  • Thanks for sharing this dude... You'll get you reward somehow... But don't sell this back ok?

  • Shure SM57s sometimes do have a sticker. It's 58s that shouldn't.

  • @giveitupforcheerios My 58 came with a sticker, and its a real one (I checked).

  • @giveitupforcheerios sorry I thought you were talking about the big logo sticker you get with the mics, not the band on the mic itself, my mistake :P

  • when i open up my sm57 , there is a green wire and a yellow wire. only my yellow wire is connected. is this bad?

  • How is it in terms of microphone quality, in relation to a real 57?

  • All That money wasted feel sorry for you

  • It sounds like a review of a Fake shure than spotting a fake shure

  • dude you almost crying :O

  • My sure is real, but the bag isnt leather

  • Another sugestion, do not run in an ebay sale that has a stock photo... I always purchase from listings with an original amatuer photo of what they are selling. It helps further if the seller posts a video showing the product up for bids works... HOPE THIS HELPA

  • i would lol if when you open the box it said something like "you got a fake LOL" or some like that

  • @WorkingManStudios I have a question related to your measures at the end of the video. If i measure the resistance with my multimeter, I measure 13 Ohm... so I am far away from the 400 you mentioned. But I am quite sure, that I have an original shure sm57. What could be the reason for this?

  • lol.. this is the 2nd video i watched with a man ordered from ebay. and they both had fake ones

  • did you use one of the fake ones to record the video?

  • thnks dud, this really help!

  • the new sm57's do in fact have a sticker instead of a metal band. i think the easiest thing to check on your mic here is the shure logo on the sticker, if the R is raised above the other letters then it is definitely a fake. also the sticker on the new sm57's has a matte finish (non shiny) most of the fakes have a shiny sticker. thumbs so people dont get worried by there brand new 57 not having a metal band and yelling at there honest music dealer :P

  • @ILUV2SK8BO4RD The video freaked me out a little bit when it got to the sticker thing! Thanks for the comment, I would have thought mine was fake.

  • just order off authorised and dont order below rrp

  • thats messed up

  • Dude thanks for posting this video. Fkin awesome. i was almost gonna buy one off ebay. Cheers man. Thanks heaps. \m/

  • He sounds like his going to cry..Poor guy

  • Hey, man! Watching your video I realized you've got a Behringer mixer over there, similar to one I'm planning to purchase. How does it work for you? (And which model is it?) Please :)

  • If you know how to spot a fake, you probably should've took your own advice.

  • i'm thinking of buying a shure sm57 but i don't have a multimeter how can i make sure that it's a real shure even if the replica is almost exact

  • who would fake an inexpensive microphone?:p

  • @09prizefighter09: I agree

  • I am pretty sure I got some of the exact same fake 57's. Everything is identical to yours, even the resistance over the diaphragm.

The thing that really gave it away to me was when I decided to do the transformer mod to some of them (remove the transformer).... there is no transformer at all, just a bit of metal wrapped in newspaper, and the wires from the diaphragm are going straight passed it to the XLR....

    Not happy.

  • Well i know some of us musicians have to budget when it comes to buying gear, but i never buy anything second hand unless its been tested by me or a friend, i know its an $110 [ + $10 - ] mic but its kind of worth buying it for that price if you don't want to get ripped off.. and plus Ebay has always been a scammers paradise. just stick to Musiciansfriend or hell even Amazon. but thanks for the heads up, i just got a SM57 and 58. for my recording system, and they work awesome.

  • @MalteseCross. Dude try an ES-57. I hear they are exactly like SM-57s. Haven't tried one myself, but I hear good things about them.

  • Ebay doesn't suck, you are just stupid because you should see the seller's feedback, etc

  • We're just going to a short break "Sony". Welcome back.

  • that fake bag looks like what shure uses on the pg series.

  • Hey, not sure if it worked or not but I did try and send you a video response to my own shure sm57 mic.

I came across this video by mistake while looking for video reviews and now think mines is a fake. Could you help me out?

    thanks

    Dave

  • dude can you do a sound check?

