producing company not the casual gamers.
@DivineFireWolf I also feel that the community needs to clean up it's act on both sides unfortunately I don't have a any ideas as of how to do this. Communication skills need to be improved on a personal level by some gamers. That's the only thing I could come up with as well as people should start to be at least civil to each other online. Wish I could be of further help though.
being a hard-core gamer doesn't depend on the game you play, it depends on how you play them. A "casual game" or "casual console" is not a game that instantly tranforms you in a casual gamer the instant you turn it on, it just means its overall design makes it suitable for casual play. But if you like it, nothing will stop you from going hard-core on a casual game.

Zelda isn't really an online type of game though, they had Phantom Hourglass and it was pretty decent online but there were too many hackers ('cus it as on DS). Zelda's always focused on single player, but it'd be cool if it had online as well I suppose.
With the Wii U, Nintendo are really trying for good online and 3rd party support, I hope they succeed.

It isn't about what games you play or what you play them on its on your attitude towards them and what you expect from games. Hardcore gamers want challenge and complexity where as casuals want simplistic spoon fed experience
@AmishRiot you are somewhat right but think about it that way: hardcore gamers want to experience games that have to be - in a way - mastered, or just take a lot of effort (maybe in time) to finish it, whereas the real casual gamer just as the name says plays games to be entertained for the actual moment, not to be ranked with others players or something. But I would still say casual gamers want a challenge, too..
There is also something in between imo, but it's really hard to explain that:D
@AmishRiot Most of the Hardcore Crowd I run into just wants to win. Challenge is secondary to dominating the game and or other players. I often enjoy playing games I know I suck at and I think it makes me a better person and gamer for doing so. Like Raiden series, Starcraft Series, at one time DDR but hey getting passable at that and really glad I gave it a fair chance.

This is how I feel I don't like casual games but I don't deprive from those who do. The only threat I see from casual games is a huge library of bad games ( something similar to the fall of games in the 80's ) but that's the fault of the producing company not the casual gamers.

@DivineFireWolf I also feel that the community needs to clean up it's act on both sides unfortunately I don't have a any ideas as of how to do this. Communication skills need to be improved on a personal level by some gamers. That's the only thing I could come up with as well as people should start to be at least civil to each other online. being a hard-core gamer doesn't depend on the game you play, it depends on how you play them. A "casual game" or "casual console" is not a game that instantly tranforms you in a casual gamer the instant you turn it on, it just means its overall design makes it suitable for casual play. But if you like it, nothing will stop you from going hard-core on a casual game.

Casual- Doesnt get that much into games, plays when they can or havent got anything else to do. Doesnt even typically think of themselves as a gamer.
Core- Enjoys playing games as a normal thing, doesnt make a huge deal out of them, but they make time for it when they feel like they want to play.
Sort of a middle ground between casual, and hardcore.
Hardcore- Loves gaming a lot, makes time often, plays for long amounts of time,
takes them seriously.

casual gamers are people who solely play video games like just dance, kinect adventures, wii fit, DDR etc. and only these games(note that these games are still fun)
hardcore gamers are anybody that play a game with a plot and and control scheme, or anything that only requires hast reaction with your hands (controllers);
games like FF1- FF whatever, SF, SSBB, LOZ, Halo, COD, ACR, SR1-3, Skyrim, etc.
but that's just my opinion

Sure, it hasn't got great third party support or great online features. But it's got the best exclusive games of this generation.
Zelda is an immersive experience with challenging puzzles, epic boss battles and great combat, but it's obviously casual because the graphics are fantasy-esue and it's made by Nintendo. And there's no guns.

Zelda isn't really an online type of game though, they had Phantom Hourglass and it was pretty decent online but there were too many hackers ('cus it as on DS). Zelda's always focused on single player, but it'd be cool if it had online as well I suppose.
With the Wii U, Nintendo are really trying for good online and 3rd party support, I hope they succeed.

@AmishRiot you are somewhat right but think about it that way: hardcore gamers want to experience games that have to be - in a way - mastered, or just take a lot of effort (maybe in time) to finish it, whereas the real casual gamer just as the name says plays games to be entertained for the actual moment, not to be ranked with others players or something. But I would still say casual gamers want a challenge, too..

@AmishRiot Most of the Hardcore Crowd I run into just wants to win. Challenge is secondary to dominating the game and or other players. I often enjoy playing games I know I suck at and I think it makes me a better person and gamer for doing so. Like Raiden series, Starcraft Series, at one time DDR but hey getting passable at that and really glad I gave it a fair chance.

Haha.. I love this video. Nice job. I always hated being criticized for playing casual games when the definition of "Hardcore" or "casual" hasnt even been properly defined.

If you enjoy playing video games that have depth and a level of complexity that challenges you than you are probably a hardcore gamer.And for people that play video games this can varie.So in my opinion any game you play can be hardcore if that is what you let it be.I've seen people play bejeweled for 10 hours a day just to beat someone elses record so in my opinion that makes them hardcore compared to someone that plays it when their bored.