  • It's always a sticker now

  • Lol u realy do sound like som1 whos got a fake shure.

  • @yotamagam and what is that supposed to mean?

  • @WorkingManStudios That u realy sound like som1 whos got a fake shure?

  • @yotamagam go fuck yourself

  • @rickyodom WTF do u want troll, GTFO.

  • Is there any way to plug it in my laptop??I need to know because i am a coverist and this is going to be really usefull using a sonar 6 home studio as well...so please if somebody knows let me know:):)

  • Thanks for posting

  • Thanks for this video man, really useful..Looking to buy a few shures...

    CHeers

  • you SHOULD order more ebay mics. you SHOULD order them, get the fake ones, AND ANNOUNCE their username!

  • if it is sold by amazon, do you think it is fake?(sold straight from amazon)

  • i love how it went SONY....

  • good video.

but I actually have one and I bought it in a "real" music store and I'm sure, that it's a real one....but i got the same (maybe fake) leather bag....

  • so can i be correct in assuming that if the microphone comes with that "fake leather bag" with the "SHURE" logo, its automatically a fake? i.e. does shure manufacturer those bags?

  • The problem is when you are not shure if it´s a shure.

  • @MarcosKtulu that was so fucking lame i laughed so hard hahahahah

  • @MarcosKtulu oooohohohohohohohoho

  • @MarcosKtulu ZING!!!

  • its not fake, it was just made in china!!!!!!, just kidding man, thanks alot for posting this, i plan on buying a shure dynamic and this will ensure i get a quality mic

  • i just bought six of these last night... off of ebay. :/ anyone know anything about the unique squared store?

  • @mattrozak cgi(dot) ebay(dot)com/Shure-SM57-SM57LC-57-Instrument-Mic-XLR-Cable-Stand-/370479317818?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564249c33a#ht_2628wt_1033

    the url

  • Wow, I just found someone selling a fake one on ebay : cgi.ebay(dot)com/Brand-New-Shure-Sm57-Microphone-/270693834319?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f069c1e4f#ht_500wt_1156

  • i bought a sm57 from ebay and it was a fake so i complained got my money back a called the seller a fat ginger!!

  • Ora la Shure ha aggiornato il packaging, cosa che fortunatamente non è successo per i fake. Quindi per il momento c'è anche questa differenza che può saltare all'occhio.

  • My SM57 has a sticker as well and it is a "refurbished" SM57 bought from ProAudio Star.com. So if you buy an SM57 from these guys ask before hand if it is a brand new mic or refurbished. Because I payed for a brand new one and they shipped "B" stock valued at $25 less than what I payed for. Nowhere in the order or website did it state that it was B stock. Only on the invoice after I recieved it from Fedex. A bit disappointing.

  • is the Maclight real??

  • haha when u said "and its not leather..." you sounded so depressed. why the fuck do they make this fake shit anyway.

  • I own 5 57's, all purchased from different local stores as new. each one of them have the sticker around the top.. just throwing that out there.

  • ZzzzzZZzzzzz.....

  • But how does this fake one sound?

  • 4 chinese counterfeit mic sellers disliked this. i spent 70 bucks on my fake 57! T_T

  • @2pac4lyf91 You can get em for $20 from China. In small orders too. Most of the fakes wont have transformers and they sound more like a karaoke mic.

  • I've gotten 5 fake SM-57s from Ebay now. That's 100%. I'm done with Ebay, it's Guitar Center from now on.

  • I definitely have two Ebay fakes identical to the fake in this video, but interestingly my Brand new SM 57 from Guitar Center only reads 17 Ohms between pins 2 and 3 with my multimeter, the fakes read about 587ish. What the heck is up with that?

  • Mine has most signs of genuine shure, but has the sticker at the top, the lettering is not raised though on the R. The wires are Blue and yellow not green and yellow and has the EB on the pcb. the grill is slightly dull in colour. the case is exactly like the one in this video. Although i have 2 holes at the bottom, all the xlr connections are numbered aswell as the shure lettering on it.

  • cheers for sharing this info dude

  • When i measure my resistance its at 17.3o why is this? what am i doing wrong? Thanks

  • @kedge0803 Hey man, so does my brand new one from Guitar Center. Actually I have 3 brand new ones out of a Shure drum mic kit and I know they are legit, I'm not gonna sweat it. I also have 2 Ebay fakes that definitely read close to 600 Ohms, and they sound much more harsh and tinny than the GC ones. I think the sound is a dead giveaway, and if your reads 17 Ohms and sounds good, I'm sure it's legit.

Holler back with comments / questions.

  • Nice little SONY advert there.. hehe

    Great vid mate...

  • I WOULD BE AFRAID TO HOOK THAT ELECTRO METER RIGHT UP TO THAT FAKE SHURFER MIC - FAKE MICROPHONES HAVE A ZUBLALEAKANEEB TRANSFORMER THAT IS RADIOACTIVE AND COULD IN RARE CASE CAUSE A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION. USE CARE WHEN HANDLING FAKE MICROPHONES AND FOR GOD'S SAKE DO NOT SING THROUGH ONE! sOME FAKE MICROPHONES HAVE A CAMERA AND ARE USED BY SPIES TO FILM YOUR VOCAL CHORDS. THANKS FOR ALERTING THESE POOR SOULS ABOUT FAKE MICROPHONES, THE LIFE YOU SAVED MAY HAVE BEEN NONE.

  • Why did 4 people dislike this video?

  • @DuctTapeDefender cus they are the manufacturer of the fake ones!

  • @andreasprenen hahaha fair enough.

  • @DuctTapeDefender

Because they're the ones that make bogus mics?

  • thanks a bunch i was going to use ebay.

  • Damn, I wish I had seen this vids before. Now I'm stuck with a fake and the seler wont respond to any of my messages.

  • I recently ordered a SM57 from amazon, it arrived without a serial number. They took it back and supplied a new one.

  • my shure sm57 has a sticker, not a metal band. considering i bought it from guitar center brand new and it has a serial number.. i don't think that's the sign of a fake

  • @cruz1390: no some have stickers, some dont. As I recall, guitar center had a problem with a batch of fakes a few years back.

  • @WorkingManStudios well i have a question maby you did not cover, are legit shure mics manugactured in mexico?

  • @Timobrien01 I want to know this too.

  • @cruz1390 Same here... bought at guitar center as well... has a sticker. Does not have the three holes in the back, the letters look ok and it does have a serial number and the warranty has a big shure logo on it. Havent done the resistance test tough. Also box was black, not yellow or cream. I was able to register it but i dont know if they validate SN's

  • dude same exact thing happened to me..........im tryin to get my refund!

  • @tazrevo: Did you report the seller?

  • @WorkingManStudios He closed his account after we paid for it. Were trying to work things out with PayPal.

  • @tazrevo hope everything worked out

  • @WorkingManStudios yep, I wound up tracking him down through paypal and getting my refund.

  • but it says "PH" on my pc card... with red capital letters top left of the card. is mine a fake?

  • @simulator94 If the box looks like the one in the video its a fake.

  • @tazrevo but it looks like the original. not yellow or copied or so...

  • @tazrevo very true

  • @simulator94 Prob not, i have a couple of fakes...they didn't say anything on the pc card...the real ones had 2 red letters.

another thing to check when you unscrew the cartridge, shure uses rounded edges...most fakes use flush edges.

  • @simulator94 im sorry im not sure. contact shure and they will tell you

  • good video...have you tried it at all - and if so, how does it sound ?

  • @guitar1ify: It sounded very thin and tinny. not very good at all

  • @WorkingManStudios Well I'd rather trust my own ears than someone else's. Nothing against you and your assumptions, I just would rather hear the difference myself to know if even buying a fake would be worth the money. Could you please post a sound comparison test?

  • @guitar1ify barely any sound came from it and it was all tiny and harsh

  • i just got a shure mic off ebay and i even messaged the guy saying iv got a national dip in electronics (which i have) and he assured me it was real and its a fake. it looked exactly like yours with a sticker. when i unscrewed it it even looked like it had a transformer but i measured the resistance nd it measured 560ohms so i took the glue out and it was just a ferrite core the wires went straight to the xlr connector! what kind of dick rips someone off after being ripped off im not reseling it

  • @tim0090: Did you report the seller?

  • @WorkingManStudios

no its easy if i say i never received it! get my moneys back and then i can swap it at a shop that sold me a fucked second hand guitar for the new price!!! two birds one stone!!! heres the dick heads ebay account name: vestro_com_au

why are some people suck dick heads???

  • Mine is real. Yay!

  • god people are sick, theyll fake anything to make a quick buck. just sick

  • Talked to a Shure tech and they told me that buying a Shure product from a non-authorized dealer was a guaranteed way to get a counterfeit. Anyone wanting to buy a genuine Shure should go to their website and check out the nearest authorized dealer. I also asked them how to spot the fakes and they said they couldn't tell people because it would only serve to make even harder-to-spot fakes in the future. When buying from ebay, ask seller if they can guarantee it to be genuine.

  • @ChuddleBuggy

i did this and the person said they got it from a genuine seller but he lied!!!

  • @tim0090: Burn him

  • Thanks for the heads-up! I was about to get ripped off. I was looking at some of these on eBay, then I found this video by chance.

  • @geneftw: Glad i could help someone else out :)

  • do they sound good???

  • @Bluestouse86 no fakes sound crappy

  • Thanks I'll get a new one instead of getting one off of ebay.

  • You need to report the seller to ebay.

  • @mikeygeneral already been done

  • What about the multimeter test? My SM57 has a white box instead of the yellow of yours and two holes instead of three. The rest is pretty much the same.

Is the multimeter test a safe way to prove mine is fake?

There's no information about it on the Shure website, product manual or anywhere else than "Fake Shure SM57" articles on the web.

  • @777GuitarShred the multimeter test is a reliable test. you can contact shure for specific details

  • NOTE: I would just like to point out that I purchased a legit SM57 (I bought it from a respectable company. It weighed the correct amount, had the correct wiring, and came with a full warranty that I have registered. It also didn't sound like crap) and the grill was a dark grey and the logo was a sticker. These points are still things to look out for but it's worth knowing that on real 57s, at least these things can be exactly the same as the fakes (I have also purchased a fake so I know!!)

  • @WeakGuy What did the case look like?

  • @bluemeanieee Well the case looked very different to the one in this video. The image on my case is the SM57 lying flat on its side in the centre of the image on a black background (looks like an amplifier or something). And very top left it says "Shure" and very bottom left it says "SM57" So like I said, very different to the one in this video so I assume the design has changed sometime.

  • @WeakGuy you should make a video. not many people have experiences with fakes

  • Out of curiosity - how do these fake microphones sound compared to the real thing?

  • I'm about to purchase that mic, so it's good to know all this. Thanks!

  • Does the SM57not cost about 100 dollars?

Also, does the old SM57 sound the same as the new current made Sm57 one models?

  • @Tombking2 all new sm57s cost $100 and generally sound the same

  • how much to the fake ones cost

  • @freestylefilmsinc: anywhere up to $100.

  • how much are they

  • @freestylefilmsinc: the fakes?

  • good video. I had suspicions that my 57 was a fake, and so decided to melt down the glue in hope of finding the transformer. Instead, I found a crumpled up piece of paper...with chinese writing all over it. Talk about rubbing salt in wounds!

  • @eddblake: sorry to hear that. Maybe you could post a video or send me some photos?

  • boring hell..

  • @mattberry99: Thats fine but then dont watch it.

  • the bands with white lettering on real sm57s ARE stickers

  • @gilislegend: Yea i know. I corrected that in my newest SM57 video.

  • Hi, I was just wondering whether the grille feels relatively flimsy when you turn it? I might be one of those ebay victims, but it seems pretty different from the fake one that you're showing. Thanks!

  • @RoyalDecapitation: Watch my latest video to best answer your question. Mine seems a tad flimsy.

  • Why didn't you check all the many info sites before buying (on the inviting price), and why did you not immediately go for a paypal refund through eBay ?

    3 x mics purchase ?

    DOH !!

  • @maccafan10 I did go for a refund on paypal

  • How can I send you some photos? Should I get your email address?

  • @iankyoko: You can send it to workingmanstudios@gmail.com Ill look at them and give you as much help as i can.

  • The logo around the neck on a Shure SM58 that I got off ebay is just grey, not bright white. That probably points to it being a fake. Can anyone confirm that?

  • @iankyoko: Possibly, if you send me some photos i could be of more assistance.

  • @WorkingManStudios How can I send you some photos? Should I get your email address?

  • @iankyoko

The guy in the vid just did confirm it at his great cost.

I google details and reviews on everything I want before I buy it.

I have no sympathy for gullible people like you who think that they are the only one who has seen the cheap eBay bargain. LOL.

Ask seller questions (and then get a paypal refund if it is naff on arrival) !!

You have 40+ days to act.

  • @maccafan10 I have related it all to ebay and Paypal and Paypal has refunded me.

I never knew about this counterfeiting ring with Shure SM58. I didn't look up reviews and details on the Shure SM58 because I already knew that it was a great microphone.

  • @iankyoko

Yeah great, we all have to learn some time, but you didn't 'already know' that it was a fake though did you ?. Thats the point I made, that it is really controlled by our greed and safety net advice on 58's, and also the hurry to grab what we think is a bargain when wiser millions see the same ebay listing. Hence your mic wasn't 'so great', was it ?

Do some homework, I just got 4 x Red5 RVD30 mics for £99. Same (poss better) as 57's and 58's and not cheap made because of the price.

  • Sorry to the persons comment that i removed. I hit the wrong button :/

  • @kennykensworth: Yea this mic is perfect. I have seen it paired with the X2U and i highly recommend it if you can afford that.

  • Why would some one copy that mic? Its like a 100 dollar mic....

  • @teamhex: Currently its one of the most popular mics in the world. Counterfeiters can reproduce it for less then $10 and sell it for anywhere from $60-$100. Thats a $40 to $90 dollar profit in some cases. I heard recently that the FBI confiscated thousands of fakes in China that were dead on copies of the originals. eBay is also flooded with the fakes and it is very hard to get real shure mics on there. This will be a huge problem in the future.

  • @WorkingManStudios I'm going to guitar center in about an hour. If they have it I plan on getting that mic and a PC interface. Any recommendations on that?

  • @teamhex: Yea this mic is perfect. I have seen it paired with the X2U and i highly recommend it if you can afford that.

  • @WorkingManStudios I was looking at that bundle they had and I figure if the X2U is half as good as the mic then it should work great. My next thing would be software, im tech savy, but im not good with learning complicated programs. What software would you recommend for recording.

  • @teamhex: If you have a mac then use garage band. Its my favorite program. Try cubase or audacity.

  • @kennykensworth: I've tried it and loved it! Its just they are so expensive. If you want to here it listen to metallica or michael jackson, they are known for using one on their albums.

  • how does it sound?

  • @kennykensworth: They would not produce any sound at all. I tried them with different cables and such but nothing would get a these to produce a signal.

  • @WorkingManStudios man, that sucks, that really sucks! sorry man!

  • @kennykensworth shit happens haha

  • Eh there are some things that are "false" in this. The bag for example are often in real Shures the same as that fake one was. And that grill is same also. Otherwise.. FAKE

  • @Jasi1911 I agree. i should do an update video with this

  • Mine has a sticker instead of the metal band and the bag is fake leather made in china. Does this mean its fake?

  • @xMETALLICAROCKERx: Not definitely. Where did you buy it from?

  • Mine has 'GL' printed on the PC board instead of 'BE'?

It only has two a screw on the external

Fake? Would really appreciate the help

  • @playlondon: I could not find any info on the GL mark. You could contact Shure and find out through them. It is not enough info to declare it fake.

  • Mine has 'GL' printed on the PC board instead of BE?

It only has two a screw on the external

Fake? Would really appreciate the help
